Michelle (to-whatever-end) My small city has about 7 libraries, which is a lot for such a finite area. My mom used to work at the one downtown so I went there all the time. Unfortunately, the majority of them have been neglected over time. There are never any new books and so I end up spending a ton of money at Chapters instead.

☆☆Hannah☆☆ | 6935 comments I live in a small town. Our library is nice. We can get books from other libraries which helps. The nice thing is that you can check out as many as you like. Unlike many libraries we only get to keep our books for two weeks. Although, we can re-check them out if need be.

Michelle (to-whatever-end) I live in a small 'city', but it is basically just a big, close knit town. Even so we have about 5 libraries within the town and 3 more in the townships surrounding it. Anyways, though the libraries were once my favorite place to go, they have gotten a bit bad in the past few years. Renovations have been started and then abandoned over and over and so whole areas of the libraries have been closed off for years. They hardly ever get new books in, and if they do they usually go missing within the first week of being on the shelves never to be seen again. The women that work at these libraries are so rude and obnoxious, I'm always afraid to approach them (which doesn't help my serious anxiety). However, we have some amazing books store all across town. Though most of them are used book stores, we have a Chapters further uptown. The books are cheap, almost always in good condition and the people that work there are so helpful and nice. (I should know, I worked at one last summer, haha.) So now my friends and I buy most of books instead of getting them from the library.

message 155: by Athena (new)

Athena Moore (dymondmr17) My library is okay. you can check out up to 100(!) books at one time, and they'll hold books for you for up to a week after you reserve them. However, they're YA section is kinda bare and we don't get new book releases til months after they come out so I often have to put stuff on hold. They don't have good DVDs or CDs either, but i love it all the same.

message 156: by Grace Meredith (new)

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) I have a few different go-to libraries in my city. The one I use most is called Fox Point library, and it's really close to an elementary school so it can get pretty annoying after school hours. I generally pick up my on-hold books there. It's slightly underground and it has this cement 'yard' around it. NOT very pretty.

Also, a few minutes away, there's this old library called the William Hall library. It's got a great big ceiling (kind of like a church), and this really amazing paneling and design. There are all sorts of computer nooks, and I just really love it there.

message 157: by Linsey (new)

Linsey My library is awesome. It has a bestseller book section where you can get out the new released books for a week. The bestseller books go quickly so I usually have to put them on hold if I want them. They have a ton of DVDS and anything else that you can think of.

message 158: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments My library is decent and only about 5-6 blocks away. I can check out 25 books from our own library system plus 5 Link+ books if they have to get the book from outside our system.

If I put a book on hold, when it arrives they call me and I have 10 days to pick it up from the time they call me. If I don't pick up a book, it's a $1 restocking fee...never happened!

We don't have a very current number of audio books, but I can get those on Overdrive so that's no biggie.

The ladies there know me well now, so I really like them and feel really comfortable there. I do wish I could check out 100 books at a time, just so I could have them when I'm ready; however, I'd never get to them all in time and I'd never be able to recheck all of them out again.

I get my books for three weeks but I can check out my books again up to 3 more times if there are no holds. So the potential is anywhere from 3-12 weeks, except the Link+ books are no more than one recheck out even if there are no holds.

Angela Maria Hart (angelamariahart) | 18 comments My library is ever expanding. I need another bookshelf, but I don't have any room! This is the best kind of problem.:)

message 160: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 04, 2016 04:09PM) (new)

My library is currently being remodeled so the temporary location is quite small. :( I have to put things on hold online.

On the brighter side, it's going to be bigger! Hopefully that means there will be more YA books.

Fifty books is the limit.

message 161: by Alyson (new)

Alyson Stone (alysonserenastone) | 300 comments We don't have a book limit, but we don't get very many new releases. It's a small rural library. However, it does have a large digital library.

message 162: by Mariem (new)

Mariem | 6 comments It is shaped like a house ; You can check my Insta for see it : mariem_gkg

message 163: by Jessie (Saffity) (new)

Jessie (Saffity) (saffity) I haven't been to my local library in a while but I know they have really good kids programs. At the moment they're renovating our old post office to be a teen facility. They even have a cosplay corner which is cool.

Our digital library is really extensive because my city library went in cahoots with 6 other libraries to have a bigger budget.

message 164: by The Book Crusader (new)

The Book Crusader (thebookcrusader) | 14 comments I regularly go to two libraries: their selections of new releases leaves a lot to be desired, but they sell a lot of used books for almost nothing. Once I even managed to pick up a near-mint condition copy of the best young-adult novel on the planet King Dork for a mere ten cents. And it was a hardback copy at that!

message 165: by Mallory (new)

Mallory (figslibrary) | 118 comments I go to my city's main library and it's HUGE. There are thousands of books and has a huge children's section and they just recently extended the YA section. It would be impossible for anyone to read all the books at that library. I love that there's a huge selection because you can pretty much find most books. You can also rent ebooks and audio books. There's also a permanent used book sale which is awesome for finding super cheap books.

I'm not sure if there's a limit to how many books you can borrow, but you can borrow up to 3 weeks and renew them if needed.

message 166: by Dichotomy Girl (new)

Dichotomy Girl (dichotomygirl) | 403 comments I am completely spoiled, as I have access to many many libraries!

The local library, is small, but connected to many other libraries in our state. I can check out 50 books, for 3 weeks, and renew twice. The also have a small ebook collection, where I can check out 10 books and have 5 on hold. (My 5 year old has a card as well, so I can sometimes double that). My husband's card is set up for his home town, 30 minutes away, which has a separate e-library.

Additionally, I pay $35 to access the Metro library in the next county, which has a nice size e-library, which allows 20 check outs and 75 holds.

In addition to this: My Mom and I, who live in two states 1000 miles apart, share our library access. That state, has a HUGE collection, but wait times are long, but a much better selection than locally.

For the hard to find or academic books, my husband works at a large university, and often checks out books for me.

tldr; I have access to 3 physical libraries (in different system) and 4 different e-libraries systems. And I just calculated that I could check out 200+ books if I so had the mind to. (In reality I have 41 currently checked out among all accounts).

I LOVE libraries!!

message 167: by Corrine (new)

Corrine | 115 comments I can only read ebooks and there is a limited selection in my local library. I hope to get access to another e-library but the chances are slim :( At my local library we can check out 10 items at a time and have 10 on hold. You can not renew any titles though.

message 168: by Colleen (new)

Colleen Scidmore (colleensreadingadventures) | 268 comments I have 4 different county libraries I use. 2 of the libraries are really good and I can find almost anything. And I use Overdrive a lot so I can get Ebook checkouts and Audio as well when I can't physically go in.

message 169: by [deleted user] (new)

my library is very small so I have to checkout books from other libraries and those books are shipped to my library. this is a long process sometimes, so I am getting into ebooks on overdrive and Amazon Kindle.

message 170: by Abi (last edited Mar 17, 2017 03:15PM) (new)

Abi (booksa144) My library is pretty great. We have 5 branches, and it's really easy for me to put books on hold (which I do quite a lot) and have them put on the holds shelf at the branch I usually go to, which is about ten minutes away. It usually doesn't take very long. There are no holds, checkouts, or renewals limits, but you can't renew a book if someone else has it on hold. Books can be checked out for 4 weeks without renewal. There are 25 cent overdue charges (by the day). I'd say that selection is pretty good, and when my library doesn't have a book, I can use the interlibrary loan system, which I freaking love!

message 171: by daena (new)

daena (daenareads) | 6 comments I have a library, I just don't have any bookshelves. So, all my books (over 100 maybe) is in different places in my house back home and in my dorm.

message 172: by Charisma (new)

Charisma Logan Small about 30 books and no shelf ☹️ Lol one day though.

message 173: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 132 comments No library sadly. Just one big white bookshelf concealed behind the mirror. Actually, no. The mirror is the door of the big cabinet that serves as my bookshelf. It might sound small but it has enough room to acommodate at least 400 to 450 books. The rest I keep in another shelf which is fancy and sadly cannot have more than 40 books in it.

message 174: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie (kenziesnow) | 12 comments My old library in CO was pretty big. I knew that there was a 3 week limit to keeping the books, but I never knew the check out limit.

My new library here in TX seems to be a decent size. There is a 50 book checkout limit and a 3 week check out time limit.

message 175: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments I'm just a wee bit jealous of some of you whose libraries allow you to check out so many books! I'm allowed to check out 25 from my library which is about 4 blocks from my house. Then I'm allowed to check out 5 Link+ books which are books that my library system and all of its sister branches don't have. But if I lose one of those books, it would be a $115 charge! Thankfully I never have and I always have 5 books. I can check out for 3 weeks at a time and my regular library allows me to check them out 3 more times if no one has them on hold, but Link+ only allows me to check it out one extra time for 3 additional weeks.

I am also have a card at the San Francisco library which is a Beauty and the Beast library that I could virtually LIVE in, but it's an hour plus drive and I never would go alone! So I don't really use it but if I ever do, I can borrow 100 books at a time. I think they are also for 3 weeks but not sure.

cali 𖡼.𖤣𖥧𖡼.𖤣𖥧 (calsreadingcorner) I have several local libraries near me, however they are shutting down the funding for YA!!!! D:

They hold monthly book clubs for YA's to "tangent" as well as one NA women.

You can keep books for 3 weeks, then renew for another. DVDs are less than 5 days, I think. Some books are "fast reads" (some that aren't even popular, which is weird), which aren't necessarily short, but you can only keep them for 1 week.

There's isn't really a little on how many books you can get, but they do suggest around 20 items. Plus any amount of ebook. You can only reserve 5 items at a time, though.

The variety is good for multicultural Australia; each branch has a different culture's language section ie a Korean, Japanese, French etc...

But as I said earlier; they've been decreasing the funding for YA for about a decade now... It's super sad :/ They don't see it useful in the future???????????

(THE FUTURE GENERATION, NOT BEING ENCOURAGED TO READ.......... LIKE... nope I can't).

We are also wildly understaffed, I feel bad for my buddies who race around the district. They only accept senior citizens as volunteers too-- so I can't even help.

They have a WONDERFUL children's sing-a-long program, 3x a week at all the libraries.

I've said enough about my libraries haha.

message 177: by Kat (new)

Kat (sailercat) I love my local library. They have this massive collection of Sandra Brown novels (fav. author) so I have read 80% of the books they have from her.

My library has really improved when it comes to possessing up to date YA novels which is great. We have about a 3 week checkout length. My fav. new feature is being able to place a hold on books online on their website. ;)

message 178: by D L K (new)

D L K (ravenxgirl) My local library is a pretty decent size. Many people go there to study, use the computers or get homework help, its rare that I see people my age picking out a book. I love the little YA corner in the back. Its out of sight and its away from the noise. It has a whole section of YA books and has two shelves of manga and graphic novels. Its like it was made for me! hahaha

message 179: by Imogen (new)

Imogen Reeves (purplegems3) | 7 comments The Library near me is quite nice. There are 12 computers, 1 of them has a scanner next to it. It has a small DVD area. Every section is quite small but it still nice. The Children's Section looks the nicest as the walls are brightly coloured & it has a red sofa that goes around in a circle (it's not comfortable but I'm still jealous).

message 182: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Christine I have 3 different library cards and all three libraries are huge and have wonderful selections. If one library doesn't have the book I'm looking for the other two libraries certainly will.

message 187: by Marla (new)

Marla | 1348 comments I LOVE my local library. You know you are a library addict when librarians call you to ask about a book, recommend a book and know your name.

They did a GREAT job during the pandemic and were only closed for 4 months.

Though they just closed for a 5 week renovation. My daughter asked why they didn't do it during the pandemic closure. Yup, too bad that timing didn't work out.

message 188: by Giorgia (new)

Giorgia (booktoire) My local library is pretty small but has an amazing network of libraries. You can borrow a book for min. 1 month and max. 3 and if the library does not have the book they will have it sent from another library in the system. Delivery is super quick (3 days) too. The librarians are sweethearts and recognize everyone
