That's completely fine, I have quite a bit of time on my hands and no immediate plans for further study. At the minute all I have is my dissertation which will really only take at least a couple of hours a day.

Alannah, do you mean a link to a website? I think Goodreads does its own tracking. I think it would be good to have this thread, perhaps under "book chat", and if you are happy to set it up and manage it, that would be great! Just let us know if it gets too much, though...

Not a problem, I will get it set up right away.

Alannah, this is the thread from another group I am in. As you can see, all members can contribute. It doesn't fall to one person's responsibility for updates as this would obviously be a huge undertaking. Thought this might help you.

Looks good, Bette, I think that's a great idea.

That's what I was thinking but I would have a big calendar at the top to help other members so they wouldn't have to go through the posts.

Thanks a lot for answering. Me too, I'm a very curious person ;D
I like your idea but I think I can't add a lot to your discussion because, I'm sorry to say it, I don't know a lot about American literature. But I think it will be very interesting.

I was keen to respond, as was Gill, and Dhanaraj actually commented on the topic itself.
But when I said "from an English point of view" I wasn't thinking of the sort of questions you mentioned, Alannah, as those are purely local issues, ie only interesting for people within the UK. (They are great questions, but not about the topic we were actually discussing.)
What I meant was, I personally would be interested to hear other countries and cultures' views of English literature, and other countries views of other countries (eg USA on Australia) - ie those outside my own experience.
I've restricted this to English-speaking nations purely to simplify the examples. This would clearly be a popular theme, as several of us have expressed a desire to respond.
So how about it mods?

I'll set one up in the morning, Jean, as on my phone at the moment.

Alannah, the problem with the calender idea is that when we members get notifications or emails, it brings us immediately to the relevant post and not the Calender part.
Maybe it would be better to leave out the Calender and let everyone's posts just stay as they are.

As I can't delete the posts, I just thought we'd do it both ways at least for now to try it.

If you decide would like the posts stating release dates deleted at any time (like Jenny does with the bday calendar) just let me know :)

Was going to set up a new thread, but have discovered we already have one entitled "World Literature" under 'Book Chat' - so I thought we could use that? I will move the discussion from here onto there and we can all chat away about it.
Here's the link to the World Literature thread:

Yes, we could do that. Maybe see how it goes for a while...

Thanks Bette, sounds like a good idea, we will definitely bear this in mind when we are planning our group challenges for 2015!

I'll leave it up to the Mod Squad to decide. Thanks, Bette:)

I think the only way would be to do a group announcement as a reminder, or send an email to all members.

One of the other groups I'm in did readathons and stopped doing them because very few people ever took part.
I've received it as well, but I didn't do anything. Probably it is sort of connected wuth the event form!!!

I would be very thankful if someone could add it here at GR.
Thank you in advance!

I don't need any help, but thank you anyhow.

Oh dear... I just added it too. I'll go delete my copy.

Well, it was a good learning experience as I have never added a new title before (just different editions of existing titles). Gotta look at the silver lining :)

Pshaw! It takes about 5 seconds to delete!

Chrissie- Unless they've changed something or it works differently in Europe you don't have to be a librarian to add a new book only to change something about book that is already in the system.

Oh, I had no idea! I thought there were special places you had to go to get the covers and stuff like that. I thought you were not allowed to copy stuff from particular places.

Be aware that when you load on a new edition, you need to ask Librarians/Moderators to combine editions for you. If you don't, your new entry will appear like a 'new' book the author has released i.e. will not appear in the list of 'other editions' of the book.

Actually this book was not listed at all. It wasn't a matter of a new edition.

There are copyright rules about author photos, but I don't think there are any rules about book covers. You can also add a book without adding a cover to it at all. None librarians can add things to a book they added, so you could go back and add the cover later as well.

A lot of story collections have different groupings of stories and you aren't supposed to combine those. That is why people like Chekhov have thousands of books listed as being written by them, because every time a collection comes out with a different grouping of works it gets a new listing.

There were rules about book covers before Amazon bought GR - no Amazon gifs or jpgs were allowed.

I forgot about that. The big cover switch that then switched back.

Yes, I am already aware of that, thanks amber. I was listing the basic rules for Chrissie. More information can be found the the Librarians Manual which can be found in the Help menu. https://www.goodreads.com/librarian_m...
