Hi everyone,

Considering reading the tome that is the red knight by miles cameron

penny for your thoughts....is it worth my time reading this monster?? Does it have promise as a series or what?

I, too, am interested in what people think of this book. I keep seeing reviews that suggest it's top-notch, however it's quite expensive so I'm not really eager to make that kind of investment on anything that isn't spectacular right now.

It is really very well written, I definitely liked it and am really looking forward to the next one. Cameron's prose was wonderful to read, but be prepared to put a bit of a time investment to get acquainted with everyone and the world. The cast in this thing is huge, the POVs switch often and so it took me longer to sort out who they all were than any other epic fantasy I have read. So, yeah, I recommend it, but with the caveat that you don't mind spending more time adjusting and learning than a typical book. It does all come together, the action picks up considerably at the end and I am hoping for the next book, that I will get even more payback from the time I put into the first book. It feels like I will, but wont know until it comes out and I have a chance to read it. :)

Thanks for reminding me about this book - just added it to my shelf - it's been on my radar for a while now but somehow just didn't get on there.

The vast amount of POV-characters can be irritating as many of them does not go anywhere and are just there for one or two chapters.
But other than that it is definitely a worthwhile read, the battle scenes are generally spectacular and the amount of detail and knowledge that goes into them are really nice. I had to google quite a few armor-related words just to get what the hell the author was talking about.

Yes, I read your reply. Thanks for taking the time to respond. I enjoy the writing but the unexplained oddities (like bears that can wield daggers) was throwing me for a loop and I wasn't sure if it was worth continuing.
