Melanie | 151 comments Hi all - I know that a couple of us are reading this, so I thought I would get a thread started for it. Thoughts? First impressions so far?

Marieke | 2459 comments i haven't gotten very far but i like it. i thought the introduction was really informative without being dry and boring. i also like the mother-daughter dynamic and can't help but wonder if they'll be friends at the end of the trek...lol.
sometimes i feel like the narrative moves a little slowly but then the author writes something that makes me chuckle so any slowness is totally forgiven on my part.

Andrea | 622 comments My copy came in today, so I will trek down to the library and get it. This group is really encouraging me to be physically active running to the library and back!

Katrina (katrinasreads) My copy hasn't arrived at the library yet, hopefully not too long

Marieke | 2459 comments oh--i also wanted to remark on dervla murphy's vocabulary...i've had to look up some words...

Melanie | 151 comments I am a little over half way through. To be honest, I was a little bored at first, but then got into the grove of it and really like it now.

Andrea | 622 comments I'm a little over halfway now. Some of Murphy's views of Africans, esp. early in the book seem a little simplistic, but she is very observant. I like that they are taking their time, more interested in people than itineraries. I also really didn't know much about the geopgraphy of Cameroon, so I'm finding the description interesting.

Alexis Grant (alexisgrant) | 1 comments Glad you had this discussion because I had never heard of this book before! Must check it out. Thanks!

Marieke | 2459 comments Hi Alexis, let us know when you've read it. i thought we had more of a discussion here, but i guess not. i enjoyed the book...i got very attached to Egbert.

Andrea | 622 comments Yes, I'd like to discuss this book more too, and I can get it back through interlibrary loan if we decide to continue.
