Diane S ☔ I will as well.

Caecilia Saori -- Anyone interested in reading What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours (the new Helen Oyeyemi book) with me? :-)

I am currently reading Girl Through Glass, but could make room for it in approximately one week from now - mid/late March.

I need an audiobook. I have trouble with Librivox on my Ipod and I want good narration.

Yep, I am fine with both Sir Harry Hotspur and Dr. Wortle's School Both are available at Audible. The second might be my preference simply because I know that Timothy West does a great narration. Also the second one has a higher rating and more readers. I am fine with either.

Thank you, Leslie, for specifying all the different alternatives.

I hope which ever is chosen it turns out to be a good one. I hope it has the amusing lines that I have so appreciated in the other Trollope books I have read.

So when does it fit all you to read a Trollope book if it isn't long? Do we have to have a thread for it? Please, if we have a thread set it up so we can see how each of us rate the book when finished. I think you have to have the book title mentioned at the top of the thread. Greg said something about that before.

Chrissie So what has been decided about the reading of a short stand-alone novel by Trollope?

Which book, when and who wants to join in?

Leslie's suggestion were great. I vote for Dr. Wortle's School but am fine with Sir Harry Hotspur Of Humblethwaite too.

If I may say my desire, it'd be Sir Harry Hotspur Of Humblethwaite: I've not read it!

message 708: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Laura, I wasn't aware you had read Dr. Wortle's School. I am fine with Sir Harry Hotspur Of Humblethwaite too.The more of us who read, the better.

message 709: by Chrissie (last edited Mar 14, 2016 03:00AM) (new)

Chrissie Laura, I just checked your books to see the rating you gave Dr. Wortle's School. It is not listed. Have you read it? Or maybe it is not available to you, and that is why you prefer the other?

message 710: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ I'm in and either one will be fine with me.

No I read it, but years ago so it's not listed here in goodreads.
I liked it, even if I find Trollope gives his best in long novels. But I love him anyway! So I'd rather read Sir Harry Hotspur Of Humblethwaite

message 712: by Pink (new)

Pink Yes, I'm in for either Sir Harry, or Dr Wortle, no preference either way and I can start anytime.

Thanks for explaining, Laura. I would not want to reread a book either.

I am fine with Humblethwaite!

message 714: by Chrissie (last edited Mar 14, 2016 05:56AM) (new)

Chrissie Great. We have at least five who want to read Humblethwaite.

Say when. I will stick it in anywhere.

Anyone interested in joining me in reading The Good Soldier by Ford Madox Ford? I'm reading a few lighter books and craving something literary to throw in the mix that's not a huge commitment in terms of length. This book has been on my mental to-read list long before Goodreads.

Do you think April or May would work better Leslie? There are a couple people possibly interested in Reading for Pleasure in April or May. I could call a buddy read there - I think you're part of that group too? :)

message 726: by Jim (new)

Jim Townsend | 238 comments Good morning!

If I ramble, please forgive me.

I have four books on my currently reading list and would like to read a fifth that I started on December 22, 2015 but never finished. Having just finished The Historian last night at 10:26 PM American EDT, I am currently on page 548 of the 1,276-page Penguin edition of The Count of Monte Cristo, which I began on 16th January 2016 (between work and running around with my fiancée, I have little time to read). I am also reading O Pioneers!; Tess of the d'Urbervilles and The Mammoth Book Of Vampires.

The book that I never finished at the end of last year was Les Misérables, and will restart it, hopefully in April. Would anyone like to join me?

Jim

Myst | 494 comments Wow Jim, looks like you like really long books.

I would try to join in on Les Mis, but I'm going to be reading The Woman in White and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame which will be enough long books for a bit.

message 728: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments Myst, a gentle reminder to use titles rather than covers here. Thanks.

Leslie | 16369 comments Is there any interest in reading the Proust series In Search of Lost Time (À la recherche du temps perdu), reading a book every other month, starting next year?

I've already read them all some years ago, but one every other month could be interesting: those are books you need to read more than once!

message 733: by Jim (new)

Jim Townsend | 238 comments Maybe. All I've heard about the Proust book is that it's really long.

Petra | 3324 comments Jim wrote: "Maybe. All I've heard about the Proust book is that it's really long."

It is long but over a year, it's very do-able. It's not hard reading; it's really quite serene.
I've read the first book. The writing is lovely and the characters are so unique and interesting. Some segments are really funny, too. I will look forward to rereading it along with this group and continuing with the rest of the books.

message 737: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 69 comments Yes, I would also be interested. I've been reading the My Struggle series by Karl Ove Knausgård that has frequently been compared to the Proust books and I'd like to find out if the comparison is true or not!

message 738: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I read the first one. It was OK, so I gave it two stars. To any French person you are supposed to say you love them.

message 739: by John (new)

John Frankham (johnfrankham) I'd like to join in the Proust too if it gets off the ground, please.

message 740: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments I'm glad to see the interest! I have been putting off reading these and think doing an organized readalong will be a big help.

message 741: by John (new)

John Frankham (johnfrankham) Likewise. I have a nice four-volume Everyman's Library hardback version from 2001 (Millenium Edition) just waiting to be opened!

But, as and when .......

message 742: by Alice (new)

Alice Poon (alice_poon) Swann's Way has been on my to-read list for a long time. I've always wanted to try Proust. Next year sounds good :)

message 743: by Pink (new)

Pink Leslie wrote: "I'm glad to see the interest! I have been putting off reading these and think doing an organized readalong will be a big help."

Yes, there's probably no chance of me attempting it on my own, but a readalong might give me the push!
