Goodreads Authors/Readers discussion

How "hard" does your science fiction have to be? Or, alternatively, how forgiving are you, with respect to the solidity of the science?

Good science is good science but really detailed science can lose me because if I don't have a grasp on chemistry or physics...it's lost on me. I depend on the author to know what they are doing.
And to be frank really hard SF makes my eyes glaze over. it's like reading a car repair manual...except I am not entertained and I am not making repairs!
I know a lot of people love the nuts and bolts of warp drive....but I just take it as a given....give me the story and fling me into a new world...I don't have to know how the roller coaster works!
