Hi all,

Scotty here. After finally unraveling that Gordian Knot called formatting, I published my book, Peter Pan the Avenger. It's my response to the various Peter Pan sequels and prequel's out there that--whether good or bad--are not faithful to the ending of Barrie's great work. Hook and Tink are gone and done for and Peter doesn't even remember them, so let's move on and see how he fares in the age of technology.
There, I'm pretty sure there's nothing kinky or spammy in this post, just a few things kooky.

Hello and welcome aboard Scott.
I'm sure your book will be popular. Fairytale Retelling is strong these days.

Lol, Hi Scott. Welcome aboard. I agree with G.G, and I like books that stay true to the original authors ideas.

Ben Adams (ben_adams) | 9 comments Hello all, I am Ben Adams. I am currently working on my debut book, 'six months to get a life' - part romcom, part farce, part unclassifiable! I am a real novice when it comes to all things Goodreads but I am really enjoying looking through the various discussions within this group.

Ann Thorrson (ann_thorrson) | 2536 comments Mod
Hi Ben, welcome aboard! I never know how to classify anything so I just usually end up making my own :p

message 865: by Jason (new)

Jason Chapman | 1 comments I'm a scifi writer from Abergavenny South Wales, about to release the second in a trilogy of novels in the Summer. I was a huge fan of the X Files back in the day. I don't think there are enough UFO conspiracy novels flying around, its all about vampires or Game of Thrones these days.

message 866: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 1053 comments Mod
HI Ben Welcome aboard! Classification is a pain. Especially when you write something different than then everyone else. As for GR, if you have any problems/question, I'm sure one of us can/will try to help you out. Never be afraid to ask any questions. :)

And Hello Jason, welcome aboard! I'm with you there. Not enough UFO/Alien stories. I used to love the show Project UFO (the show where a team would investigate UFO and always end up with stuff like weather balloon etc.)

message 867: by Claire (new)

Claire (cycraw) | 278 comments Hi Ben. The advice I've seen from agents is to pick one category, usually the biggest one, and classify your books as such. So if you're writing romance with horror and perhaps some paranormal too, find the biggest category and classify your book as such. But obviously, you need to do this wisely. Because if for instance romance is the strongest category but the only thing in your book close to romance is that there's a couple in it, you shouldn't classify it as such.

Clodagh Phelan (goodreadscomclodagh_phelan) | 10 comments Hello Bisky and everyone. I'm new here. This was the second group I joined but I haven't been active as I've been busy creating new website and struggling with all things Kindle. I have two books ready to go. In the first one my characters are caught up in a (real) fire that happened in the tube/subway in London. I always have a problem with the genre - it's sort of ghost, definitely urban, sort of mystery. I can't say too much without spoiling the twists :)

message 870: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 1053 comments Mod
Hey Clodagh, welcome aboard!
You don't say much but enough to catch my attention. Define the genre is always problematic. I think most authors struggle with that. When are you publishing?

Tyra Brown | 2 comments Hi my name is Tyra. I wrote a book with a good friend of mine, Ciaira and we literally just finished it today. It's certainly for teenagers, yet it contains curse words, drug use and underage drinking. But believe it or not, it's about high school. Haha.
It's also our take on the next generation.

It's an adult epic fantasy tale. While I wait for word on my submissions, I am working on the second novel in the series, as well as two other stories going through my head (one MG fantasy and one horror).

Stephen West (stephenwest) | 1 comments Hi all, Stephen here, I've completed one YA SF (non-dystopian!) book already and am in the process of writing the sequel and another completely different book (sort of historical fantasy) at the same time which may not be the best idea but I feel too guilty if I neglect one of them...

Anyway, hi!

J. Allen (jcallen) Hello! I be new here. I'm a voracious reader and relatively new to professional writing (one short story sold to a magazine). I'm currently working on a linked pair of fantasy novels, my first of any great length; it's interesting, difficult, all at the same time!

E.J. Frost (ejfrost) | 3 comments Hi, thanks for the invite! I've written a sci-fi romance, Snowburn, that I self-published earlier this year. I'm working on a sequel that should be ready by October/November, and then turning to an urban-fantasy set in Boston.
I'll lurk a bit at first to get the feel of this group, but in the meanwhile don't hesitate to friend me, message if you need something, etc. I always try reciprocate.
-Em
