Literary Horror discussion

Hi everyone, I'm Traci. I'm a reader and writer interested in a variety of genres. I especially like books that draw me in and make me think long after I've read the last page.

I've spent the last few years doing more research and writing than reading for pure enjoyment (it's especially hard for me to read for fun when I'm editing). So, I'm looking forward to learning some of your favorites and discovering new books to love.

Hi everyone! I'm Quentin, a horror author and a fan of all things horror. I joined the group and actually finished The Halloween Tree tonight and then realized I hadn't introduced myself yet, so I wanted to say hello to all fellow group members.

What's up, my name is Dan. I love Horror...mostly monsters. Vampires, werewolves, zombies, demons, Frankenstein's monster...and so on. I'm just such a creature geek. Vampires are my favorite though, even though they've gotten a bad rap over the past ten years (fuck Twilight!!!). What else...oh...I'm a die-hard Stephen King fan. Also love Edgar Allan Poe a lot. I love Horror short stories. I think every Horror fan should read Great Tales of Terror and the Supernatural and Dark Forces: New Stories of Suspense and Supernatural Horror as far as the Horror short story goes. As for the Horror novel, you've got to read Dracula and Frankenstein obviously. I took an English class in college called "Horror: From Mary Shelley to Stephen King", so I learned a lot about the Horror genre from that.

As far as movies and TV go I am-as I said-a creature geek. I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. The X-Files was awesome. I love The Walking Dead and can't wait for the premiere tomorrow. As for Horror movies, I don't even know where to begin. Monsters, Slashers, Ghosts...if it's Horror I'll give it a try. In my opinion, the three best Horror movies are Jeepers Creepers, People Under The Stairs and The Exorcist. I know this is "Literary Horror", but I felt I just couldn't go into talking about my love of Horror without going into film and television a little bit.

Anyway, I look forward to being a member of this group. If anyone wants to talk, throw me a book suggestion, etc., feel free to do so.

Hi, my name's Mark. Great to meet everyone. My own personal favourite literary horror reads are Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and virtually anything by Poe.

Hi! I'm a horror writer and reader. I love the classics mostly and I prefer prose or comics to movies. My favorite horror author is Clive Barker. I started my Goodreads account in 2013 but got too busy to hang out much. However, I want to become a more active member of this community now :)

Hello! I just wanted to take a moment to say hi to everyone. My name is Chris, though I actually do have a few friends who call me "C"--it's not just an abbreviation for online use, etc. Call me whatever feels comfortable.

I'm a life-long Horror fan--from the pulpiest of the pulp to the high-brow stuff, or as high as it goes, I suppose. My specialty area in the world of Horror is Weird Fiction/Cosmic Horror (of the Lovecraftian sort).

I also have an interest in Critical Theory, specifically Queer Theory and Lacanian applications in film and Lit. I have taught English to adults for a very long time and also work as a Technical Writer/Editor, freelance. Due to occasional flares of SLE, I alternate time in the classroom with work from home, and I'm in a "home" part of the cycle right now in order to recuperate from a recent one.

I am a long-suffering (mostly self-torture, honestly) writer and poet with an inability to show much of it to anyone. :) I suspect that's more than anyone cared to know. I'll apologize if I'm too wordy. It's nice to meet anyone who'd like to "talk books."

I've only just found this group after resolving to read much more in 2015 than previous years. I'd love to take part in the January 2015 reading challenge as I've been meaning to read The Lottery for a while. I might play catch up but I don't think I'll finish it by the end of the month!

I'm a big fan of horror (both in books and elsewhere) and I'd love to take recommendations from you all here.
