Happy August!
Starting this week with an oldie- You Belong To Me by Johanna Lindsey

message 2: by Phoenix77 (new)

Phoenix77 | 346 comments I started A Rake's Midnight Kiss by Anna Campbell. I wasn't as taken by book one of the series, but this one has been enjoyable so far.

Okie, I like Lindsay's more recent work but hated her older stuff, the "hero's" were horrible and I can do without rape and women beating in my books.

Theresa Romain | 420 comments Phoenix, I'm looking forward to ARMK. Let me know how you like it once you're done! Anna has said it's got her lightest hero yet.

I just started reading Laura Florand's The Chocolate Touch and Manda's Why Dukes Say I Do. Both are excellent. I wish I could take a reading day.

I recently finished Karen White's The Time Between, which is beautiful and moving and evocative, Jude Deveraux's True Love, which is doubly fascinating because of its connections with other of her books, and JoAnn Ross's Castaway Cove: A Shelter Bay Novel, which is sweet and heart warming. The hero in that one is a wounded vet, a deejay with AFN, which I though was really different. Next up are The Passion of the Purple Plumeria by Lauren Willig and Seduction In Silk by Jo Beverley.

Marnie, I'm a huge fan of JL's older books! I'm not too thrilled with anything she's put out lately. I've read worse than Lindsay's "rape and women beating" from other authors.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Not sure I want to know who those other authors are. There are so many publishers now that won't accept books with rape scenes or humiliation and subjugation of women...thank goodness. I like my heroines to be fiesty and strong and to be a match for the man. If the so called hero has to resort to rape or to beat the woman into submission then he is definitely not a hero in my view. But everyone to their own tastes.

Exactly, Marnie, that's what I love about reading- we can pick and choose what we like to read.

Kasey, I've only read Sisters Red in the Fairytale Retellings series by Jackson Pearce. How did you find book 2 and 3?

Okie, I just read Book 2 not long ago and I liked it. I thought it was a little better than book 1. I'm not very far into book 3 yet, but it is an interesting idea, although it seems to be dragging a little bit too.

Let me know what you think of Book 2 when you are done. I read it because I got book 3 super cheap on my kindle and decided I would catch up on that series.
