message 351: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I will just say it straight. I have an enlargement program on my computer scree. This makes it very difficult to add books and go on sites which are new to me. I don't see the whole screen, so I might have to ask for help again. I am totally lost when I try to do something new.

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments No problem Chrissie, I am a librarian for example and I am sure we have many others in the group are as well, so just give us a shout if you need something added or fixed or write a request in the librarians group.

message 353: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Thank you, Jenny.

Being a librarian I have of course already read that.

I'm always happy to help with something Chrissie. I was just letting you know the option exists to add it yourself if needed. :)

I wasn't offended. Since everything was in one paragraph I thought I should make some reply so it wouldn't look like I had ignored your post.

I don't know if you're referencing my post sounding snide or yours being unclear. If it's the former, then yes I could have thought of a way of saying it that didn't sound snide and in a different mood I might have. If it's the latter, then yes it's always a good idea to make it clear to whom one is commenting if they are speaking to more then one person in the same post.

Amber, having read my post the following day, I worried that it might sound both snide and unclear.

On a general everyday level, I do worry that comments which I mean 'tongue-in-cheek' and humorously sound completely different when written. But I think in this case here, we can say that I am happy and you are happy, yes? :)

Yes :)
I realize flippant doesn't post well. It sounds snappish in print so of course I've read it sounds mad rather then offhand, but I wasn't upset even though it probably sounded that way.

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Hey, na'then young Gill, stop stirring it!! LOL

Thanks Chrissie! We went to Dorset, the coast at Abbotsbury to see the cygnets, and had superb weather :) There's a few pics from the hol in my photos, on my profile page, but I had to stop at 20. Seems a pretty random rule to me :( I intend to upload them to a site I could link to (or there's my Facebook page, if you're on there.)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Thanks Chrissie :)

Why is it the senior members of this group who are so incorrigible... Hello Everyman! Nice to see you again :) I'll be back in the Pickwick Lounge soon!

The older set of the group: when we're good, we're very, very good and when we're bad, we're better!

message 378: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) I've not heard that one Bette! But you do realise that we are all enacting that role as we speak - this is the "Ask the Mods" thread!!

Sorry Mods :( I shall proceed to go and stand in the corner, surreptitiously throwing paper darts at Gill, Chrissie, Everyman and Bette...

When it comes to nominations, can we nominate books that have made it to previous polls but didn't win?

message 384: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments Alannah, yes - definitely!

message 385: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) A couple of times I've noticed a planned readalong has made it to be the month's read (Rebecca,The Brothers Karamazov to name but two. And I'll bet they've never sat side by side before. What a thought! :D)

That seems to work quite well, so maybe that's something to bear in mind for anybody considering nominating something. It helps us all with our planned reads and tottering TBR piles.

LOL Everyman!

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments Because of losing Bella, my brain hasn't been 'with it'. I forgot to get the Read-a-thon event set-up and it should have been this weekend.

Do you think we should do it next weekend or just leave it till the end of August now?

message 387: by Alannah (new)

I don't mind Bette, I wasn't going to take part in it anyways because I have so much on my mind at the moment.

message 394: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Just to bring Alannah's post to the top. It may well be a worthy book, but it is a an advert, and now keeps coming up on our notifications. The member joined a bunch of groups at the same time, and this is the only thing she has done in each. Maybe a quiet word to tell her what this group is about might be a good idea?

message 395: by Angela M (new)

Angela M I received the same promotion in a friend request . If I don't already know who is sending the request I take a look at the profile . Sure enough the person had just joined and had 2 books on her read list . I don't begrudge new authors the opportunity to promote their books if they use the proper channels .

message 396: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I saw the post on the recommendation swap section too and told them that the group has a no self-promotion policy here. I hope they understand it.

Chrissie Maybe you have seen the mess that has arisen here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I would suggest that only one book by an author can be nominated. I would be happy if this could be valid even this time in September. Jean thought I should write the question here, and Gill, wants it this way too. What do you think? What a mess! I am sorry this happened. It started b/c Gill wanted the other book and so did I and Diane suggested..... I had no idea of the consequences. Ugh. I think everyone would be happy this way. Jean's book can loose votes and that is a shame. That was not my intention.

Please consider this.
