namericanwordcat | 242 comments Heros who don't treat women like objects before the heroine. Not virgins but men who don't feel the need to see women as hmm bodies. lol

A rare breed... very rare breed. Lol. One of my favorite heroes is from The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie. Its a HR and despite the misleading title, Ian is a very unique hero.

namericanwordcat | 242 comments lol I need to check that one out!

PepperP0t hmmm...the only one I can think of is Atticus from the Iron Druid series but there have gotta be others.. aren't there?

message 5: by McGee Magoo (new)

McGee Magoo Probably any of the Virgin Heroes would fit that...Maybe some of the Beta heroes. Wow, I need to think about this. HR and Paranormal genres may be harder to come by. Contemporary romance may have more.

Lynn Kurland has some HR/Fantasy that might fit. Her stuff tends to be more on the sweet side of romance.
Another author is, Lynsay Sands. She writes humorous vampire PNR. And most of her heroes are gentlemen.

Dawn (dawnreader) Great rec of The Madness of Lord Ian McKenzie. It is such an unusual character and great writing.I recommend it, as well. Has anyone talked about Stacia Kane's series beginning with Unholy Ghosts (Downside series). Terrible is a wonderful character (yes, his name is Terrible).

Tammy | 395 comments I like this theme! I can't think of any books with this kind of hero at the moment, I'll think on it and come back

namericanwordcat | 242 comments lol I think they are easier to find in historicals. All of Morsi's Americanas but Contemporaries much harder!

Sonya Heaney Contemporary romance is pretty good with that these days. Pretty much every guy in Harlequin's Superromance line (think authors like Sarah Mayberry) write heroes who don't sleep with anyone they look at. Some books in that line are scarily wholesome, but then others are definitely not. :)

Most of Robyn Carr's heroes are respectful of women. Same with many written by Jill Shalvis and Toni Blake.

Then there's always the wonderful, wonderful Easy by Tammara Webber

Neeta | 38 comments Most of the Katie Reus heroes in the Red Stone Security series are non-root-rats, especially Travis in Miami Mistletoe and Murder - he doesn't believe in casual sex or one night stands and has only ever had sex with his previous girlfriends - and there has only been 3 in whole life before meeting the heroine.

Pepper Pace's Beast - the hero marine has only ever done the deed twice in his life - he's facially scarred from a cleft pallet, huge and intimidating, and on top of that, incredibly shy.

Katie Allen's Breaking the Silence, reclusive computer nerd who looks like a big blonde viking is still a virgin coz of a traumatic childhood in foster care.

Cheryl Pierson's Sweet Danger - undercover cop hero has been alone and celibate since his wife's suicide a few years before.

Kristen Ashley's Play it Safe - rancher hero is looking after his disabled grandmother and trying to keep the ranch alive. He's probably one of the least active of KA's heroes sex-wise (not much in the way of ex-gfs or ex-wives to speak of). Actually quite a lot of KA heroes are non-root-rats: Mike - coz he has kids he's mindful of and psycho ex baggage, Tate - coz his psycho ex makes life miserable for him and any new woman he would get, Ty - coz a creepy ex lied about his alibi and helped get him sent to jail for 5 years, Colt - he stuck with a bitchy on-off gf after his marriage broke up coz he couldn't be bothered hunting for a lot a of sex, Prentis - celibate since his wife died, Chace had a couple of regular women he went to for sex while not being with the woman who blackmailed into marriage (co-incidentally the creepy cow who got Ty sent to jail).... Pretty much the only root-rat heroes are Tack, Joe, Shy, Hop and most of the guys from the Rock Chick series (some of whom are said to have "f*cked anything that moved").

Beth Williamson has some seriously sexy heroes in her Malloy family historical western series. None of the guys are particularly root-rattish in behaviour. We even have a virgin (Jack) and a celibate single father (Ray).

PS for non-aussies - a root-rat is our equivalent of a man-ho.

Definitely do - it's one of my best reads in as long as I can remember. It's unfortunately so rare to find YA or NA books that aren't dripping with misogyny, and I was thrilled with how female characters - major and minor - were treated in the book.

You make an excellent point: *never* ask an Australian who they "root for", or tell them you like to "root for" someone. TMI!!

Neeta | 38 comments Yes, and you never want to be or be with a person who's called a wombat, coz a wombat eats roots and leaves.LOL.

Nicole | 27 comments Hi,

I would recommend His Brother's Bride (Banks Brothers Bride, #4) by Rose Gordon . The hero is a virgin.
