Heather | 571 comments Count me in... Starting at the end of May sounds good to me. Then I can make it my holiday read!!!

message 502: by [deleted user] (new)

Me! Me! I have nominated it twice and so sad it has never made it. I also want to read Kakfa on The Shore so I'm pleased that won but I would love to join a readalong.

End of May sounds great. I'm on holiday then as well, Heather!

Sounds like this is going to be a good readalong! I'll set it up for the end of May, but we can be quite relaxed about it, if some want to read it early or later.

Great! I will add it to both the May & June readalong lists.

Gill | 5719 comments Okay, I'll see if I can get it for my kindle. If I can I'll join you all for the read of NYT.

Edited To add, okay I'm in! I'm looking forward to it.

Read it too many times to pick it up again. But it's definitly a great book. Enjoy

message 508: by Gill (new)

Gill | 5719 comments I've decided I'd like to read/re-read some novels by Carol Shields, probably from mid-July or August. Would anyone like to join me in this? I was thinking people could choose whichever book they fancied, rather than it being a specific book.

Sandy and Pink, I know it's not quite June yet, but should I create the thread for the Giovanni's Room readalong? I'm greatly looking forward to it!

message 510: by Pink (new)

Pink Yep, sounds good to me too Greg. I'm so looking forward to this one.

message 511: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 543 comments Till, I've always meant to read Shields and I think I have something by her lying around. I will try, but my reading plans often go south quickly depending on Kait's moods.

message 512: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments I'm thinking of reading Home by Marilynne Robinson - I know Jenny and Laura said they were interested, too. Shall we set up a readalong, if so - when? I was thinking of July?

message 513: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments July would work for me Shirley!

Strange, I just came across this book yesterday and added it to my tbr, but am I right in thinking this continues on from Gilead, or uses the same place and characters? I won't be joining your readalong in July, but it would be good to know for the future if this one can be read alone.

Gill | 5719 comments Pink wrote: "Shirley wrote: "I'm thinking of reading Home by Marilynne Robinson - I know Jenny and Laura said they were interested, too. Shall we set up a readalong, if so - when? I..."

I read them in the back to front order, Pink, and that worked fine for me. I preferred Home.

message 517: by Pink (new)

Pink Oh that's good to know Gill, as I preferred the sound of this one. Thanks :)

message 518: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments Excellent, I will ask Leslie to add to the upcoming readalongs. Pink, hope you enjoy reading both Gilead and Home - you can still join us for Home if you want?

message 519: by Pink (new)

Pink I will if I have time in July. Thanks Shirley :)

message 520: by Gill (new)

Gill | 5719 comments Is anybody intending to read Seiobo There Below? I'm astonished to see that my library is going to get a digital copy of this, and I'm first on the waiting list for it. I'm not sure that it's going to be a feel-good read though.

message 521: by Cathie (last edited Jun 07, 2015 08:25AM) (new)

Cathie (cathiebp2) | 653 comments Gill, I have it on my tbr shelf. Laszlo for me was a challenge with War & War, but find this one quite interesting. When were you planning to read?

message 522: by Gill (new)

Gill | 5719 comments Well I'm not sure Cathie. It looks on the library website as if they've ordered the e-copy, but it's not reached them yet (same for Satantango). So I'm hoping they'll have it soon and I can get started. When does it suit you?

message 523: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (cathiebp2) | 653 comments I will submit request from my library...thinking July, but let's see when the book is received. Hope others would like to read as well.

I am! I am not sure if I can manage July, but let me know when you start, I will see if I can get hold of a copy.

message 526: by Gill (new)

Gill | 5719 comments Ooh, Jenny, I thought if I mentioned an obscure to me mid-European author you'd be along soon!

message 527: by [deleted user] (new)

It sounds interesting. Will see if I can join as I'm looking for lots to read in July.

On that note, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan didn't win our July group read poll but I will still be reading it. If anybody wants to join in, let me know

message 528: by Colleen (new)

Colleen | 353 comments Snow Flower was such a great book!

message 529: by Pink (new)

Pink I've just started reading How to be both if anyone is interested in joining me. I'll be finished soon, but it would be good to discuss this book no matter which month.

I really like the one I've just read by him, so I will gladly read another.

I'd love to try this but am a bit over committed at the moment - but would like to discuss once I get to it! I think her books are good for discussion.

Ditto, Pink. I'm not sure when I'll get to it though.

message 533: by Pink (new)

Pink Shirley and Gill, I'm exactly the same. I'd really like to join in with the readalongs of Home and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan but I won't have time. I won't set up a read along for How to be both as everyone seems a bit over committed right now, but perhaps you can read and discuss it later.

message 534: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (cathiebp2) | 653 comments I received my copy of Seiobo There Below by László Krasznahorkai . It's a pretty thick read, in small print, with Krasznahorkai's-signature long paragraphs.

With other reads for the rest of the month, I can begin sometime in July.

message 535: by Gill (new)

Gill | 5719 comments OK, who's up for a Readalong of Ulysses?, starting in January 2016, to be completed by Bloomsday, June 16th. Angela and I are having withdrawal symptoms from the last Readalong of this book, so are re-reading it next year. Everyone is welcome, it was much more fun last time than I expected!

If I can keep my copy out from the library, I'll join you then, Cathy. I'll see if that works ok at the end of this month.

message 537: by [deleted user] (new)

I will think about it, Gill. I definitely want to read this in my lifetime and with an enthusiastic group sounds best. It depends if I can fit it in next year

message 538: by Angela M (new)

I've got it as an ebook from the library Cathie. I can only keep it out for 3 weeks, but I may be able to renew it. I've got other stuff I need to finish reading before I start it.

message 541: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (cathiebp2) | 653 comments Okay. Hope you can renew - I'm not even sure 3 weeks will be enough! This will be fun!

message 542: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 130 comments I have been thinking of finally tackling Ulysses, but would like to read it [more like would need to read it] with a group. Good to know you are thinking of reading it!

Me! You know I'll join you and Angela in this, Gill. :D

ETA: I think I'll fit The Odyssey into my reading before January, too. It's been a few years since I've read this and it can only help with the connections, I think.

I knew you'd be along, Petra! See what you started last year! Yes, I read the Odyssey earlier this year.

Gill | 5719 comments Heather wrote: "I will think about it, Gill. I definitely want to read this in my lifetime and with an enthusiastic group sounds best. It depends if I can fit it in next year"

Most of it was a much easier read than I expected, Heather. We are certainly enthusiastic!

LOL! Blame Angela. She mentioned wanting to read it and I just jumped on the bandwagon to coax her along since I wanted a reread. Hahaha....look where we are now! :D

message 548: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Haha , there's enough blame to go around ! I didn't think I'd be interested in reading it again but I think I got excited when I realized it was June 16th the other day. Yes , on your spoiler, Petra . We won't tell them !

I was planning to read it in July on a trip, but I could push it to august.

message 550: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 130 comments I have a question for those of you who have already read Ulysses: is it important, or necessary, to read the Odyssey first?
