In a near future, society is segregated according to whether people are genetically disposed to mental illness. 17-year-old Ana has been living the privileged life of a Pure due to an error in her DNA test. When the authorities find out, she faces banishment from her safe Community, a fate only thwarted by the fact that she has already been promised to Pure-boy Jasper Taurell.

Jasper is from a rich and influential family and despite Ana’s condition, wants to be with her. The authorities grant Ana a tentative reprieve. If she is joined to Jasper before her 18th birthday, she may stay in the Community until her illness manifests. But if Jasper changes his mind, she will be cast out among the Crazies. As Ana’s joining ceremony and her birthday loom closer, she dares to hope she will be saved from the horror of the City and live a ‘normal’ life. But then Jasper disappears.

Led to believe Jasper has been taken by a strange sect the authorities will not intefere with, Ana sneaks out of her well-guarded Community to find him herself. Her search takes her through the underbelly of society, and as she delves deeper into the mystery of Jasper’s abduction she uncovers some devastating truths that destroy everything she has grown up to believe.

on page 28, (view spoiler)[ I thought at the beginning it said that the genes for mental illness were always dominant, but then it said that people could be carriers, which wouldn't be possible if the genes were dominant. I've gone back but I can't find it now! Did you notice it? (hide spoiler)]

I noticed that too! They said at the very beginning (1%/P4) that every one one dominant, but ever since it's said carriers.

I'm still not that far. I wasn't expecting all this court-room stuff, that's pretty dull.

Just over half-way now, but I thought of something, (view spoiler)[ if ana was able to recognise herself in that video of Cole that she saw in court, wouldn't everyone else have recognised her? With the sort of technology that they're supposed to have, wouldn't she have been recognised, which would have then implicated cole further? (hide spoiler)]

up to 73%. really trying to push to finish this before I have to switch to my kindle.

Gonna have to switch to my kindle now and finish this tomorrow. Think I'll read a bit of now instead ☺

How's monsters going?

I've been reading 10% a day because it is ridiculously long, like 781 pages on the kindle. It has been seriously non-stop action though! It's following about 3 different people at the moment, so the story is split between them, but it has just been life-or-death moment, followed by life-or-death moment, followed by life-or-death moment! How these kids are still alive is unfathomable, really good though!

I'll probably re-read Ashes so i remember everything. :)

This one's just too dull. Need to read something (hopefully) better for a bit.

Just totally confused myself switching from monsters to this! Took me a few seconds to work out what was going on!
