How will you read our October selections of My Antonia and We Have Always Lived in the Castle?

Physical Book? Audio? EReader? Phone?

Lets compare and maybe share where the best "deals " are.

I downloaded My Antonia on my Android which is free in Google Play. But there are actually some errors. Anytime the word "that " is supposed to appear, it is substituted with the word "mat"!
it is also available on my library phone app for free where i could borrow the book, but then can't highlight and notate it as I can on Google Play.
How is everyone else doing?

The free version on Amazon seems fine. I'll probably use this edition. (The Android Kindle app does allow highlighting and notes, and has a web interface to view the notes later, if desired.) And for what to use, it depends on whatever I'm closest to. Probably my e-reader, mostly, but might use my phone or web browser for part of it.

I read We Have Always Lived In the Castle last year and still have my paper copy if I am in the mood for a re-read.

Teresa (teresatheterrible) | 44 comments I HAVE a physical copy of both. I had to read My Antonia for a class in college, and I LOVE Shirley Jackson and went through a slight obsession with her a few years ago, and bought all her books (which are few, anyway). Somewhere during the process of moving into my boyfriend's home, I either lost My Antonia, or else its still at my dads house, where 90% of my books are stored. We Have Always Lived In The Castle most definitely made it through the move, as I've tried to push it on several of my friends, recommending it strongly to anyone I know that is into creepy stories. I would proclaim 'Its short! Its sweet! Its creepy...its...well...its Shirley Jackson, and she's a boss of weird, unsettling stories.' Still, no one would read it :-( So now, I plucked it off the shelf yesterday, and I will read it with you! I look forward to re-reading and seeing all my handwritten notes in the margins (THAT'S how good it is- I rarely offer to let people borrow books that I've annotated because i'm embarassed by my scrawlings in the margins, but I still offered this one to several people). My Antonia will come from Amazon, for free. And don't forget...you don't have to have a kindle to read Amazon's kindle books...just the app on a smartphone. Can't WAIT!!! I know we can start discussing now, but I'm halfway through a group read in another group, so I must wait til Oct. 1st. I know I will be more active in We Have Always Lived In The Castle because I loved it so much. I'm not even sure I will get around to My Antonia, although I DO intend to. Its just that, well, I didn't really love it the first time around. 7 years can make a lot of difference, though, so we'll see....

Danaë | 125 comments I have My Antonia on my Kindle and I've ordered a paperback of We Have Always Lived in the Castle.

My goodness Teresa your enthusiasm is contagious! I can't wait to get my copy of We Have Always Lived in the Castle. The only work of Shirley Jackson I've read before is The Lottery, and I really liked her writing.

Tammy Olmstead | 15 comments My library did not have We Have Always Lived in the Castle, so I bought it from Amazon. I think it was $7.99. I read most of my books on my phone with the kindle app. I was able to buy the "Prairie Trilogy" on Amazon for kindle for $1.99. I have started with O Pioneers! so it may take me a minute to get into the discussion.
