Nathalia Have any of you seen the Lizzie Bennet Diaries on Youtube?
It's a very modern adaptation of the story and filmed in the style of a Vlog (Video Blog, I guess), with the characters telling the story.
The sisters are reduced to three (or not, because there are some funny twists with Mary and Kitty) and some characters were left out. But it made me laugh and be sad in all the right places. The plot was transferred really well into the world of todays college graduates. And I am an Jane-Austen-purist, but I felt this was done in such a way, that they cater to the likes of me, who know the book inside out.

Nadia Oh, I loved it, they did it pretty well, I loved the actors, the adaptation manner, even if there were some awkward things it still was great.

Leeann Johnson I have watched about half of the "episodes" and really enjoy them. Of course I skipped ahead to watch the infamous Ep 98, but I do plan and going back and watching the others. I'm always up for a modern interpretation of any Jane Austen book. :)

Annemarie Donahue NO, I've never even heard of this! But the reviews left here have definitely encouraged me to go and look. Can these be found on youtube, or is this a netflix show?

Kressel Housman You Tube. They also have their own webpage. Do a search on "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries."

Jessica I watched about half the episodes in one sitting and the rest in another. It's fanstasic and extremely addictive!

Kate Diffley No I have not will check it out

Annemarie Donahue I looked them up after posting yesterday and watched them all in one sitting! AWESOME! Thank you for posting!

Kathy Just starting watching these after I heard about it on Goodreads. They are really good. A nice take on the novel.

wildflower IT IS AMAZING. I cried. I got really involved. It's perfect.

Tavita Yeah I did, and it was very interesting :) I have to admit all I wanted was to see Darcy, but I really liked the series. I was annoyed a little bit by Lidia, but again I didn't like her character in the book also, so it was ok, and I didn't care so much. I liked how they showed part of Jane Austen stories and characters in 21st century. :)

grapeseeds I watched all the episodes back to back in one day...no regretsss

Nadine I loved it! And they are doing an adaptation of Emma next. Emma approved. Can't wait.

Nathalia I am glad you all liked it as much as I did.
I didn't know about them doing Emma. I am excited already! and this time I can watch it as a series, week by week, I don't know if that is better or worse.

Funny, I thought their Lydia was the BEST!

Nadine It hasn't started yet, but there is already a twitter account and a youtube channel for Emma (@EmmaApproved), and she is followed by a certain @AlexKnightleyEA... :-)

N.E. Wilson I DID!!!!! There's a podcast out about it: http://adaptationpodcast.com/2013/05/...

I kinda nerded out when I found this, they were having a kickstarter for printing the series on to DVD and they also did an edition of P&P with art work designed after the webseries characters. SO GOOD.

Kressel Housman The Lizzie Bennet Diaries won an Emmy: http://tv.yahoo.com/blogs/emmys/-top-...

Rhonda Louise I got fixated on it to start with. It was intriguing to watch how the novel translated into a video blog - really clever.
But it was a bit long and I was over it by the end. There wasn't a great deal of chemistry between Darcy and Lizzie.

Watching them flirt on the last webcast was a little painful. It's like Lizzie got all gushy-mushy and lots her edge. I actually cringed and turned away at one point. But the series over all was spot on!

Rachelle Yes, I adore LBD! So glad they won an emmy for the series :). The confrontation was a bit disappointing, especially since that was my favorite part of the book, but overall I really enjoyed it.

Tiadeets I absolutely loved it. The Lydia, the Maria and the Gigi spin-offs were really good as well! 4 episodes a week for many months, I miss it.
I really look forward to Emma Approved.

They've done an adaptation on Sanditon (Welcome to Sanditon) this summer but it was nor that good. It was more something of a test I think (for Emma Approved, etc. maybe).

Katie Yes the Lizzie Bennet Diaries was so good!! I love it!

Nabila It was totally awesome. I so looooved it :)

Victoria Cute...but the Mr. Darcy is no Collin Firth :/
Disappointed...and she whined more than Elizabeth Bennet...but cute..

Yes! Super cute. Super addictive. I wanted to see more of Georgiana Darcy. Her character has always intrigued me.

Melissa Farnsworth How Fun. I'd never heard of them, but am hooked after the first three, will watch them all. Too clever. Can't wait for Emma.

Emma I thought it was a good idea and a good take on the novel. It was much better than other modern retellings I've seen. Being a bit of a purist, I didn't like all the portrayals and thought it was a bit amateurish. I thought their Lizzie was nothing like Elizabeth. She was a bit shallow, selfish, and complained about everything. She was very funny and entertaining though. I actually hated Darcy and was really disappointed in him (why did they make him a hipster? why?!). I agree that they didn't have much chemistry and watching them together was a bit awkward. I also thought Wickham was very annoying and couldn't understand why Lizzie would like him. But even though parts of it annoyed me I felt an odd compulsion to keep watching. I loved Jane, Bing Lee, and Charlotte.

Kate Diffley Sorry I have never heard of them.

Sandra I loved the LB Dairies! Thought the cast was refreshing and just really in this time of age. The missing characters like Mrs Bennett were geniously adapted by roleplaying - that was great. And every one was really involved and did conventions and stuff.

I've watched a view of the eps of Welcome to Sanditon, but it just didn't have the same epicness as LBD.

Didn't know about the adaptation for Emma. But am now looking forward to seeing it and it's all new cast! (At least I hope they bring on a new cast)

Ree I enjoyed LBD very much! The costume theater was incredibly entertaining. The writers translated the story very well to the modern days. Now I'm super-stoked about Emma Approved, especially since it's my favourite Jane Austen Novel, and I keep checking the YouTube account hourly (haha, I'm addicted before it even started).

I agee :) with everything :)

message 33: by Jada (new) - added it

Jada I enjoyed the Lizzie Bennet diaries but was less interested in the side projects they created (like Lydia Bennet's video diary) but also agree with Emma's comments about how they made Lizzie shallow and turned Darcy into a hipster. Still, it was a very clever update. Lizzie playing her mother as a southern belle was precious!

Lauren Yes, I have! I thought it was a great modern retelling.

Molly The LBD are a very good, clever adaption of the book. Almost all the key points are there, and the creator is a big fan of the book, which I thought was important. Definite watch for after you've read the book and seen the movie!
