Introductions!

I go by Elsie and have written a YA paranormal that should be out next spring (2014) from Curiosity Quills. It's called The Undead. (necromancy meets high school romance.)
My next project, once I complete my book cover copy (who knew that would be so difficult), is a fairy tale retelling from NaNoWriMo.
Thanks for the invite :) Honored and excited :)
Hello and welcome aboard Elsie.
Yeah book cover hunting/creating is harder than it looks, but the result is most likely fun!

It's no problem James. We're happy to have you with us. :) There are many ways to make your work known. Explore the threads and I am sure you'll see what I mean.
BTW I am intrigue by a book where the reader is the protagonist. I've read a few of those a long time ago and loved it.

@James, hi! And welcome aboard. Stupid Goodreads takes ages to update.
Hi Elsie! That sounds exciting! I'm really interested how your publishing goes with Curiosity Quills. They contacted me but I couldn't find out much about them :3 Your book sounds so cute! ^-^ In a brain noming kind of way :3

I'm thinking that Ereaders must have made those interactive books easier to navigate too with the one click choice.
I'm very interested in how children's books can evolve like that too, a less irritating dora the explorer? :p

Exactly. That's why I call my series Click Your Poison. No need to flip pages!
I used to cheat with flipping... check the beginning of both choices and then decide. /blush
But with books, I always went and check the ending before anything else. I find it hard to read ebooks because it's not as easy to flip through pages. :P

Thanks for the invite to the group. Looking forward to it!
Best....Sutton

Yeah, I think it has cut down on cheating quite a bit... But even if you had the paperback, the ending is hidden somewhere in the middle (I'm not making it that easy!).
@Sutton LOL well, you can mention it still. The kinky part will be left to those who are going to go check your author page to see what you're talking about.
(You piqued my curiosity and I had to go see. :P )
Oh and welcome aboard!

@James I could still cheat and check both choices before choosing... Mouhahahahhaha (That's supposed to be an evil laugh by the way...)
I think you will peak a lotof interest with that vague and intriging post there Sutton :p Well done.
Welcome aboard ;D
Welcome aboard ;D

My names J.C. McKenzie and I write Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance (www.jcmckenzie.com). My debut novel, Shift Happens, will be published by The Wild Rose Press in Spring, 2014.
Thanks for inviting me to your group. I look forward to meeting everyone and discussing what we all love--books and writing!

I'm Janna, and currently, I'm working on (for far too long now!) a historical fiction novel set in medieval England. I've never published or been published, but I hope to do one or the other or both one of these days.
Hi J.C welcome aboard. Good luck with your book :3
Hi Janna :D Good luck with finishing your writing :3 I hope you'll enjoy the group. GoodReads can be a pain to get used to but its quite fun ^-^

Name's Josh and I'm writing short stories and some flash fiction. So far it's been mostly erotica, lately I'm working more on something else I like - post-apocalypse sci-fi.
I also like to talk a lot about the process of writing, especially from a "geeky" point of view, of you guys are curious you can always ask me or find my blog under my profile :)
I was asleep ^-^one day i might move to a more appropriate timezone ._.
Welcome to the group Josh :3 I hope you find it geeky enough ^-^

I'm self-publishing my first book in the spring. I love sci-fi and fantasy, and I recently started blogging spec fiction book reviews. (Phew, more work/stress than I realized it would be.)
Oh, and I'm also into horror lately, except I'm very, VERY particular about the horror I like. Nothing gory, only creepy, stuff that makes me all shivery scared and that's not lame. I'm a connoisseur, not picky, right?
Woah! I missed that discussion it seems... Well hello and welcome aboard J.C., Janna, Josh, and Samantha!
We're glad to have you with us! (I hope I didn't miss anyone!)

Hey Samantha, I also like shivering/thrilling horror rather than gory stuff. I don't even know if what I write actually qualifies as horror ^^ but it's certainly gothic.

Little late to the party; I've been around for a short while but haven't posted here yet. Making up for that now!
I'm a newly self-published author from Ontario, Canada, and my debut science fiction novel, The Calypsis Project, is just about ready to hit the shelves! The editing is nearly complete; I've been releasing the story in episodes of approx. 95 pages on Kindle leading up to the release of the full book later this month. c:
I'm also a digital artist and a super enthusiastic gamer! I draw mostly stuff related to my novel or other personal projects, but I dabble in other areas as well--such as fan art. :D
Hey! Welcome aboard Brittany! And good luck with your new release. :) What game(s) are you playing if I may ask?

Though, most of the time I stick to science fiction games such as Halo, Mass Effect, and Dead Space. Those have got to be my top three. :)
I've heard of Halo, Mass Effect but not Dead Space. I've played Skyrim too although I'm having a little difficulties with the commands. I'm too used to Rift and World of Warcraft easy mode, but my hubby is a fan of Skyrim he also bought the collector's edition with all the expansions and the older games.

Dead Space is amazing, but kind of terrifying. It's a sci-fi horror game that's just filled with darkness and jump scares. Also regenerating monsters, which I find to be quite scary when you're trying to run away from them!
Rift . . . I recall hearing about that game a couple of times. How is it? :3
Hubby bought the collector's edition the day it came out. Best buy didn't even have it on its shelves yet, they had to fetch it out of the shipping boxes. yet he hasn't played any expansion yet. At least I don't think so, but he spends his spare time between Skyrim and Rift. Rift is fun. It's a lot like World of Warcraft, but I grew tired of it. I only do PVP now.
Dead Space sounds scary. I'm getting too old for games. I jump at anything they throw at me!

Hello Janna :) Mine's a Sci-fi with paranormal or fantasy... I hate having to classify stories.
I hear you when you say too long... I worked on mine for over 3 years before finally publishing but I admit I also wrote the sequel during that time. Anything to push back the publishing date. I was too nervous.
How far in are you? Done with the draft? or still in the drafting work? Have you decided yet if you are going to self pup (amazon or SW or another?) or try the hard way?
It might not be the place to ask, but I always wonder what exactly is a historical fiction? Does it mean the setting is base in the real events of that time with fictional characters? (Forgive me for being ignorant. And please don't laugh at me... for a long time I thought the people in Camelot had once existed for real except for Merlin... /blush)

Hello guys :D Welcome aboard. I want to read back through this thread, so many video games being mentioned. But my internet is on and off because of the storm. I feel so naked without it :[

Thank you for the invite Bisky :-)
Twitter is good for your eyesight!
That's what I try to convince myself anyway.
*adjusts glasses*
Welcome aboard! :D

Don't let anyone tell you it's not good for your health! I mean, they will also tell you TV is not good and neither are video games.
They'll try to tell you that sports are healthy... well hit them with a baseball and let's see what they'll say after that! Duh!
Welcome aboard Jan! :)

I’m currently hard at work on part two, which I’ve been working on for nearly two years now. I’m probably in the last quarter of it, but I’m a slow writer and work full time, so I only have a couple of hours a day to devote to it.
I’m not sure what publication path I’ll take. I’m definitely open to self-publishing, but part of me wants to at least try querying it to see what the response is. If it’s a response I don’t like, I could always go ahead and self-pub anyway, right? And it’s not like the time it would take to query would be wasted; I’d just write another book, which could actually help me in the long run with self-publishing (the best way to get the word out about self-pubbed books is to have lots of them).
What is historical fiction? That’s not a bad question at all; I’m still trying to figure it all out myself. I never set out to write historical. In its earliest iteration, my WIP was fantasy, then I changed my mind midway through (oh, isn’t editing going to be fun!)
As I understand it, historical fiction is much like you say, with the setting based in real events. Some HF center has real people from history as the main characters (e.g. the works of Philippa Gregory) while other has fictional characters. I prefer the type with fictional characters, which is what I’m writing. I also understand that “history” is defined as at least 50 years before the current time, so the 80s would be considered historical but the 60s would.
I’m starting to get more into reading and watching sci-fi paranormal/fantasy, especially that which seems like it could really happen. Do you write for adults or YA?
P.S. I think I heard they found evidence that King Arthur did exist (or at least someone upon whom the legend of Arthur was based), although this person lived in a much earlier time then the Dark Ages.
Hello Jayra :] Welcome aboard, this website needs some getting used to but it's really great once you get the hang of it ^-^
@Janna Nothing wrong with trying the traditional way first. I didn't because I don't feel like I am 'author material'. I'm writing this series. I have ideas but like you, I'm slow and I'm afraid an agent and a publisher might just be too pushy for me. I write adult, although my sister in law says she'd let her son read it if he were at least 16, so I guess the sex scene isn't too explicit. :P
Historical with fictional characters seems a lot more appealing as you can play with them while the real ones, you have to stick with the truth, and what better years than medieval! I think you've got a winner. :)
(and editing? bah it's ALWAYS fun! no kidding. I love editing maybe more than writing.)

Hello and welcome aboard Jevon! Fantasy's a good genre. I have nothing against it. :P
Good luck with your novel! Don't forget to join in the other threads and talk about your characters or title etc. (That goes for everyone of course!)

I have decided to go down the road of finding a publishing house which entailed researching. Go figure. To start off as I don't have an agent I had to research what publishing houses take unsolicited authors and from there narrow it down to my genre. Paranormal fantasy with aspects of romance. Which means I can send it to some romance publishing houses. I had quite a few No Thanks and one interest. I just had to do a lot of editing as I had made some mistakes. My novel is set in the present from the main characters point of view. Sometimes I would write as if something that was happening had happened and skipped to other peoples view points. These things I had to correct and the send it back again. So fingers crossed I'll be offered a contract.
My point is "No" doesn't mean stop trying, someone out there will like your books you just have to find the right one. I'm hoping I have found mine.
Chat soon and best of luck to everyone :D

I keep my rejections as part of my learning curve which also makes interest that much more awesome when received. Best of luck to you as well Jevon.
