I've watched and recorded this movie last night. It was a cute movie. I'm not going to spoil it for anyone that wants to see it and hasn't seen it yet.

Accents can be sexy. It depends on what kind of accent to me. I love an European accent.

I didn't like it. I thought Patrick Dempsey was a pig. He had a huge case of Dog in the Manger syndrome. She should have married the Scotsman IMHO. But I must admit I don't like most romantic comedies that come out. I find them insipid. Weird I know coming from a lover or romance novels.

new_user LOL. I like them when they're clever. I didn't find Made of Honor to be that. New in Town was funny. I recently saw that. Harry Connick Jr. is pretty funny. What a charmer, that one.

I love comedy movies that can make me laugh. I am not saying this movie made me laugh. Seeing Patrick in this movie, kept bringing me back to Can't Buy Me Love. I like that movie.

When I was watching this movie, I thought about Dave and Sophia and how Dave would do anything to make Sophia happy, even if he had to keep his feelings for her a secret, which he couldn't keep to long. Just as Patrick's character, Dave realized that he was in love with his best friend.

And IMHO,the woman in the movie wasn't in love with the man she was going to marry. She had strong feelings for Patrick's character. That was shown, at his father's wedding.

I have found the best friend falling in love to be cute. I like that theme.

Yes, but Dave treated Sophia better than PD's character treated his friend. He was a jerk and used women. I didn't like him at all. I realize that she was in love with PD but I don't think he deserved her. Dave is a great guy. This guy in Made to Honor was a jackass. Sorry. I guess I have strong feelings about that movie. I'm glad y'all liked it though.
I love Harry Connick, Jr. Have to check that one out. He was so cute in Hope Floats.

I love comedies. Most romantic comedies really don't make me laugh, because they are usually one dimensional and rather inane. (I'm not a snob. I prefer the stupid comedies over these is all).

I don't watch a lot of romantic comedy. I like the "have you laughing" comedies.

Patrick's character was a playa and his best friend knew this. But, he wanted to change. Even when his best friend was away and he was with other women, he didn't want to be with them. He missed what he had with his best friend.

Oh in regards to Dave. Patrick's character can't touch my sexy nerd.

One last thing. I think the woman was going to marry the Scottish man, to get back at Patrick's character. She did'nt love that man. I am sorry, true love will never let another person take you away from the person you're going to marry. I'm sorry doesn't equal true love to me. The woman was just waiting to hear Patrick's tell her that he loves her. She been waiting for those words for years. She was a little selfish too.

She was selfish in what way? Marrying the Scot and knowing she didn't love him? I can concede that.

I don't think she was perfect by any means. My biggest issue with PD character is that terrible way he treated women. He is proof of how mysognistic some womanizers are.

I have to find out Patrick's character's name. Next time, I post, I shall have his name.

The woman. I shall know her name too. She was selfish, in that she knew she was in love with her best friend, yet she agreed to marry a man she didn't even know and love. She knew she wasn't in love with the Scot. She should have ended the engagment, before it has gotten out of hand. She should have never went meet his parents, knowing that she didn't love him.

Plus, how could she marry the Scot, even after finding out he plays the pipe and killing animals. She didn't look too happy with that. Plus, he didn't want her sharing his cake. He gave her a piece of crumb. She wouldn't be happy living like that. Oh, let me not forget the baby's name.

Some of that was put in for laugh value. I was trying to figure out if I would not marry a guy for most of those reasons. I think she did realize they were not compatible.

I'm a firm believer in knowing a little something about the man you are going to marry.

LOL, I wouldn't want to wake up at 2 a.m. in the morning, to the sound of my husband playing drums and finding out then that's the time he wakes up to practice his drum playing.

No Justine it's not an IR movie.

I definitely agree. You need to know the man you marry and I don't mean biblically. :)

new_user Yeah, it would be fun to see more variety in the leading actresses in these romantic comedies, but there are unfortunately quite a lot of roles still reserved only for white actors. :/

I agree with both of you. You would probably like Bride and Prejudice and Bend it Like Beckham. Indian woman/White man.

message 21: by new_user (new)

new_user I did like Bride and Prejudice, actually, LOL. It was pretty funny. I liked the snake dance and the cousin. xD I want to see The Other End of the the Line. That looks cute too. I've also just discovered My Faraway Bride and Blind Dating. Those look interesting. :)

I'll have to check out the last three movies. My sister liked Blind Dating a lot.
