Five months ago, Valerie Leftman's boyfriend, Nick, opened fire on their school cafeteria. Shot trying to stop him, Valerie inadvertently saved the life of a classmate, but was implicated in the shootings because of the list she helped create. A list of people and things she and Nick hated. The list he used to pick his targets.

Now, after a summer of seclusion, Val is forced to confront her guilt as she returns to school to complete her senior year. Haunted by the memory of the boyfriend she still loves and navigating rocky relationships with her family, former friends and the girl whose life she saved, Val must come to grips with the tragedy that took place and her role in it, in order to make amends and move on with her life.

I am totally thrilled with this book. I love the way it's written. it's not so common style.

25% done (view spoiler)[this situation is really hard on Valerie. it's like nobody wants to be near her and plus that nobody, absolutely no one sees that she lost her boyfriend, who she really loved and was the only person who understood her. and now everybody remembers him like some kind of monster. how come they don't see they made him that way? maybe not all the way, but they definitely had some part in that.

omg, i HATE Valerie's dad!

i finished this book yesterday. it was really good. i was not perfectly happy with the end because it was kinda predictable but all in all i really liked this book because it shows us how hard that situation is on everyone. (view spoiler)[but i am really not the fan of that time capsule thing. and i really don't know how Valerie could be friend with jessica and then go to christie and apologize. maybe i'm the bitter person but I wouldn't be able to do that. i think I would blame them still for Nick's death. Just started can't even imagine what it would be like to have someone you were close to do such a horrible thing.

Chapter 19, Valerie has really got herself into a horrible situation, I just feel for this girl :-) (view spoiler)[ her mom is worried about her hurting other people, really?? That bothers me. I like her shrink, he seems to really know what he is doing, fortunately. I just can't even imagine being in this situation I feel for her so deeply. (hide spoiler)]

The end of this book,(view spoiler)[ was really moving, I just thought they couldn't have ended in a better way, I liked how Jessica the girl who was saved by Valerie became her ultimate defender! And everyone learned a lesson, the very very hard way! (hide spoiler)] I hope you enjoy it!

I'm in to read this one. Will start this evening.

Part 1: (view spoiler)[ Omg! To get bullied relentlessly by these people must be hard. I feel bad for Valerie. However, I feel worst for the kids who were killed because of the shooting. I think it is sad to know that those students will no longer be there. Sad that these events still happen in our world. Reading this and finding out that there were some students and teachers who were killed and not even on the List. So sad! I think this shed a light of the severity of the situation that teens face. Part 2: (view spoiler)[ This part is more about the aftermath of the shooting. I feel bad that nobody believes that Valerie did not know Nick was going to shoot students. Also, I think it is a good idea that the school reopened. It means that the school will not let the shooting define what the school represents. This is a great book. It shows the struggle that teens face, but also shows how these events change a community as a whole. (hide spoiler)]

Part 3: (view spoiler)[ Her father is an idiot. Her mother is no better with the overprotectiveness. Also, I can't believe her father will not help her after she was threatened. That is very sad. It shows that her parents never really care about her but rather their reputation. I am appalled that Duce was also questioned and to find out that Ginny used to be friends with Nick. I like the fact that Jessica wants to hang out with her and get to know the real Val. My Gosh, this book is amazing. Can't put it down. (hide spoiler)]

Part 4 (Ending Thoughts): (view spoiler)[ I really liked the way the time capsule was introduced during their graduation ceremony. Also, I thought it made the story strong by saying that we will remember, but have to move on as well. The ending made me cry a bit. I gave it a 4/5. A thought-provoking read. (hide spoiler)]

Part 1 (view spoiler)[ wow the opening of this book was definitely an opener. Poor Valerie is partly being blamed for having to do with the deaths of those kids. It's just awful how her and Nick were being treated, but that doesn't mean Nick can just kill whoever has wronged them. It's sad to think that she had part in creating that list. I definitely agree with you Sharon, it's sad that these events are still ongoing in our world. (hide spoiler)]

Wow. I never thought we'd get a perspective like this. I really like the flashbacks and the story so far. Valarie is clearly suffering with the aftermath of all of this. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I wasn't expecting Stacey's reaction, and clearly neither was Valarie. It's sad that her mother is basically shunning her, but I'm sure it's hard to accept that your daughter made a list like that. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I cannot believe these parents. They are so incredibly selfish and have zero consideration for their daughter. (hide spoiler)]

Part 4
(view spoiler)[ I liked how it ended. I think there is a lot of room for hope and people are beginning to heal. I still really hate the father though. (hide spoiler)]
