There kinda is a bit of romance... Todd and Viola become extremely close and they'd do anything for each other, but there's no kissing or anything. Although I think he'd like to :P

The main characters are kind of young and probably not as infatuated with love as some other book characters so their relationship is just a sweet kind of affection for each other
