DHASG October Challenge

Introduction: October is the tenth month of the year. It's amazing how fast the year has gone. October is the first full month of fall, and we see the seasons change over and the days shorten and days grow cooler (at least in the Northern Hemisphere). Let's see what reading adventures we can find in October.

Instructions:

1. Books must be read between October 1st and October 31st of the month.
2. Please post on this thread that you are signing up and update your stats as you finish. Let the moderator know when you are completed in your final post.
3. A book can only be used once in the challenge.
4. Books of any genre can be used for the challenge, unless a particular part of the challenge states otherwise.
5. Happy reading!

Levels:
1. Perfect 10: Read 10 out of 10 books on the list
2. Fearless Reader: Read 5-9 books
3. Trick or Treat: Read 3-4 books

1. Trick or Treat!: Pick a book out of your tbr pile, your choice. Our treat!
2.Top Ten: Since October is the 10th month, pick an author out of your top ten favorites and read one of their books this month.
3.Scary Therapy: Let's work on banishing our fears. Read a book that has something (subject matter) that scares you. For example: Are you afraid of clowns? Read a book with clowns. You get the point!
4.Leif Erickson Trumps Columbus!: Since Columbus Day and Leif Erickson Day both fall this month, read a book about Vikings or explorers or about early American history.
5.Dress Up Day!: Even though some of us don't celebrate Halloween, we can still appreciate the fun of dressing up as someone we're not. Read a book where the main character is in disguise or pretending to be someone else.
6. Heritage Month!: The following are celebrated this month: German American, Polish American, Italian American, GLBT History Month. Pick one of these and read a book related to it.
7.What's in a name?: Neil Gaiman and Ray Bradbury have works written with October in their titles. U2 wrote a song named after October, and so does Broken Bells. Read a book that has October in its title. Alternatively, if you can find a book that starts with an O or a book with seven letters, you can count it.
8.Practical Flower : Calendula, or Marigold, the birth flower of October is very versatile, with numerous medicinal properties. It is also edible and has been used as source of yellow dye. It symbolizes contentment, excellence, gratitude and love for nature. Read a book that has characters that bring to mind these traits. You can also read a book with a main character who is in the medical profession, knows herblore or healing properties of plants, or even a character whose name is Marigold.
9.Halloween Treats: Pick one of the treats we eat on/around Halloween and read a book that represents it: Candy corn, caramel apples, chocolate candy, bubble gum, gummy candy, hard candy. Can you think of another sweet treat? You can use it for this challenge.
10.Halloween Party!: Welcome to the party! We have some activities planned. Pick out one and read a book that reminds you of that activity:
Carving pumpkins, bobbing for apples, telling a ghost story, lighting a bonfire, going on a haunted hayride/to a haunted house.

**Disclaimer: Information about the month of October taken from various websites that I do not own.
