I am interested though life may put a kibosh on my plans. I thought I had kept my Latin/English version from school but I can't find it so I have downloaded a version.

I would prefer a slow to moderate pace.

I would have never immagined that someone could really be interested in reading Virgil!!!! I had to read it - as all Italians have to, at least those attending a grammar school. But it is definitly - at least in my opinion - to be compared to Omer's works.
I'll follow with keen interest a discussion on this, but I'm definitly not going to pick it up again!!!

message 903: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments I think that I will join you Beth but, instead of rereading my copy, getting the Robert Fagles translation from the library.

message 904: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments Beth -- I picked up my copy of the Fagles' translation of The Aeneid from the library yesterday so I am ready to start whenever you are. Have you started a readalong thread for it?

I hope so too. It requires commitment especially because of it's volume so I hope someone else wants to read it too.

message 910: by dely (new)

dely | 5214 comments I have already read it. Don't be scared of the lenght of the book, it is more flowing as you think. I had only some problems with a couple of parts dedicated to the battles because they were boring for me.
I hope you will find a buddy-reader, otherwise, as said, don't be afraid of the lenght.

message 911: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Raul, I read it as a group read in another GR group, and I agree that having someone reading along helps a lot. I was intimidated, too, but it was easier that way. The group was an Italian one, otherwise I would have given you the link to the discussion. I hope someone wants to read with you!

message 912: by Raul (new)

Raul | 745 comments Thank you for the advice dely and Marina :)

message 913: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) Raul- I am interested in reading it but probably not until January! When are you wanting to start it - now? I’m committed to getting through the Lord of the Rings and Don Quixote first. There is just not enough time to read everything! Sigh...the life of a book addict.

Raul, If you would like to read it with a group, The Great American Read GR group just started reading it this month.

message 915: by Raul (new)

Raul | 745 comments Pam – Thank you a lot of the group read recommendation but I can't start reading the book this month. I have found a partner to help me read so I think I'll be fine. Thanks a lot and good readings.

Can someone explain how to set up a separate thread for this book?

message 925: by Petra (last edited Aug 30, 2019 08:49AM) (new)

Petra | 3324 comments Nidhi and Connie, here's a link to our past 3 readalongs of Ulysses: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... .
We had a terrific discussion and there are a lot of good references listed.
I'm sure many will drop in to comment and perhaps read a specific episode when you comment in the thread.

I'm looking forward to both your thoughts & ideas of this read.

I have too much on my plate at the moment but maybe others would be interested. What sort of book is it? A brief description might help folks decide.

message 943: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 236 comments the Wave by Todd Strasser. This is 135 pg and YA.

This story is so important with what has happened lately. It is an experiment that happened in California when kids couldn’t believe people followed Nazi. COVID is bad but how do we prevent the thinking that humanity in trouble many times throughout history.
