Stupid Orders

The party has entered the alien space ship, the idiot captain has ordered the marines to remove their space suits and the Staff Sargent says "Yes, sir". There is bone headed and then there is bone headed. This strikes me as something you would see in a really dumb horror movie. Does stuff like this really happen? Or would a real life Sargent say no?
