Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments So our very first 'All about Books'-poll has ended and in order to provide a bit of choice and because the first two are only one vote apart, Rowena and I decided to read BOTH books for our October/November Non-Fiction group read.

So from the 1st of October you have the choice of reading either Girl, Interrupted or Rosalind Franklin: The Dark Lady of DNA. Or both obviously ;)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) That's pretty cool jenny! :-)

Leslie | 16369 comments I put in a request for interlibrary loan for Rosalind Franklin: The Dark Lady of DNA. Hopefully I will have time to read it in October :D

message 4: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments I just did the same ;)

Excellent! :-) I will order Girl, Interrupted sometime before Oct, or go and buy it in Waterstones :)

Yay! So happy because I chose Girl, Interrupted. I will buy it in my uni bookstore when I go back to university at the end of September.

Good idea doing 2. I've read the Rosalind Franklin but will enjoy reading your comments. Might join in girl, interrupted bit have lots of non-fiction I already own to get through!

How is everyone getting Rosalind Franklin?

message 9: by Petra (last edited Sep 04, 2013 01:23PM) (new)

Petra | 3324 comments I'll join in on Rosalind Franklin.

Shocker of the day: my library does not have Girl, Interrupted! The book is popular enough that I thought it would be a "given" for them to have a copy.

Alannah, I'm getting a copy of Rosalind Franklin from the library.

I will try my library in Chester but amazon only seem to sell it second hand which is better than nothing I suppose.

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Alannah, they have a paperback version (new) for 6,99 here is the link

Thank you! I will put it in my wishlist so I don't lose the link, I think I might have gotten a older version of the book that is out of print.

Hooray! And concerning Girl, Interrupted, does your library do Interloan?

message 14: by Petra (new)

Petra | 3324 comments Jenny, they do but it takes a minimum of 2 months to get the book in. I've got a request in now that's already been 3 months and I'm still waiting. I'm toying with the idea of requesting Girl, Interrupted and seeing if it comes in on time for our group read. Better request it now while there's a hope of maybe getting it on time.

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Just a warning to anyone looking to get "Girl Interrupted" on Kindle - there's another book with the same name and by the reviews it looks as if some unlucky people have bought that by mistake. So check the author before clicking!

Thanks for the warning Jean, luckily you can get a refund if you say you purchased it by accident.

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) I will join in with Rosalind Franklin: The Dark Lady of DNA as I can get a copy of that

That does sounds interesting, lately my degree has been geared towards uncovering what women did in specifically Ulster history and why it was covered up.

message 20: by Elisa (new)

Elisa | 206 comments I'm very happy that Rosalind was picked! Even if I have to admit that I read 99% fiction, I am totally in favour of promoting a bit of science (and philosophy) non-fiction reads. And if they deal with life and work of great female minds even better!

And it is nice that the timing overlaps the Nobel announcements in October :)

I'm going to read this one too. I've added it to my Amazon wishlist to purchase/download when we get to the end of the month. This sounds very interesting.
