Hello, and welcome to the group Dianne.

message 502: by Cat (new)

Cat Lumb | 7 comments Hey, cheers for the invitation; I'm fairly new to GoodReads and so didn't even know these places existed! :)

I'm currently trying to edit my literary fiction novel called That Which is Left is Lost (which I began in 2011) and hoping to complete the writing of its sequel, That Which is Found (started in 2013).

In the meantime I'm also entering short story competitions to practice my skills!

Looking forward to interacting with others (when I should be editing/writing)!

Take Care, Cat x

As good a reason as any for making a group, and probably better than some!

Well worth watching - ranks up there with Shaun of the Dead, Dead Snow and Wasting Away, I reckon. Another recent (and relatively lesser known) comedy horror to check out, if you haven't seen it, is 'Stitches' (starring Ross Noble) - great film.

John Satisfy | 15 comments Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I'm an erotica author, with a few stories already for sale and I'm trying to write more stories as well. I've been a member of this group for a while, but I haven't posted much if at all and I wanted a proper introduction.

My goal for 2014 is to be more active in writing groups and I from what I've seen there's a lot of talented writers here so how could I not join in the discussion? Thanks

message 523: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 1053 comments Mod
Ahh Erotica from a man's point of view? Interesting! :p I've seen a few discussion groups where they (women) say that they'd loved to read one of these...
Welcome aboard John :)

message 524: by John (new)

John Satisfy | 15 comments Thanks, GG. I'm pretty proud of what I do with the genre and I hope to get others excited with my take on it.

message 525: by Paul (new)

Paul Rockliffe | 2 comments *stands up*

Uh, hi. My name is Paul, and I'm a bookaholic. I suppose my story is a common one; I was first introduced to reading by a 'friend', who lent me my first book for free. Once I was hooked he cut off my supply, telling me that he only had so many books and that I should chill out. I moved onto the harder stuff - hardbacks, trilogies, sagas - but I'll save you the sob story.

I've currently finished the 1st draft of my novel, and although I've struggled with motivation I'm hoping to get it finished in the first half of 2014. It's a comedy fantasy.

April Hollingworth | 105 comments Oh it is and you meet such wonderful people as well. Glad you decided to join us and looking forward to finding out more about your books :D

message 531: by David (new)

David Thirteen (davidjthirteen) I suppose I should have stopped by this thread sooner, but I only just found out about.

I joined the group after seeing one of Bisky's Tweets about it, and I've been a member of Goodreads for a while. I was a bit intimidated to get involved on this site at first, but this seems like a really good group of people.

About me: After a long hiatus I have gotten back to writing. What started off a as a lark one day, has ignited into a consuming passion. Currently, I'm writing a serialized horror thriller on Wattpad and I'm editing a sci-fi novel that I plan on self-publishing later on this year. I don't really have a specific genre, I just try and release the stories from the prison of my skull.

I'm very happy to be a part of this group, and I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you better.

Welcome to the group David.
I might be bias, but I agree with you: This is the BEST group and the EASIEST one to start actively 'Goodreads'ing' (Is that a word???).

I love scifi by the way, (and horror too!).

message 533: by David (new)

David Thirteen (davidjthirteen) Thanks for the welcome @G.G.

Ha! Yes that "s" on the end makes Goodreads a little harder to turn into a verb than other web services, but I think it's allowable :)

The that made me happy G.G :p youre allowed to be bias :3

Welcome, welcome David. Good luck with the editing! I'm thinking about starting a serial on Wattpad, how do you find the site/community there? :3

message 535: by April (new)

April Hollingworth | 105 comments Nice to meet you David and welcome to the wonderful world of Bisky's fabulous Introductions. As G.G. said this is the best group for meeting wonderful new authors of all genres who adore reading. Looking forward to finding out more about your novels best of luck :D

message 536: by David (new)

David Thirteen (davidjthirteen) @April, it's very nice to meet you too! Thank you!

And thank you @Bisky! I always look forward to your Tweets throughout the day.

I have had a great experience with Wattpad. It was really the first time I had people who weren't friends or family reading my work and I was expecting some harsh criticism. Instead, I received lots of support and very constructive pointers to improve my writing. I have grown a lot since I first started posting there. The site is not for everyone, however, and I think some people get frustrated by the majority of the users being teenagers interested in boy bands. But there are some serious readers and writers there, if you look for them. I do find that you get out of it, what you put into it (I guess a lot of things in life are like that). There are some very good authors with only a handful of reads, because they keep to themselves instead of getting involved.

If you have any questions I will be very happy to try and answer them.

message 537: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Herbert | 29 comments David,
I know you can't copy/paste on Wattpad - but don't you worry about plagarism? I'm probably too paranoid. :)
Debbie

message 538: by David (new)

David Thirteen (davidjthirteen) @Debbie,
One of the reasons I went with Wattpad was that they do try and protect your copyright. When you post on the site, you have an option to say it is an original work owned by you, and they log the text and the date into their database. Should you ever need to, you get the data from them and use it as proof of ownership. This still doesn't prevent a determined person from copying your work, but if you're posting on the web it's about the best you can do.

Also, I have heard of some shared writing sites where getting your work copied and put up under another writer's name is common. I won't say that it doesn't happen on Wattpad, but if it does, it would seem to be very rare.

message 539: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Herbert | 29 comments That's marvelous Wattpad tries to offer some protection. Thanks for the info, David!

Ross Gilfillan (rossgil) | 37 comments Hi,

I'm Ross and I read mainly Victorian and contemporary fiction and write novels which are the sort of thing I'd like to read. With a family, a dog and a full time job, I write in early mornings and in little windows here and there. This is the first literary forum I've joined since the days of Compuserve in the 90's. I like to talk writing so...
