Helen Henderson | 9 comments Requesting a suggestion on how to handle. Background: When Shared Whispers was originally independently published in January 2013 I was one of the contributing authors to the anthology and Shared Whispers appears in my dashboard. The book was picked up by a publisher (with whom I had already parted ways) who released the book in September 2013 (ASIN B00EXYJSLG) listed as 2 edition.

The September edition is only fifteen stories and mine is not one of them. My problem is that I want to remove Shared Whispers from my author profile. My story is not in it and I am no longer listed as an author in the second edition. However I couldn’t figure out how to change my profile without editing the book’s information, which also didn’t seem right.

I know deleting books from the system is verboten, and Shared Whispers is still a valid ebook so I don't want to do anything to the book listing. But the buy link takes people to the publisher’s version of which I am not part so it doesn’t seem right to keep the book on my profile and anger readers who are looking for my works by having a book listed that I am not part of. As you can see this is a fairly unique situation. Any ideas?

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments I'm not sure what to do here, but I think that the difference between the two editions of "Shared Whispers" would qualify them for being considered separate books by GR standards since they don't contain the same content. The new version did not actually have a listing here yet, so I've created it:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18...

I've added notes to each record indicating the situation as well.

One thing we can't do is change the original record; that needs to remain available for the readers who read that version. Hopefully the note will make this less confusing for new readers.

Helen Henderson | 9 comments What is happening is that the readers are getting mad at me because they go looking for my work and there is no original version available ANYWHERE. When the publisher took over Shared Whispers, as it was only in ebook form, it deleted the version that I appeared in. So except on a handful of kindles that version ceased to exist.

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments I've dug up the original ASIN for the first release. Since most people will search by the ASIN if there is one available, this will help to show the difference between the versions.

You might also want to talk to some people in the GR Authors group about ways to communicate book changes to readers -- they may have some tips.

Helen Henderson | 9 comments Cait, thank you for the suggestion and your assistance. Am no longer in contact with CBG, but your idea about the ASIN gave me another idea. So thanks again for all your help.
