Dan (TheGreatBeast) Although I am more of a horror and fantasy fan, I have recently created a goodreads group devoted to the evolution of sci fi. We will go through each decade starting with Jules Verne until we arrive at the present. For me it will be a learning process. If you feel like checking us out here's the link:

Are you going to read the books as a group and compare and such?

Dan (TheGreatBeast) Yeah that`s exactly what the goal is. Do a group read a month, starting at the beginning (which I though was Verne, but have been informed was actually Mary Shelley) and then every month moving a head a decade or so and vote on a new book.

Thanks for signing up, and showing interest!

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Mary Shelley? I believe Thomas More's 'Utopia' (1516) pre-dates 'Prometheus Unbound' (1818) as one of the earliest SF works. Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels" (1726) also predates Shelley. As does Rabelais' "Gargantua and Pantagruel" (1532). However, once in the Victorian era, you should be okay. Except I would also hope you do not overlook Samuel Butler's "Erewhon" and "Erewhon Revisited". Good luck!
