April Hollingworth | 105 comments The publishing house I sent my novel to that has interest in it I found by chance a couple of months after I'd sent my novel off to the other publishing houses.
They have been brilliant and keep me informed and up to date. Also helped me see where I needed to do extra editing and tips as well as informing me that they are there to help if I need it and to send my novel directly back to them once done.
I'm now in the waiting for it to be re-read and seen if they like my changes. It's only been a couple of weeks since re-sending it back so I'm as nervous as a load of cats on hot coals :D

Gabe Gott (gabegott) | 11 comments I'm a grad student and teaching assistant; I study literature and teach English Composition. My short story collection, Tales from the Fringes, is out, and I am also self-publishing my first novel, Out in the Garage, in January. Lately, I have been writing and grading papers, and stress guitar-playing and eating in the process.

Hello and welcome aboard Gabe. You seem very busy! :)

So what's Out in the Garage about?

message 459: by Gabe (new)

Gabe Gott (gabegott) | 11 comments Thank you! I do like to keep myself busy. Out in the Garage is about growing up in a small town and being in a garage band.

A band! That's exactly what I thought it was, I think you playing the guitar gave it away, ;)

Gabe Gott (gabegott) | 11 comments @G.G. Music is an important part of my writing process, whether as a student or otherwise.

@Gabe That's cool since they often say that the first rule of writing is to write about what you know, and you obviously know music. :)

message 466: by Gabe (new)

Gabe Gott (gabegott) | 11 comments I'd like to think so. I know what I know, anyway.

Andrew Flynn (drewisawriter) | 2 comments Hello everyone, I'm Andrew Flynn, please call me Drew. It's cool to be on this forum. I've been a professional writer for seven years now and self-published my first book, "188", on Amazon a couple months ago. bookdrew.com for that. I'm @drewisawriter on Twitter and am currently writing a YA book that'll come out in March 2014. Let's be productive and write more than we talk about writing! {: D

Debbie Herbert | 29 comments Hi everyone,

I'm a fairly new debut author. (Siren's Secret, Harlequin) I write paranormal romance.

I'd love to connect with other writers - published or not. I'm starting my sixth book and it's always scary, I'm always sure the book will NEVER come together. Everything is just a bunch of jumbled scenes.

Does anyone else go through this?

Debbie Herbert

Hello Debbie and welcome.
I haven't written enough books yet to know. So far so good, but to be honest, I'm afraid of the next one. :/

message 476: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Herbert | 29 comments Thanks for the welcome G.G.!

We'll just have to work through the fear. :)

Jevon Knights (jevonknights) Hi Debbie. Sixth book, I think that is excellent. Sounds like you have nothing to fear. I'm now wrapping up my first and a bit nervous about starting my second.

So I'm not alone in my craziness? :)

Congrats on finishing your first book - that is a huge accomplishment.

Hi Debbie welcome aboard ^-^

I'm writing again in my free time and it's only small scenes but the more I write them I feel like it's just going to be continuous

forever ._.

message 481: by April (new)

April Hollingworth | 105 comments Nice to meet you Debbie.
I keep starting and stopping my second book. I've done my research. I know where I'm going......... but I'm nervous about carrying on. So I'm letting anything else get between me and my computer. Granted they are good excuses but I can always find time so they are also pretty rubbish at the same time.
So yeah definitely feel nervous and crazy about writing even though I'm at my most happiest when in the writing process.

LOL I love your 'forever'. That's a bit how I feel with my series at the moment, and that's why I'm still editing #2 instead of writing #3

@April Yep, I'm doing the same. I spend more time checking emails, goodreads etc because they are good excuse not to finish #2, because that would mean I have to start #3 and well...

message 483: by April (new)

April Hollingworth | 105 comments @G.G. ah yes are famous reasons and excuses are long and many.
I've decided to get on with doing some corrections I know I have to do on my second book before I can really start into it.
It's a start at least, is the way I'm thinking about it. Once done I'll start writing in earnest for a couple of days. Then I'll stop because I'm away for Christmas and the New Year. Then I'll write again in between packing as I'm moving the 1st February and need to pack my stuff. I have a lot of things mainly books. I keep buying more books as there are so many talented authors with fantastic stories waiting for me to discover, but its not helpful when I'm buying them before moving :D

message 484: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 1053 comments Mod
Oh good luck with the moving. That's not fun. It only is once it's done and over with.

message 485: by April (new)

April Hollingworth | 105 comments Thanks G.G.
Yeah I'm looking forward to sorting out my book shelves and setting up my computer desk again, the rest not that bothered about as much or at least can wait. Just want to be in my new apartment so can relax and write in comfort of not thinking abvout what needs packing and what I need to get in :D

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 1053 comments Mod
You got your priority right! I agree. Books and computers must always be first!

message 487: by April (new)

April Hollingworth | 105 comments Yep be lost without both of them :D

message 488: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Herbert | 29 comments Last time we moved, DH was not happy with all the boxes of books. :) Good luck with everything, April.

message 489: by April (new)

April Hollingworth | 105 comments Thank you. I think I need it.
I managed to pack up the majority of my books which has taken up a good portion of the spare room but I keep buying more. So I'm causing myself more problems than necessary but I just can't help myself :D

message 490: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Herbert | 29 comments I know what you mean. :)

Thanks for the welcome,
Debbie

Debbie Herbert | 29 comments Hi April,

To me, writing is like exercising. I feel better for having done it -- but don't always enjoy "the process."

Debbie

message 492: by April (new)

April Hollingworth | 105 comments Yes that's true though when I get in my zone time slips away and I find such peace in my writing that I can't understand why I don't get on with it instead of dragging my heals and finding reasons why not to write.
I half wonder if its fear of succeeding that makes me falter since I enjoy the process so much.

message 493: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Herbert | 29 comments Could be, April. Mine's more fear of failure. But, like you, if I keep writing and put away the inner critic, it can be peaceful and uplifting.

message 494: by Jevon (new)

Jevon Knights (jevonknights) Maybe you could try thinking about the scenes in the story that excite you to rev your passion. I have many scenes in my novel I enjoy playing out in my mind that inspires me to keep going.

message 495: by April (new)

April Hollingworth | 105 comments Good point Jevon.
Its so easy to let our fears interrupt our writing process be they fears of succeeding/failure or a bit of both that to keep in mind an aspect of your writing you are inspired by is wonderful.
I know I need music and a screen saver that reflects the novel I'm writing at present to help me get me into my writing process. That I learned from my first book, but yes keeping a scene playing in my head as well...............fantastic. :D

Dianne Astle | 2 comments Thank you for the invitation to join this group. My name is Dianne Astle and In November I published my first novel, a YA fantasy Ben the Dragonborn. It just finished a 10 book giveaway here on Goodreads. I am working on a sequel to Ben the Drqgonborn and have plans on writing a historical fiction based on an ancestor sometime after the sequel is finished. I look forward to getting to know some of the other writers in this group.
