Hartley (lunaticlovers) | 4 comments I'm bisexual. I live in Colorado. I've had a hard time finding good lesbian fiction that isn't pure smut.

Hi Hartley and Welcome! Hope you don't mind I moved your post to the "Introduce Yourself" folder.

I know what you mean, from the perspective of gay fiction in my case. There's plenty of stuff out there that's mainly for titillation - nothing wrong with that per se, but not always my cup of tea. But there is plenty of good stuff out there with substance too!

Maybe consider joining in one of our group reads for July and August, Blue is the Warmest Color, a lesbian themed graphic novel? You can comment as you read here?

Also a number of people shared some gay and lesbian books that they'd liked enough to re-read at: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Hi Hartley welcome to the group! You might like Foxfire Confessions of a Girl Gang by Joyce Carol Oates. It is not LGBT exactly but has that vibe and is one of my favorites. For a non-fiction history read you might enjoy Boots of Leather, Slippers of Gold: The history of a Lesbian Community. I read this Pre-GR days and found it to be excellent. For a fictionalized powerful history lesson you might like Stone Butch Blues by Les Feinberg. It is very depressing (and maddening) in parts but I remember really liking it. That reminds me that I should probably re-read all of those in the near future.

Welcome Hartley. I've not read much Lesbian fiction per se, but can recommend The Hours and its subject Mrs. Dalloway

Both good books!

Rambling Reader (ramblingreader) | 0 comments Mrs Dalloway is one of my all-time favorites.

Has anyone seen the Movie The Hours? What did you think?

I haven't yet, but I liked the book when I read it a few months ago.

Rambling Reader (ramblingreader) | 0 comments Meryl Streep was great so was Julianne Moore. Nicole Kidman as Virginia Woolf, not so much.
Oh, on the other hand, Vanessa Redgrave was incandescent in the screen adaptation of Mrs. Dalloway.

Greg Love Vanessa Redgrave in general - she seems to be fantastic in just about everything!

She was in 2 exceptional movies I remember well from when I was at University: A Man for All Seasons and Blow-Up. I really liked her in Mary, Queen of Scots and Howard's End too.

Greg I've seen three of the four movies you mention Kernos, and I agree, her performances in all of those were fantastic!
