Norm Hamilton (normhamilton) | 153 comments I am at a bit of a loss as to what category to place My book CAUSATUM - The Agreement in when I publish to Amazon?

It is about a dystopic Canadian society set in 2036 and contains elements of mystery, intrigue, romance and action. I was thinking of the following categories that The Handmaid's Tale are in as it is about a squalid futuristic society as well. What do you think?

Books > Literature & Fiction > Canadian > Drama

Books > Mystery, Thriller & Suspense > Thrillers > Suspense

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) Sounds like dystopian fantasy to me. Drama doesn't seem to quite get to it. Thrillers and suspense might be an okay second category, though.

Norm Hamilton (normhamilton) | 153 comments Thanks K.A.

I didn't see "Fantasy" as an option under Canadian. Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" is listed in the subcategory "Women Writer" and Drama was the only thing close that I could find.

Perhaps I shouldn't be looking at the Canadian category.

I am looking in Amazon.ca as I am registered with KDP.Amazon.ca.

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) Ah - not sure about .ca. In the U.S. version, I believe it's under Fiction - Science Fiction - Fantasy or a similar thread.

Category woes. You have my heartfelt sympathy, Norm. I got 'em. My The Lost King and The King's Ransom unquestionably "literary fantasy." That sub-genre exists on no category check-off lists. So do I go with Fantasy, or are they General Fiction (with dragons)? As for you, it would seem "Canadian" would be important if you think that particular setting is of vital importance, or you think you'll find most of your readers by appealing to their interest in anything or anyone Canadian.
