Just wondering; is it common for another author to offer to read and write an honest review of you book if you read and review theirs, and they don't read or review your book?
I'm just wondering about three in particular. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I don't want to be 'used' either.
Just wonderin'
Jim

Romana Drew | 19 comments I’m not sure I understand the question. Did you read and review a book for someone with the promise that they would do the same for you and then they failed to either read and/or review your book or, are you asking if trading books for review is common practice?

L.L. Watkin (LLWatkin) | 12 comments I think you've been stung, mate, and it's not that uncommon. Whenever you see a read and review thread the mod is always warning people to keep their commitments and there's a lot of chasing after late/missing reviews going on. This is true whether they are reciprocal or not.
I think reciprocal reviews are more at risk, because once they've got what they want the unscrupulous will disappear, and they're generally seen as bad practise anyway. Amazon will remove them if it finds them because they're often not as honest as 3rd party reviews.

Thanks for the info, L.L.

I've read and reviewed a few books, and the authors had promised to read and review my book, yet they haven't done so.

Well, I had my reviews done within three weeks, and I was straightforward as to the timelines I expected to have them done by; I finished a week early, due to long layovers in airports. So, I've scratched their backs.

Maybe next time, if there is a next time, ask for the review of your book first.

No, I think I'll just let the reviews come in as they will.
