This came up in another discussion and we thought it a good idea to start a separate one to name any authors we are aware of that are fans of this series. What authors do you know who have declared themselves to be fans?

message 2: by Susan (new)

Susan Maya Banks tweets about Eve and Rourke quite often.

message 3: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Sylvia Day is a fan. Her character Eva in the Crossfire series reads In Death books and she calls Gideon, Ace because he reminds her of Roarke.

Lorelei James lists JD Robb as one of her favorite authors!

Good to know I'm not the only one that counts JD Robb as an author (as opposed to Nora Roberts). If people ask, I tell them I don't read Nora Roberts. Because I kind of don't...technically. It's a fine line lol.

message 6: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I read both, but definitely see "them" as different authors.

message 7: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Me too Dawn. When people ask me my favorite authors, I name them both.

message 8: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
I, too, found it interesting that James listed JD Robb as her favorite author...she made no reference to Nora Roberts. I love the books & get every new book put out under either name. It would be easy to assume they are 2 different authors.

message 9: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15062 comments Mod
I also see them as different authors. There are many who love Nora's books under her name but don't like this series and vice versa. As I discovered this series first and started reading Nora afterwards, my first thought is always J. D. Robb.

message 10: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments Thanks guys :)

message 11: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
I was the opposite, J. I discovered Nora first and fell in love with her romance stories. Later, stumbled over the fact she writes as JD Robb. I hate to admit, but I also now tend to think of Robb first!

message 12: by Ladyacct (new)

Ladyacct | 153 comments Well Lorelei also writes mystery/dramas under another name too which are really good in my opinion which makes her erotica seperate from those. I also seem to remember Nalini Singh mentioning the In Death series too.

message 13: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
yes. James writes as Lori Armstrong. Good suspense! Also writes under another name too

message 14: by Ladyacct (new)

Ladyacct | 153 comments A third name? What is it? Do you know?

message 15: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
I'm sorry Ladyacct, I said that wrong. LJ writes several other series as Lori Armstrong...strong Romance/Suspense. I was thinking of 2 of the series: Mercy Gunderson & P.I. Julie Collins...I had those names in my head! lol They really are good suspense books. She has many others. I am a mod for Lorelei James Fan Roundup GRs group. I know her big draw is the sex in her cowboy series but I love her suspense series.

Gonna have to check out those Romance/Suspense novels by LJ... I'm sorry to be an old grump, but I enjoy stories without the erotica. In fact, when I read the In Death stories out loud I generally skim over the sex scenes, cause we know it's always going to be more mind-blowing than the last time. The only exception is when there's some dialogue about how they feel about each other. Not the physical sensations, but the emotional ones.

message 17: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
Better skip LJ if you don't want to read the sex because it's heavily laden with it. Her suspense series has less but still some.

Anyone else know any authors listing JD Robb as a favorite?

message 18: by Donna (new)

Donna (adje8795) | 12 comments Is it about the same frequency as the "In Death" series, more, or less? I can judge things based on that. Thanks!

message 19: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
I think more but that's just my opinion but I haven't read all her suspense books yet. I do enjoy them.

message 20: by Donna (new)

Donna (adje8795) | 12 comments I think I'll try one and see. Any suggestions?

message 21: by Donna (new)

Donna (adje8795) | 12 comments Sorry, but I'm off-topic here... I'll do better next time, I promise!

You know, we have lots of conversations about other authors all the time in various topics. I've thought we needed a separate one just for these type situations so I'm going to start one now.

I just checked and we already have one for favorite authors:

Also, these discussions crop up (appropriately so) in the thread Starshine just posted.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
Other favorite authors might have been a better choice of threads but I left some info for you, Donna, in the thread What are you reading in 2013. See the link in my post 23.

message 26: by Donna (new)

Donna (adje8795) | 12 comments Thank you so much, Sandra! Now to go to bed and finish Strangers in Death. Eve has almost all the proof she needs for Cheryl Reo to issue an arrest warrant! Finally, the villain will pay!!! ;)

message 27: by Ren Puspita (new)

Ren Puspita (renpuspita) Nalini Singh is fans of JDRobb. Her Guild Hunter resemble much of Eve and Roarke (the h/H also have a similar first letter!). Meljean Brook too. And I think maybe Ilona Andrews. They have character, named Raphael who remind me so much to Roarke. Funny.

Read those thought you knew something I didn't!!!

Thanx Ren. I read Singh's psy/changeling series, didn't like the hunter series but I think I have to it a try now that I have competition for Roarke !

Nancy Gideon is a fan of JD Robb too. I recently had the opportunity to interview her for my blog (coming out next week) & I asked her when she curled up with a good book, who would the author be - she gave me 4 or 5 that she considered "go to" authors and one of them was JD Robb!

message 31: by Susan (new)

Susan I am looking forward to the interview!!

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
Yes, it is. I'm very honored that she is doing an interview with me when I'm very new at blogging. I know you know I started a group for her books here on GR's because I love them and think they deserve the recognition. She is very candid and answers questions that are posted for her in the group. And I was so pleasantly surprised when she named JD Robb as a "go to" author for her personal reading. Although, I don't know why it surprised me when Robb is one of my "go to" authors too! lol

message 35: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Maya Banks has an ARC of Thankless In Death! I'm jealous. :(

message 36: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15062 comments Mod
Those ARCs don't go to bloggers and the like...I think that's great that Maya's previewing.

message 37: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
That's cool! One could dream of getting one of those ARC's!

message 38: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments In a way, I'm kind of glad everyone else has to wait like the rest of us for a new book lol. Otherwise, I'll just be in my corner pouting.

message 39: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
I agree, Quynh...and less chance of "leaks" this way too, I imagine. Other than what they want told about the book...

LOL, no wonder I feel Max and CeeCee's dynamic is very much alike Eve and Roarke! (but I love her books too)

*groan* I don't need any more encouragement. I'm so underwater right now:)

LOL...yes, the heroine in the By Moonlight books is a kickass police detective and does remind me of Eve. These books are pnr but unlike most that you will have read. Very focused on the romance and the banter & suspense of these two characters situations. And very in depth once you get into the following books.

So you've read them, Ren?

Nancy Weeks, author featured today on Just Romantic Suspense, responded to my pst by saying how much she loves the series!

Jill Shalvis mentioned Roarke as one of her favorites that she would choose to be stranded with on a desert island.

message 46: by Jen (new)

Jen Blood (jen_blood) | 2 comments I know this is an old thread, but thought I'd drop in anyway, since I just did some research on this very question. If you visit the JD Robb website, there are quotes from some incredible authors there: Stephen King, Janet Evanovich, David Baldacci, Dennis Lehane, Jonathan Kellerman... Just scroll down the page, and you'll find those quotes mixed in with quotes from Booklist and Publisher's Weekly.
