Love Inspired Historicals discussion

I'm of the four or five star group, because unless I just really, really hate something and want to warn others about it, I won't do a bad review, I'll only tell people about the books I loved. Since I also know the people who wrote the book often will read reviews, and it's a small world here, I don't consider myself a professional reviewer, and don't want to hurt a fellow author. If asked to endorse something I don't particularly like, I'll either do a book-report type endorsement without a lot of high praise, or I'll gently decline. As Melody said, I can't afford to be negative. There's too much negativity these days, anyway.

I get annoyed when someone says an inspirational which clearly states its an inspirational book gets bashed for being Inspirational! or they say If I knew this was a christian book I would not have bought it. Most say they are christian fiction or inspirational etc.

I agree with both Hannah and Jenny! I only give a lower rating if a book takes me by surprise...perhaps was misrepresented! Says it was one thing but was really another! I read a book recently (not an inspirational) that had so much bad language on every page, I couldn't believe it! I couldn't even tell what the story was about! I HAD to give that book a low rating! There was no need for that!

Jenny, I totally agree with you too. I se a lot of reviews that say what you wrote. I get aggravated by people who write them!

I did write a review alerting aussies to the language in one book. it was fine in the states but here it was cussing and overdone and I felt I had to let aussies know about the book. Said how disappointed I was cos I thought it would be a really good book without this particular word.

I know, I read a couple reviews from someone giving Christian books a bad rating because they were not religious. I don't think that's fair to any author.

I have to admit I seldom read anything but Christian fiction, so I don't have much to complain about as far as language. I do read Koontz, but since I learn so much from him, I never have anything to complain about--the man writes from his Catholic faith, even quotes scripture, and he gets death threats from readers because of it. Freaky.

I review books too and do endorsements. I usually give 4 stars and save 5 stars for a book I will keep and read again.

I have given 3 stars, but I don't give 1 or 2 star reviews--I just think those books were not books meant for me.

I think all the comments here are heartening as Hannah said. This group is a 5 STAR GROUP!
