Ok this is a pet peeve that I want to know if you have.

I'm sick of reading books/watching films with unrealistic children reactions. Am I the only one who did exactly that my parents told me to do first time, especially in dangerous situations?

Maybe because I grew up with my grandad still about and we would talk about the war and how important it is to hold my dads hand at all times and do what he said without question.

Im stick of watching movies where the kids tell their parents they hate them, then the parents die or get hurt. Who does that?

Or they run off and get into danger.

Did I just have really strict parents?

@Bisky, your parents were apparently all cool and stuff. Funny thing, my grandpa used to tell storties about the war.
I don't think there's such a thing as an unrealistic children reaction. I'd rather say the kid that runs away into the jaws of the monster, is a bit stupid. But if that kid was not so dumb, he would never get into the recon corps, just to make an example.

Kids who are more mature than adults doesn't actually happen much.

Nah, I guess thats true. Its just irritating that they are always either super intelligent or super stupid. But I'm thinking of adult horror/action movies. Its been the case in the last 3 movies I watched.

The "precocious child" stereotype which rules American television drives me bonkers. My mom would have slapped me if I said anything like these kids say.

I think its the movie 28 months later where the kids sneak into the cut off zone. They run screaming and whooping through the empty streets and I remember my dad turning to me ans saying: Must have had an american writer, british children wouldn't do something so stupid.

I agree. I hate it. I keep reminding my kids that if they ever pulled that stuff it would be bad news. The TV kids always talk back and say snarky things. I would never have imagined saying anything like that to any adult when I was a child.

I couldn't either. and whats with teens sneaking off to remote areas to do naughty things? What ever happened to barricading the bedroom door and pretending to play videogames?

Colleen Hoover happened to have gotten it right in Hopeless. Boy would come over while Mom is out. They would hang out on bed etc. Or sometimes there would be sneaking through window but most of the time entering through the front door and saying hello to the mother first.

I remember feeling really dissapointed that english windows were so tiny. No sneaking out there.

My dad was strict, but not in a suffocating way. And I certainly obeyed what he said. There was no other option. I understood respect, and I would not have disobeyed. This doesn't mean I wasn't mischievous and got into my own trouble at times, but I wasn't disrespectful, and in a dangerous situation, I would have listened.

Children o eventually realize their love for their parents especially being away from them for a while and when growing up. We should not despair, just keeping guiding them even if they do resist.

The thing to remember about children is that they do not think like adults their thought processes are actually fairly simple and their language and actions should reflect this. I am not saying that kids are dumb they are still developing.
