Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) No problem Becca. I'm glad you are apart of it and this will be a lot of fun. I just had to write down who was all doing the city of bones read along with me so far. I can't wait to do my poe collection read along and everyone is welcome to join in with me on that one too when I do it 20th-31st of October for All Hallows read on Halloween. If anyone wants to read under the dome with me in November, they can too.

message 52: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Good luck with reading the Shining coming up for your All Hallows read readalong Becca! ^_^

message 53: by [deleted user] (new)

@Amber - Thank you :-) And thanks for the luck, I will probably need it - I'm a bit of a wimp haha! I may read Under The Dome, depending on how much time I have. I meant to watch the series but I forgot, will need to go online and catch up.

message 54: by Amber (last edited Aug 30, 2013 02:51PM) (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) No prob Becca. I'm going to finish watching Under the Dome TV show but they already veered away from the book and going to do a 2nd season next Summer. My mom's been watching it too with me and she says the stuff they added to it is not in the book. So I'm going to wait until November to read it as it is one of the last 2 Stephen king books I'll read for the year besides Doctor sleep which I'll try to read in September if I have time. I might be getting a book for my birthday on the 26th of that month so we'll see what happens and the next dark hunter novel from Sherrilyn Kenyon comes out that month too.

Amber, I've been watching it too, and I agree with your mum, they have changed quite a few things! I'm not sure why they have done that, but it's a bit annoying, as it's a while since I read it, and I keep thinking, "is my memory failing, or is that different to the book?"

message 56: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) That's why I want to read the book Shirley so I can see for myself why they didn't stick to the rest of the book because it went with the book for some of the episodes.

message 57: by [deleted user] (new)

I never thought of this before but I guess that The Simpsons Movie is kind of inspired by Under the Dome. The trailer for the TV series reminded me of that movie so much!

message 58: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) That's pretty wild Becca. I never knew that either even though I saw the film. Lol. 0-0

Well, I hope you enjoy it, Amber! It's actually the only Stephen King book I have read, although I have seen some of the films.

Haha I just thought of it there. I'm going to look it up on Wiki to see if it is based on it.

EDIT: It's not - or at least not intentionally ;-)

message 61: by Amber (last edited Aug 30, 2013 03:49PM) (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Thanks Shirley. His books are pretty good. ^_^ The Eyes of the dragon was the first book of his that I read that got me into his books and I've been only reading a few of his a year. If you need any more of his books that I can recommend to you that I read, please let me know. I'll be happy to share them with you. So I can't wait to read Under the Dome in November! ^_^ I can't wait for all these read alongs either.

message 62: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Btw, is dec 1-16 good for our city of bones readalong during that month? Was just just curious. We need to have time for us all to read and discuss the book. I'm going to do the poe readalong oct 20-31 and don't know when in november I'll do under the dome. Should be fun! :-) it's cool how many of you ladies want to read city of bones with me! It's amazing.

Thanks Amber, I intend to read more of his books in the future, but for the moment, I have so much else to read! Which would you consider his best book?

Maybe a little later? I don't know what my December is like at the minute with assignment deadlines. For all I know all my work could be due before Christmas or after. But I am off from the 14th so even if it was extended a couple of days, maybe until the 18th or 20th? Would that be ok Amber?

message 65: by Amber (last edited Aug 31, 2013 09:33AM) (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) The 14th through the 20th of December sounds great for our city of bones readalong, Alannah. I'll be sure to make a note of it. I hope it is okay with everyone else reading with us too then as it is too early to make a readalong thread for ours right now since it is not until December. And Shirley I loved his book the eyes of the dragon because that was the first book I read of his that got me hooked on his books. I also enjoyed pet sematary, salem's lot, cycle of the werewolf and the stand with his short story collection night shift and joyland. Those are all the stephen king books I have read so far. They are all pretty good. I'veonly been reading his books since 2010 to now only a few a year though. :-)

message 66: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Is that okay with everyone, the 14th-20th of December for our city of bones readalong all those that are reading it with me that month? let me know. Those are the dates Alannah suggested which I'm fine with. I'm still doing 20-31st for my the fall of the house of usher and other tales by edgar allan poe for my all hallows read readalong in October for Halloween.

message 67: by [deleted user] (new)

Just found my copy of The Shining as I'm visiting my dad for the weekend. I'll be joining in with the October readalong. I did start it before but didn't enjoy it. However that was a good few years ago and my tastes have changed so I am willing to give it another go!

message 68: by Amber (last edited Aug 31, 2013 03:56PM) (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Hey Heather that's great! Becca and Gemma are going to read the Shining for All Hallows read in October. I'm doing an edgar allan poe collection as my all hallows read readalong pick. We are also doing Shirley Jackson's we've always lived at the castle too which I'm going to read as well. ^_^ have you seen the shining movie? that's a creepy film.

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

I've not seen the film but I will after reading the book as a Halloween treat!

Leslie, I read Moby Dick a few years ago. I thought it was fabulous and at some stage will buy an audio copy to hear it again. However, I'm afraid it won't be October. I'm taking part in a big read of The Divine Comedy in another group then. If you do find people to read with I'd love to dip in to your discussions if that's OK.

Me!!! (I can't believe I am saying that against my better judgement seeing the books pile up in front of me)

@Birgit, I just saw that there is a new translation out in German by btb-Taschenbuch (translator is Matthias Jendis) which received a lot of praise.

message 77: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Awesome sigourney! :-) how's your reading going?

message 78: by Amber (last edited Sep 03, 2013 03:32PM) (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) So I'll probably post my thread for my all hallows read readalong of The Fall of the House of Usher and Other Tales on October 1 even though we won't get into it until oct 20 since I'm doing that one starting then through Halloween. I'll get a jump start on our all hallows read readalong We have always lived in the castleafter I finish The Light Between Oceanswhich I am halfway through. do we need to make a master list of all the readalongs we are doing coming up? was just curious.

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) So is there a calendar list that we can keep track of whose readalongs are coming up next? I was just curious. I'm doing 20-31st of October for my Edgar Allan poe readalong and 14-20th of December for my city of bones readalong. I don't know if I'll do one in November but if I do, I'm reading Under the Dome by Stephen King.

I don't think so because they are set up by the members, not the moderators.

message 87: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Oh okay. Thanks for letting me know Alannah.^_^

message 88: by Jenny (last edited Sep 11, 2013 01:59PM) (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Hi Amber, like Alannah has already said, since it is members setting up the readalongs and since also plans sometimes change it is easiest to just co-ordinate the times here or in the respective thread for the readalong and maybe keep track for the ones you are participating in yourself to not get confused if you are doing many. Also, it is perfectly fine for readalongs to overlap. They are much more informal then group reads and if we have 20 readalongs happening in October that is perfectly fine, unless of course you were joining them all, in which case you'd probably have to skip food, drink and sleep ;)

message 89: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Well in October, I'll only have time for my edgar allan poe one ( since I won't have time for We've always lived at the castle) and then the one in December for City of Bones. If I have time, I'll do Under the Dome in November. and thanks Jenny.

Do you mean like for example?:

October
Amber is planning an Edgar Allen Poe readalong
Jenny is planning a readlong for The Shining

message 92: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Go ahead Leslie if you feel it could use a thread like it, it would just need somebody to constantly keep track of it, since times often blurr or reads bleed over into another month. I guess the nice thing about readalongs is that times and such can be negotiated among a small group of people without having to keep track of the bigger picture, but I think if it would help people there's no reason not to do it.

Yes, something like that. I know that I have had discussions about reading things for Nov. & Dec. already so it might be helpful to just see it all together.

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) That's cool and it's gemma and becca doing the shining readalong for all hallows read in october. :-) I know someone is doing a readalong of we've always lived at the castle then too. Hey Leslie, if u need the names of all who is reading city of bones with me to add to that readalong on the list, please let me know and I'll list them for u. I wrote it down on paper so I would not forget. It looks good though. :-)

message 98: by Jenny (last edited Oct 04, 2013 12:10PM) (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments I just realized that a book I've nominated for a group read in another group has actually won. THAT'S A FIRST!! I will therefore happily and enthusiastically re-read it in November, however the discussion threads there seem a bit abandoned so I might be reading on my own or at least talking to myself about it. Anyone care to join me here for a readalong of it? It's The Bone People, which eventhough it is originally written in English to me it is World lit. It plays in New Zealand, integrating it's modern identity with the old Maori tradition and it is not for the faint hearted yet it is beautiful in it's rawness. In 1985 it won the Man Booker Prize.

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) That looks a fascinating read Jenny. On Kindle it only appears to be in German. Why would that be I wonder.

message 100: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments You're right! I also checked for English epub (not that it would help you really) but...nothing. Is there anything in large print or audio? (and why would they not bother to make a booker prize winner available to the broughtest possible audience I wonder?!)
