@ Antipodes - Wow!!! What an amazing experience (I mean the concert rather than the close encounter with the State Trooper) - I can't think of any artists around today that it would be worth travelling that far to see.
@ Angela - Both!!!!

message 752: by [deleted user] (new)

That's great Ellie - so what's he like - James Stewart or Cary Grant?

message 753: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) He looks a bit line Oz Clarke! With maybe a James Stewart temperament :)

message 754: by [deleted user] (new)

That sounds like a good combination. :0)

Glad it went well Ellie but who's Oz Clarke???? I like Jimmy Stewart though - Harvey is one of my fave films ;)

message 756: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) He's a wine expert, been on a few TV shows

I know who you mean know, he is sometimes on Saturday Kitchen isn't he? Glad you had a nice time!

message 758: by Angela (new)

Angela | 738 comments I'm so glad Ellie! :-) any plans for date #2? Hob nobs are good for you - wheat for digestion and chocolate for antioxidants!!! ;-)

message 759: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) Don't often watch Saturday kitchen, I'm afraid. I know of him from a show he did with James May from Top Gear, he was trying to teach beer-drinking May how to appreciate wine!

message 760: by Tracey (new)

Tracey | 304 comments Laurel - glad you like Nickel Creek.

Ellie - pleased to hear your date went well.

I've just got back from a lovely evening meal with some old friends I haven't seen for over a year. Had a lovely time and was excited to hear that they had tickets at Wembley for the cup final on Sunday!

message 761: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) Next Friday lunchtime, Angela, because we couldn't find an evening next week when we were both free! And then Tuesday week in the evening :)

Thanks for the nutritional hobnob advice :)

Hilary | 2082 comments @Ellie going great guns Ellie, so glad he's nice and why wouldn't he think you're wonderful ... You are!

@Antipodes that sounds very exciting although I have to say I'm not a Led zeppelin fan, the journey sounds worth doing on its own.

@ Tracey saw loads of people with banners waiting to be picked up by coaches this morning when I walked the dog. I hope they do well.

message 763: by [deleted user] (new)

Sunshine at last! Out on the tandem today - hooray!

message 764: by Howard (new)

Howard (antipodes) | 210 comments Just got my copies of The Guide and Alias Grace - yay!!. I can feel my literary horizons expanding already. Really, I am grateful to all for the many excellent referrals to outstanding works I otherwise never would have chanced upon.

message 765: by [deleted user] (new)

It's certainly good for that - very bad for the to read list though! Hope you enjoy Alias Grace as much as I did :0)

I'm always good for reassuring nutritional advice ;) Maybe you could dunk bikkies with your new friend!

Best of luck though, seriously.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend! In opposition to your Friday off, I get to work Sunday. I am sipping my latte and thanking the goddess that goodreads is here to keep me company :)

@Antipodes - Let me know how you go with Alias Grace. Looks great!

@ Angela - feeling your pain, I've just done a 12 hour shift (Saturdays are NEVER a day off) and am back in tomorrow lol!
@Antipodes - I am sooooo jealous you got to see Zepplin! That trip sounds amazing!!!

message 768: by [deleted user] (new)

@ Laurel - 12 hour shifts are not right - down with them.
@ Angela - poor you - here's something to make the day go faster. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x31e...

Angela | 738 comments @ Laurel - I hope you are at home relaxing now after that epic slog!
@ Lee - at the risk of sounding creepy, you are the best :P

message 770: by [deleted user] (new)

Ahhh - thanks Angela - I would say so are you - if my hands weren't shaking too badly to type after the shock of that monsterous worm! :0) xxx

message 771: by Angela (new)

Angela | 738 comments Hahaha I hope that doesn't give you bad dreams! x

message 772: by Howard (new)

Howard (antipodes) | 210 comments @ Laurel - If you are jealous of my seeing Zeppelin then I better not tell you about my 200 mile trip in a van full of hippies to see Pink Floyd at the University of Wisconsin at Madison on their Dark Side of the Moon tour... yep, best not do that...being the absolute best concert of my life and all...nope, better keep that one to myself...but I just can't help it, it was that good. Back in the day...off the charts.

message 773: by [deleted user] (new)

Blimey! You weren't at Woodstock in the front row watching Jimi Hendrix by any chance were you?

message 774: by Laurel (new)

Laurel | 1486 comments Mod
No Antipodes, don't tell me about that - love Pink Floyd too but unfortunately born a bit too late to see all these bands :( Would've loved to see Hendrix as well - I've actually just ordered myself a t-shirt from Amazon with him on it which should turn up tomorrow yay!

message 775: by Angela (new)

Angela | 738 comments This all sounds so cool! Antipodes you should write a book!

By the way @Lee - did you watch Kenny? Please tell me you didn't hate it?!

message 776: by Howard (new)

Howard (antipodes) | 210 comments @Lee - No, a bit too young for Woodstock, was 18 or 19 for both the Pink and Zeppelin concerts. Was lucky to have been able to see them. Fond memories. What was anyone else doing when at that age?

message 777: by Angela (new)

Angela | 738 comments @ Antipodes - at 18 I was working at KFC. At 19 I started uni... and still worked at KFC. Yuck.

You are far cooler than me.. the first concert I went to at about 16 was Ronan Keating haha!

message 778: by [deleted user] (new)

My first concert was when I was 17 and was Jerry Lee Lewis who for some bizarre reason was playing Gloucester Leisure Centre - we were lucky to see him as he stormed off in the middle of the next show and canceled the rest of the tour - this was 80s rather than the 50s by the way :0)

message 779: by [deleted user] (new)

@Angela - no - don't worry, we haven't watched it yet - Johnny Depp beckoned and we watched Dark Shadows instead. Kenny is up next though.

message 780: by Hilary (new)

Hilary | 2082 comments My first concert was when I was 14 and it was Cliff Richard who I didn't even like but my friend loved. At 18 I was just taking final exams and leaving school and at 19 I got married to the boy I'd been with since I was 15. We were blissfully happy in a two roomed flat, he played drums in a band and we had the most fantastic, enjoyable time. Happy days!

message 781: by [deleted user] (new)

That's lovely Hilary :0)

I came across this in a Book Blog and it made me smile so I thought I'd share it.
Ben Schott, a non-German speaking Scotsman in collaboration with Dr Oscar Brandt have written a book called -Schottenfreude: German Words for the Human Condition - it consists of newly invented German compounds along with their definitions.
e.g.
Kraftfahrzeugsinnenausstattungsneugeruchsgenuss : The enjoyment afforded by the smell of a new car.

Überraschungspartyüberraschungsheuchlerei : Feigning surprise at a surprise party.

Fußfaust : Instinctively curling up your toes in mortification at someone else's embarrassment

Betttrug : The fleeting sense of disorientation on waking in a strange bed.

I frequently suffer from Fussfaust but rarely I hasten to add from Bettrug :0)

message 783: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) Oh my, the beauty of the 'zusammengesetzte Substantiv'. I believe Fussfaust is by far my favourite one, and I honestly never had 'Kraftfahrzeugsinnenausstattungsneugeruchsgenuss' I am much more likely to have Kraftfahrzeugsinnenausstattungsneugeruchsübelkeit' (nausea caused by the smell of a new car-interior)

Greating from Copenhagen by the way, where I currently work my way towards coffein-poisening. The coffee is sooo good though!!

message 784: by Laurel (new)

Laurel | 1486 comments Mod
Oooh sounds like fun! Hope you are enjoying Copenhagen :)

I've been attempting to make a red velvet cake today but didn't have quite enough food colouring so it's a sort of reddish brown - but still tastes nice so I suppose it doesn't really matter, I just need to do the cream cheese frosting which I'm going to do in the morning.

message 785: by Hilary (new)

Hilary | 2082 comments Sounds lovely!

message 786: by [deleted user] (new)

@ Jenny have a lovely time in Copenhagen - I feel queasy when exposed to new car smell too - did you know they actually sell it as an air freshener ?
@ Hilary - are you still in Edinburgh - is it freezing?
@ Laurel - sounds yummy.
I'm just about to start watching an episode of Kojak - Who loves ya, Baby?

message 787: by Hilary (new)

Hilary | 2082 comments @Lee coming back home to day from Edinburgh, and it's not freezing, but I got very wet yesterday coming back to the hotel and it's raining today so it's just saw ell I'm heading back.

message 788: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh dear - happy home coming :0)

It's Friday, Man, and to help us all get in the groove here is David Bowie on Soul Train with Golden Years (wa, wa,wa)
Marvellous song, magnificent hair and dancing.

Lol you sound like an old-school DJ Lee - love it!

The red velvet was a teensy bit dense (first time I've made one) but apart from that pretty yummy - I will keep working on it till it's perfect ;) Am off for lunch with my little bro and gorgeous niece soon and then heading to my friends later for cocktail night.
Hope everybody has a good weekend, and have a safe journey home Hilary!

Ellie (theelliemo) Hi, everyone :)

Second date yesterday went very well, third one on Tuesday evening :)

The joys of being an accountant: it's been month-end this week so really busy at work, so once again I've had little time to read :( I need to get my reading mojo back!!

message 793: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay! That's great Ellie. From what I remember, dating is almost as bad for book consumption as month end :0)

message 794: by [deleted user] (new)

Here is an intriguing article about how the date of Easter is calculated.

Howard (antipodes) | 210 comments I ran across this site in a Washington Post article a couple of days ago. They are offering a 30 day free trial, after which it costs $8.99 per month to 'borrow' as many ebooks as you want. I am impressed with the availability and variety of material and thought I'd pass along the website. Will try to make this a hotlink, check it out if you are interested.

message 797: by Howard (new)

Howard (antipodes) | 210 comments Well, guess the link didn't work. It's www.scribd.com

message 798: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Antipodes - I see you can get a months free trial which will be worth investigating.

Angela | 738 comments Ugh I am in the WORST mood this morning! Hate those days when you just feel crabby and everything irritates you. Think I am having a fat day haha!
Has the weather improved much for my UK ladies?
