AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments Hi!

Last night I had my second SFR epiphany. The first, a couple of years ago was about 70/30 happy to sad. The last, switched that ratio to its exact opposite. What was it?

There are too many SFRs for me to ever read them all.

The first time I was happy that SFR was expanding so much! I still am. But now, I'm sad because I really do want to read about 80-90% of them.

Yesterday I searched at Amazon for "romance science fiction" filtered to English and ebooks only. In that very narrow search of only Kindle books there were 100 pages worth. 100! Even filtering out the PNR and UF books there were hundreds of stories.

Filtering further to just those pubbed this year (since April) and into next year there were still dozens.

So, I'm now working on letting go the ambition to read them all and trying to figure out how to read the hundreds I really, really want to read.

What a tough life. (joking)

J.C. (jc_hay) | 30 comments I know the feeling! I tell myself there's always time for more SFR, but its coming out too fast. Terrible problem to have. :-)

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments Exactly. LOL. I went back to Amazon to look again and there weren't 100 pages, there were 400 if I included print.

I may just do a "short story month" during which I read my inventory starting with the shortest stories and trying to get through as many as I can.

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments LOL! I remember a few years ago we were scrambling for it! I usually look at science fiction romance. Maybe I need to flip the search like that.

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments I went back and tried it every which way (sfr, science fiction romance, romance science fiction, space romance) and often came up with different books that all sound like SFR. It was mind-boggling.

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments I tried romance science fiction and science fiction romance and got exact same number. I do know, from starting to bring my back list out myself, that the author only has seven key words and has to choose them with care. (though you can go back and tweak, but not sure which ones to use!) And there aren't that many categories to choose. You only get two.

I tend to use space opera, action and adventure, humor, and of course, SFR, because I feel like that's what the books have. It's a mystery!

Jo (jomixedbookbag) | 14 comments I know. That is why my TBR pile is so high. EBooks make it worse because it is so easy to get lost on the e reader.

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments I'm constantly "losing" books on my reader. I go to buy the book and Amazon tells me I've already got it. O.O
Oops. But it is a happy oops. :-)

message 9: by AnnaM (new)

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments That's the main reason I started logging books here. I found I owned multiple copies of too many books, even ebooks from various sites.

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments yeah, I bought some dups, too. :-(
