Have a pedicure and feel pampered. It is far less expensive than a complete spa day, but you'll feel loads better afterwards.

LOL, I'd love a manicure right now - just to pamper myself, but with everything I have to do this summer, it would be ruined inside of 6 hours. I'll save my money, thanks, LOL! Besides, there are just too many good books coming out that I want to get my hands on!

Any other suggestions, Kathleen?

That's why I prefer a pedicure to a manicure. My manicures are always ruined within hours, but my last pedicure was two weeks ago, but my toes are still a lovely shade of pearlescent. Unless you are on a beach vacation where sand and salt water can wreck nail polish, pedi's last. Plus pedi's always involve more pampering.

I'd love that, but I don't like it when people play with my feet. I could really use a nice, deep massage and a hot soak. *eyes closed, daydreaming...*

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) Hi Colleen, I'm new here!

Hope you enjoy the pedicure, I had one at the Bedford Spa and Springs in May it was awesome. The hot wax treatment is divine.

Have fun!

Colleen (colleenct1) | 1537 comments Thank you, I hope to just relax. I have not decided on the color yet by Ray is hoping I pick a bright red. I keep telling him he is either going to make the best boyfriend or have a bunch of restraing orders against him. He is such a control freak at 8. LOL

Colleen (colleenct1) | 1537 comments Well July is not getting any better.

Last night I received word that my friend Billy died. He was 63 and was diagnosed with mesothelioma the begining of this year.

We met about 22 years ago. He would come into the bar where I worked, we became fast friends. Billy and I were even roommates for about 7 years when my older son Rob was young.

He loved to smoke, drink and gamble. He was a Bronze Star hero from Vietnam, who always though the heros were the ones who never came home.

We had a lot of fun together and I will really miss him.

Colleen, I'm so sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers are heading your way.

Sorry I haven't been on in a while, folks. Fighting an ear infection. Seems the only thing I've been able to do the last couple of days is eat and sleep. Feel asleep around 7pm last night and didn't wake up until 8:30 this morning! I'm on antibiotics and prescription advil, so I'm not in too much pain, but I can't hear anything. LOL, try answering the phone without yelling cause you can't even hear yourself! It's been an interesting couple of days, I'll give you that.

message 69: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sanddune) Gina, ear infections hurt as well as all the other things you mentioned. Hope it clears up soon.

message 70: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 3325 comments Mod
Woohoo! I hear crackling in my ear when I swallow now, so that means the antibiotics are working. Mind you, I have to take those horse pills for 10 days, twice a day, which means until next Saturday. While that usually doesn't bother me, I have to take them with food. The same with the advil. I've never eaten that much food in my life, and I have to do that for 10 days?! There goes my freaking diet... *eyeroll*

Don't have much planned for today. It's supposed to rain, although we haven't seen it yet. It was sunny this morning, but I didn't get to enjoy it. I'm in the middle of laundry, now that my washer's working again. I swear, that sucker has an attitude. And now, just to complicate matters even more, my home phone's not working properly. I can make calls, no problem, but if someone tries to call me, I get a half ring, then nothing. Those who've called said it rings once, sounds like someone picked up, but then there's static and it hangs up. Grrr. The phone company was here, checked the wires outside and said the problem's inside the house. Oh, well of course it is. Nothing can be simple this week. So, when hubby comes back from his recall, he's going to check each jack and wiring, upstairs and down.

If I had a chance to restart this week, I'd sleep through the entire thing and avoid the aggravation. Ugh.

message 71: by Wendy T (new)

Wendy T Glad your starting to feel better Gina. I hope you have a better week.

Thanks, folks, I am feeling better. Health wise, anyway.

I've a question for you: have you ever been so angry you could rip someone apart, horrified at something you found, and terrified by all the 'what-ifs' floating around in your head, all at the same time? Allow me to explain my situation, then you'll understand.

On Wednesday, July 22nd, after dinner, my mother tried to get a hold of me. From her end, my phone would do a half-ring, pick up and hang up. Not even my voicemail would pick up. Since my brother was going into town, she asked him to stop by to let me know there's something wrong with my phone. Yet, when I pick up my phone, I can dial out and talk as long as I want with no problem. Mom explained what was going on when she tried to reach me.

So, on Thursday, July 23, from work, I call 611, which is the faster way to reach telephone repair. I explain the situation, she informs me someone will be at my home sometime in the afternoon. Gee, isn't that just dandy? I'm at work, not at home! Okay, so, can whoever goes to my house to fix the problem please call me at work when they're on their way, so I can meet up with them. Did I get a phone call? No. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. At 4:50, I call 611. When are they going to the house? Oh, ma'am, they were there between 2 and 2:30. Hunh. What happened to my phone call? Oh, well ma'am, they only need you there if they have to go inside. Okay, so what did they find outside? Nothing was wrong outside, ma'am. Your problem is originating in the house. (now I'm trying to keep my cool.) Then why didn't they phone me? I'm not sure ma'am. They suggest you check all your lines, double-check your cordless phones, jacks, everything. The problem is in the house. So, after work, when hubby got up, we checked all the jacks and phone lines. There was no problem.

Friday, July 24. I call 611 and explain I'm still having the problem. Half the time, I don't even get to hear the half-ring at home - only those trying to call me. Repair will call me back. Repair calls me back. Ma'am, check all your lines... Sir, I did that, there's nothing wrong. Okay, then here's what I suggest. If we go there, inside your home, you'll be charged for the job. Try yourself. Go to where your phone box is in your basement, unplug each line and test it from there. I go home, go shopping, hubby leaves for work late, having got up late. So, I still don't have my phone.

Saturday, hubby worked overtime, then went to his parents for a 'family meeting', then went and did his recall. By the time he got home, he was bushed. He ate and went to bed. Still no phone. Yet, I can still dial out with no problem.

Sunday, after lunch, after hubby's recall, we set to work on our lines. Again, all jacks, phone lines, etc., working fine. Hubby puts on his shoes, grabs his flashlight, and heads into the basement. Flipping open his cell, he calls the house, and watches sparks fly from my phone line coming into the house!!!

Apparently, when we had our DSL installed the first time, the guy from the phone company had gone downstairs to hook everything up. He'd installed a filter from the line coming into the house, that then plugged into the phone box. The filter was sparking! (I also need to mention - the second time we got our DSL connected, the phone company sent me filters to attached to each phone line on the ground floor, because of the DSL. They can turn the DSL on from their end, so they don't need to come to the house.) I hear hubby cursind downstairs, he comes running up: "plug in a phone". Sure enough, I've got my phone back! Now I'm overjoyed - that is, until he tosses the filter at me, which I catch in mid-air. The end of the plug, the prongs, are BLACK! The filter is fried, it was screwing with my phone lines. Lucky them, I have an unfinished basement with cement walls and cement floors. Lucky them, we don't store anything, expecially anything flammable, in our basement! I lost it! Their damn equipment could've started a house fire!

And here, ladies and gentlement, is where my question comes into play. I'm so angry, I'm seeing red. I'm horrified at the thought of someone else's faulty equipment, and now terrified of all the 'what-ifs' running around in my head. My husband works night. I'm home alone with two kids. What if there'd been a fire? What would I have done? Would the kids and I gotten out okay...? All these questions - here I'm typing and my hands are shaking! Can't wait to call the phone company tomorrow - I wonder if I'll know who answers the phone on their end. I'm worried I'll make them cry, cause, ladies and gentlemen, I'm about to go psycho on someone's butt!

*taking a bow* Have a great evening!

Hope that everything is repaired with your telephone and that there is no longer a danger to your home. For the record, we no longer have a land line. With everyone having a cell phone, we canceled our land line several years ago.

message 74: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 3325 comments Mod
I'll tell ya, Kathleen, on Sunday afternoon, that's exactly where my thoughts were headed. We pay $75 a month for our land line and internet, with special features on our phone like Call Waiting, Voicemail, and such. Marc pays about $35 a month for his cell. Honesly, if we went with just the internet and two cell phones, the cost would be higher. So I'll stick with what I have for now. How long is anyone's guess at this point.

message 75: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 1537 comments Oh Gina, what a scary week. I hope that everything gets fixed and you and the kids are no longer in danger. You did give them hell right? They deserved it.

Gina (ginrobi) | 3325 comments Mod
I think the girl got the idea of how upset I was; my voice was shaking as I was explaining the situation, I was that angry still. I was pacing my office cause I couldn't sit still. They're sending someone out to look at the equiment in my basement on Thursday, just to make sure everything's okay and if the equipment is old, they'll change it. I won't be paying a dime. Plus, the charge for when they showed up last Thursday isn't supposed to show up on my bill. If it is, oh, I'll be calling back.

message 77: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 3325 comments Mod
Finally, my phone's fixed! Good grief. On Tuesday, I called and set up another time for them to come over and double-check their equipment. It was set for Thursday around 3pm. I made sure they still had my work number so that they could call me there and I'd meet them here at home; I can't afford to sit around all day waiting for them to show up.

Wednesday, around ten to 3pm, I get a call - he's parked in front of my house! Arrrrgh! I was with a customer and had another waiting - I couldn't just take off! The appointment was for Thursday, for crying out loud! So, he set up a time to be at our house at 8am. That was perfect timing - and would have been excellent had he actually showed up! Geez! My husband came home early from work to be home, and the bugger didn't show. Not impressed, let me tell you.

So, I get to work and call 611 again - where the heck is the repair guy? She puts me on hold, gets in touch with him, then gets back on the line. He's at a job, as soon as he's done, he'll call me. It's 10am, I don't know if hubby's still up, so I remind them to call me when he's on his way. Did I get a call? Nope. But he did show up. And hubby was still up, thank G, or I think I'd have gone ballistic. The phone box coming into the house was completely corroded because of the moisture in the basement. We had some really bad leaks that we took care of, but our basement is unfinished; we have a rock in the corner that has a constant leak that we can't stop, so the sump pump goes off every now and then. He changed the box, and all's well. He couldn't understand why the first guy, years ago, put a filter going from the line coming in going into the phone box; it isn't needed there. *eyeroll*. Finally, I can stop worrying. Whew!

Tell me about it. *eyeroll*

At least this weekend passed uneventfully. The weather made it for a blah long weekend. It was hard keeping the kids busy so they wouldn't wake up hubby. Sunday was the pits. At that time of the month, I always get a migraine, and true to the nature, it hit me Sunday. I was either in bed or passed out on the recliner, and again for the first half of today. Better now, but I was sure cursing a blue streak this morning when I had to down 4 more Tylenol Rapid Release. Hubby's working tonight, so I had to keep the kids quiet - not easy when it's pouring rain outside.

Tomorrow's Tuesday, back to the same old grind. Ack.

Colleen (colleenct1) | 1537 comments Ok, so today you can call me Quasimodo. Today August 6 is "Hiroshima Day of Remembrance" and I had to ring the church bells from 8:15am till 8:30am for a peace group that had a rally on the New Haven Green.

We still do it the old fashioned way, with a rope in the bell tower. I now have a blister on my finger because I could not find my gloves. LOL It was for a good cause, but if this was a "union" job I would probally get 3 days off for my blister. LOL
