What is Your Library Like?

Also, a few minutes away, there's this old library called the William Hall library. It's got a great big ceiling (kind of like a church), and this really amazing paneling and design. There are all sorts of computer nooks, and I just really love it there.

If I put a book on hold, when it arrives they call me and I have 10 days to pick it up from the time they call me. If I don't pick up a book, it's a $1 restocking fee...never happened!
We don't have a very current number of audio books, but I can get those on Overdrive so that's no biggie.
The ladies there know me well now, so I really like them and feel really comfortable there. I do wish I could check out 100 books at a time, just so I could have them when I'm ready; however, I'd never get to them all in time and I'd never be able to recheck all of them out again.
I get my books for three weeks but I can check out my books again up to 3 more times if there are no holds. So the potential is anywhere from 3-12 weeks, except the Link+ books are no more than one recheck out even if there are no holds.

My library is currently being remodeled so the temporary location is quite small. :( I have to put things on hold online.
On the brighter side, it's going to be bigger! Hopefully that means there will be more YA books.
Fifty books is the limit.

Our digital library is really extensive because my city library went in cahoots with 6 other libraries to have a bigger budget.

I'm not sure if there's a limit to how many books you can borrow, but you can borrow up to 3 weeks and renew them if needed.

The local library, is small, but connected to many other libraries in our state. I can check out 50 books, for 3 weeks, and renew twice. The also have a small ebook collection, where I can check out 10 books and have 5 on hold. (My 5 year old has a card as well, so I can sometimes double that). My husband's card is set up for his home town, 30 minutes away, which has a separate e-library.
Additionally, I pay $35 to access the Metro library in the next county, which has a nice size e-library, which allows 20 check outs and 75 holds.
In addition to this: My Mom and I, who live in two states 1000 miles apart, share our library access. That state, has a HUGE collection, but wait times are long, but a much better selection than locally.
For the hard to find or academic books, my husband works at a large university, and often checks out books for me.
tldr; I have access to 3 physical libraries (in different system) and 4 different e-libraries systems. And I just calculated that I could check out 200+ books if I so had the mind to. (In reality I have 41 currently checked out among all accounts).
I LOVE libraries!!

my library is very small so I have to checkout books from other libraries and those books are shipped to my library. this is a long process sometimes, so I am getting into ebooks on overdrive and Amazon Kindle.

My new library here in TX seems to be a decent size. There is a 50 book checkout limit and a 3 week check out time limit.

I am also have a card at the San Francisco library which is a Beauty and the Beast library that I could virtually LIVE in, but it's an hour plus drive and I never would go alone! So I don't really use it but if I ever do, I can borrow 100 books at a time. I think they are also for 3 weeks but not sure.

They hold monthly book clubs for YA's to "tangent" as well as one NA women.
You can keep books for 3 weeks, then renew for another. DVDs are less than 5 days, I think. Some books are "fast reads" (some that aren't even popular, which is weird), which aren't necessarily short, but you can only keep them for 1 week.
There's isn't really a little on how many books you can get, but they do suggest around 20 items. Plus any amount of ebook. You can only reserve 5 items at a time, though.
The variety is good for multicultural Australia; each branch has a different culture's language section ie a Korean, Japanese, French etc...
But as I said earlier; they've been decreasing the funding for YA for about a decade now... It's super sad :/ They don't see it useful in the future???????????
(THE FUTURE GENERATION, NOT BEING ENCOURAGED TO READ.......... LIKE... nope I can't).
We are also wildly understaffed, I feel bad for my buddies who race around the district. They only accept senior citizens as volunteers too-- so I can't even help.
They have a WONDERFUL children's sing-a-long program, 3x a week at all the libraries.
I've said enough about my libraries haha.

My library has really improved when it comes to possessing up to date YA novels which is great. We have about a 3 week checkout length. My fav. new feature is being able to place a hold on books online on their website. ;)

They did a GREAT job during the pandemic and were only closed for 4 months.
Though they just closed for a 5 week renovation. My daughter asked why they didn't do it during the pandemic closure. Yup, too bad that timing didn't work out.
