I have written a book called makin it right by april joy on Amazon. This book may help young teenage girls that get involved at a very young age to realize they can be very successful in life. Additionally, women that are in abusive relationships can get out and be happy.

Bill Calhoun (billcalhoun) | 3 comments Hi All,
I'm Bill and I love self-help books -- reading, writing, reviewing and discussing! I believe that we can truly change our lives by exchanging wisdom with others. I've written some self help books on success, communication and mood disorders as well as some children's fables -- we have to start improving humanity while they are young! I look forward to sharing and receiving many life lessons with you all.

Cherice Price | 3 comments Hello all!

I'm Cherice and it's great to happen upon this page. What an honor to be in the presence if so many wonderful and like-minded individuals. I'm a clinically trained therapist turned entrepreneur. I too am a self-help junkie. I love reading, especially books that work to raise my levels of awareness and expectations. Like many, I'm an avid member of a Toastmasters chapter here in Chicago. Personal development never tires and it's a road worth traveling.

Great to meet you all!

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello everyone, I am retired for six years from forty years in the Information Systems field. I have been interested in self help books for many years and decided to write my story that could potentially help others. Marketing the book is a bit difficult. Especially to the audience that it may help. If you have any suggestions, please write. The name of my book is makin it right by april joy on Amazon. Thanks.

message 19: by JJ (new)

JJ Hello! I have always been an avid self-help reader. Through Goodreads I've rediscovered fiction too, but continue to read at least one personal/professional development book each month.

I was just accepted into my local annual Leadership class, so I think my quota of PD will increase for awhile. The intensity of the class and the circle of business leaders is so exciting but also scaring the heck out of me, so I'm currently studying Robin Sharma's Crush Your Fears course.

"The place where your greatest fears live is also where your greatest potential lies."

For me, this is public speaking. So I'm going to run straight toward Toastmasters and other opportunities to improve in this area and hopefully Leadership won't be so intimidating!

Heather Thomas (TheHelpfulCounselor) | 1 comments Hello All!

I'm currently working as an elementary counselor and blogger/self-publisher over at www.thehelpfulcounselor.com

I am also certified in secondary education (English) as well as special education (emotionally impaired).

I'm currently involved in a life-long love affair with books and education. Books are an addiction and I have been known to amass large amounts of reading material throughout my house.

I feel very fortunate that I am able to meld my two loves into my career. Helping kids to better themselves through literature is an amazing feeling!

Best Wishes,
Heather

I haven't done Toastmaster's before, although last year I did an improv comedy class to get used to putting myself out there. It was a lot of fun and I highly recommend it for people working on public speaking!

To be honest, I don't like reading when I was a teenager. But as I started to step into the society, a friend of mine told me that in order to step up to the game, I have to start reading.

Once I get started, I couldn't stop, and that was 8 years ago. I am now a start-up entrepreneur and all the more, I need to expand my skills and knowledge thru reading.

It's great to be here and look forward to share with you guys. On a side note, feel free to hook me up if you have any travel inquiries as I am in the tourism industry, particularly for Asia market :)

L. Soash (KrystalinaSoash) | 7 comments Hi Vivek Rajan Vivek,

I'd like to comment on ”How come Age and Maturity are not Linear.”

“Older people should be wiser and more mature than the young. But that’s not always the case. There are young people who are wise beyond time."

I applaud you for this statement because based on my own experience, sometimes my own adult children share perspectives I had not thought of.

Also want to share that I find the following excerpt from your book very helpful: "Tens of car start at the same time. In the very first lap there are accidents. Some drop out, the rest return to the paddock to get fixed and return to the race. As the race progresses, cars get overtaken and eventually get lapped (where the first car is now ahead by an entire lap)... So is the case with life and humans. Everything started at the same time but down the line things happened. For practical purposes we invented the past and the future. Spiritually, only the present exists. If that is the case then the past and the future don't exist."

I like your theories/perspective and I look forward to reading more. Thanks for sharing these points in your excerpt and thank you for the links :)

~Krystalina

Belinda (bmao) | 1 comments Hi all!

I just joined this goodreads and i'm super excited about this group!

I'm a senior at USC so I'm about to join the "real world".

I love reading good books and my latest obsession is biographies and autobiographies about successful people, a little inspiration for me.

The latest one I just finished is Fire & Ice: My Wall Street Journey by Jung-Sook Camilla Lee. She's a local author I met on campus and one of the nicest ladies I've ever spoken too.

If you guys have any great ideas for my read pleasse let me know!

I am fairly new to Goodreads and to this group. I am very excited about what I see in the discussions and look forward to what may come. I love reading just about any type of book, however, I especially love books that make me want to improve myself and really make me appreciate life.

One book that I recently read that still keeps coming to my heart is The Longest Distance by David Scott. I highly recommend this book as it really lifted my heart to a new appreciation.

I look forward to this group's discussions and recommended readings!

message 40: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Briggs | 1 comments Hi all. I'm a self-improvement-book junkie, though truth be told I listen to more in my car than I read in print. I like everything from philosophical stuff to efficiency/productivity stuff to financial stuff. Basically anything that I think can make me more effective or successful I will read/listen to.

I also wrote a book of my own that falls into this category. It's called
Only Read the Fine Print. It's a collection of ideas, insights, and anecdotes that I want to make sure my children have easy access to. If you hurry you can sign up for the giveaway that's going on right now and maybe win a free copy. ;)

So with that in mind... what one idea or piece of advice has made the biggest difference in your life? What do you hope your kids/the next generation learns sooner than you did? And if you got that idea from a book, what book was it?
