That would be amazing! I'd love to have a resident goblin or something like that :)

Howard (antipodes) | 210 comments OK, goblin and hobgoblin I know. Piskie??? Is there an interpreter in the house?

message 1153: by [deleted user] (new)

Here we are :

"The Piskies of Cornwall
There are a number of creatures particular to Cornish folklore, although their cousins can be found elsewhere in Britain under a different name and guise. One of these strains is the Piskie also known as a Pixie in other West Country counties.
The Piskie is a general name for a fairy race or tribe in Cornwall. In appearance they look like old men with wrinkled faces, and are small in stature with red hair. They dress in the colours of the earth especially green, using natural materials such as moss, grass and lichen.
Generally the piskies are seen as cheerful creatures with a prankish nature. They are said to be helpful but also mischievous, helping the elderly and infirm whilst sometimes leading the more able bodied traveller astray on the lonely moors. Many stories relate to travellers being led into the wild moorland to become hopelessly lost because of the Piskies.
Often places of ancient worship such as stone circles and barrows were avoided as piskie haunts.
There are many legends attached to the origin of the piskies (and other fairies). Some people saw them as the souls of pagans who could not transcend to heaven, and they were also seen as the remnants of pagan gods, banished with the coming of Christianity. In tradition they are doomed to shrink in size until they disappear.
Another theory suggested they were the souls of babies who had not been Christened, a story championed by early clergymen, and one which has often been used to explain fairy origins"

Its Satuday - Hooray! And here is The Flight od the Conchords - talking about the issues but keeping it funky with "Think about it"

They're turning kids into slaves
Just to make cheaper sneakers
But what's the real cost?
'Cause the sneakers don't seem that much cheaper

Howard (antipodes) | 210 comments @Lee - Thanks for the Piskie info - very interesting. I really enjoy learning more about the U.K. - and conversing here I feel like I'm getting the inside scoop, so to speak. Thanks.

Guys I'm so excited! My new breadmaker arrived today and the first loaf is in right now! Can't wait - will let you know how it turns out ;)

message 1157: by [deleted user] (new)

exciting stuff - I shall keep my fingers crossed :0)

message 1158: by Laurel (new)

Laurel | 1486 comments Mod
ha ha well the first attempt didn't work at all. I was trying to make gluten-free bread with an American recipe and I dunno if I converted the measurements wrong or something but it really wasn't right. Will try again with a normal flour and see how it goes.

message 1159: by Angela (new)

Angela | 738 comments Haha you took on a big task for your first loaf Laurel! That gluten free bread is tricky, or so I've heard. Good look with round two :)

message 1160: by Laurel (new)

Laurel | 1486 comments Mod
Yeah - I tend to bite off more than I can chew! (Ha ha I'm so funny) It was pretty horrible - round two will just be an ordinary wholemeal loaf, nothing more so *hopefully* this will come out ok and then I can work my way up to more complicated things ;)

Everybody ok? Must have been a very hectic week... hope you all enjoy the weekend ;)

message 1162: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) I was up til almost 4 this morning in a haunted house :-) Too old to be doing late nights - I'm shattered and about ready for bed again now lol

message 1163: by Laurel (new)

Laurel | 1486 comments Mod
Wow!!!! Was it fun? Did you see any ghosts? I'm really jealous - love spooky stuff ;) Hope you had fun. I know what you mean about the late nights though - I stayed out till 5 a few weeks ago and felt rubbish! And I've only just turned 32 lol - such a lightweight.

message 1164: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) We didn't see anything, and it's always difficult to tell in these old places whether noises are just the building or a ghost, but we did get a series of noises that seemed to be made in response to questions. I am more of a sceptic than most of the people in the group I go with, but I have to say it was a spooky experience!

message 1165: by Laurel (new)

Laurel | 1486 comments Mod
Brilliant! Well at least you can say you've done it! Was it a one off or do you go ghost hunting a lot?

message 1166: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) I used to go quite a lot, with my now ex, but stopped when he became my ex (long story!), but I'm just getting back in to it, this was my third this year.

I would absolutely hate to see a ghost - even a friendly one.

Ellie (theelliemo) Yay, Laurel, enjoy your time off - are you going away other than for the Festival or enjoying some chill time at home?

I have a long weekend next weekend, off to Penzance for 4 nights, it will be so nice to have a change of scenery!

message 1179: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) Hi Angela, I do hope all is well with you, despite being a bit mental

message 1180: by Laurel (new)

@ Ellie - I'm just chilling for the moment and then we will be going up to Scotland on Thursday morning and coming back on Monday. Than back to work Wednesday so hopefully I will have recovered by then!

Enjoy Penznace, I've never been but it looks lovely!

@Lee - thanks very much, and I know the other comment was for Angela, but you totally made me crave peanut butter lol!

message 1181: by Angela (new)

Angela | 738 comments Haha we should ALL eat peanut butter together.. although almond butter is quite nice too ;)

I am jealous of your trip to Scotland Laurel - I am besotted with Edinburgh! And Penzance for you Ellie!! Is it windy down there?

I am been ridiculously busy with this yoga teacher training plus the husband is back near you in Cheltenham so I am a single bachelorette at the moment. The weather in Melbourne is FOUL and I am happily envious of your balmy English sunshine :)

I hope your week is traveling along well lovelies :)

message 1182: by Laurel (new)

Laurel | 1486 comments Mod
Good to hear the yoga teacher training is going well- maybe you'll be able to teach me as I keep trying then giving up!

Guys, I'll be out of touch over the weekend so hope you all have an amazing one! :)
see ya Monday

Hi there, just a quick msg to say hello! Hope everyone is alright and had a good weekend. Scotland was great and I saw some great bands at T in the Park festival but now it's back to work and reality ;)

@Ellie - how was Penzance?

message 1184: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) Penzance is this Friday! Been mega busy at work, had to prepare for a presentation to the Board at their meeting this morning. I've been a nervous wreck!!

message 1185: by Laurel (new)

Laurel | 1486 comments Mod
Oh well - at least it's over now (hate presentations)!

Have fun in Penzance :)

message 1186: by Ellie (new)

Apologies for posting the diaries late guys - was working hard then partying harder ;)

Hope everyone is enjoying this fine monday morning, it's absolutely beautiful here so as soon as I can motivate my slightly hungover self I'm moving out to the garden!

message 1189: by Angela (new)

Angela | 738 comments Hope you have recovered from that hangover Laurel. I am super jealous of your weather ladies - Melbourne is an ice box! So depressing...

Laurel | 1486 comments Mod
Yeah I wasn't really that bad lol! Just lazy ;)

Today I've been having a baking/preserving day so looking forward to later when it's all cooled down and taste test everything!

How is everyone else today? All excited for the weekend?

message 1191: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) Hi everyone! Been conspicuous by my absence this week, sorry :-( Had my long weekend in Penzance, which was absolutely amazing! Traveled down on Friday, and when I got up on Saturday the Met Office were still saying it was going to rain over the weekend - they were wrong! Glorious sunshine the whole time, so I was out and about all day every day :-). The Cornish peninsula is stunning!

Got back home Tuesday evening, straight back to work Wednesday, and straight back into a crisis, so the last three days have been hectic. Glad it's the weekend and I have some chance to relax :-)

Lovely to hear you had such a good time Ellie! Hope you enjoy your weekend and that work isn't too much of a pain when you go back on monday ;)

Because of the lush weather we have been really quiet today which made my 9 hour shift seem like twice that long! Will have to pray for rain and hope that brings everyone in cos I much prefer it when it's busy - keeps me out of mischief lol!
