Alright... my dad used to read this to me when I was a kid and it is his book. He is about 50 years old. All I remember about the book is that these animals chased each other through town. It was something like the boy chased something which caused the dog to chase the cat and it was a chain reaction. I forget how the book ended though.

I do believe that's an old folktale and there are many versions. I remember that from when I was young too.Here's the version I know:
