The Shack was a book that stayed with me for a long time afterward. There is a new book out from the same author and I would love to read that one. Enjoy it.

Hi Smitha. This is a book I've wanted to read for a while now. It's been on my TBR list for I don't know how long. I'll be interested to know what your thoughts are about it.

message 9: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) sure, will keep you posted.

message 10: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments I LOVED Stiff. I think I've gifted it to more people than any other book. All my friends have loved it.

...wow, I have friends with bizarre taste in book topics.

:)

message 19: by Alison (new)

Alison G. (agriff22) | 1190 comments I talked to Kelsi and we decided to read The Picture of Dorian Gray. Im into classics this year, so I'm excited to knock another one off the list!

message 20: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Soph and I will be reading If on a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino. Neither of us have had particularly good luck with postmodernism, but we both had this book on our TBRs, so we're going to give it another shot.

I saw the movie of this book years ago. I enjoyed it's unique spin on the main issue (I won't tell you what it is as I don't want to spoil it for you). I do have the book on my shelf but I've never opened it.

message 22: by Anna (new)

Anna Samantha and I will be reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

message 23: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments Sarah and I are going to read The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss . I hope it is good. It is a big one! It has really good reviews for it, so I am looking forward to it.

message 24: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 177 comments Karin and I will be reading The Chaperone.

From the looks of everyone's choices so far there are some GOOD books that will be read in August.

I LOVED Gone Girl and I really enjoyed The House at Riverton. Lots of fun books being read! Fun!!!

message 25: by Colby (new)

Colby Dahlia | 54 comments Is it too late to sign up for August?

message 26: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Colby, I'm sorry, but it is. All the pairs have been set. If someone else who hasn't signed up yet would like to join you, you can join that way; alternatively, the September sign-ups will be up by the end of the week, and you can definitely sign up for that! :)

message 27: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 177 comments I'll sign up to have a second TBR twin with Colby if that will work. It looks like we have some good TBR books in common.

message 28: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments That would be perfect, Jessica. Thank you!

message 29: by Tiffany-Rae (new)

Tiffany-Rae Lowe (thetiff10) | 87 comments Tammy and I decided to read Smitten. I have already finished and can not wait to discuss!

I've been wanting to read this. looking forward to hearing what you both think of it!

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments I'm such a slacker, and I JUST started my TBR Twin book tonight.

How's everyone else doing with their books?

message 32: by Londa (new)

Londa (londalocs) | 117 comments Sara and I had a great discussion of Gone Girl!

message 33: by Alison (new)

Alison G. (agriff22) | 1190 comments I finished The Picture of Dorian Gray and am waiting for Kelsi to finish it. She starts back to college this week or next week, so I don't know how much time she will have to read and discuss it. I really liked it though. I was amazed at how a picture can really change someone's life.

message 34: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Jodi and I had a good discussion on The Name of the Wind and we both really enjoyed it.

I did enjoy the book Talia. There were parts that frustrated me and characters I would like to smack in the head but I think I was supposed to feel that way.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Jodi! Hopefully I'll be reading this book next month.

message 37: by Sara (new)

Sara (shesautomatic) | 112 comments I keep getting Name of the Wind confused with Shadow of the Wind... two totally different books.

I got a kick out of reading Gone Girl this month with Londa. It was fun to guess who the bad guy was and it was a perfect doesn't-make-me-think-too-hard kind of book for summer. The first person writing of Gillian Flynn was really easy to read even if the storyline wasn't any great literature.

message 38: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) Karina has already finished Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers and am halfway through. Its interesting and I'll be speeding up my pace so that I can discuss it with her before I start my September challenge.

message 39: by Anna (new)

Anna Samantha and I read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I finished it a few days ago and I was just in love with it. It took me maybe the length of Part I to get into it and really embrace Death's perspective but once I did...wow! Haven't heard from Samantha yet but it's only been a day or two since I messaged her...she may still be reeling from my gush of random thoughts...lol!
