Favourite place to write?

My desk is a two parter with my bf, he sits and plays video games while I write. I thought it was a good idea until he discovered his friends like his games too.
Oh, the swears :x

Sometimes I write in a cafe (whatever is on hand: Starbucks, Think Coffee, Argo Tea, etc). That's typically a writing group setting, when I feel like being social.
Last year during NaNoWriMo we were writing with beer, and I ended up spilling mine on the keyboard. Thankfully my laptop got a nice cleaning afterwards and isn't glitching anymore...but that was scary. Being drunk around technology isn't the smartest plan.

I wrote my first novel on an old recliner in my bedroom. I really don't have a favorite writing place any more. That's some place I'm trying to locate. In the summer 2010, I went to McDonalds and wrote before going to work in the morning and sometimes late at night.

To be sure, I have friends there with whom I write and/or talk. And, yes, some sessions turn into gabfests. Today, for example. But I need to be out of the house where I can easily find loads of distractions. "Oh, look, the dishes!" Or "I need to pet the cat." These can keep me from getting anything done. Typically I spend a chunk of time talking in the coffeeshop and then working. The truth is that I get a lot done.
This practice speaks to what I used to advise students when I taught college comp. Wherever you write, whatever you use to pen a first draft, whatever time it is--just be sure to do it. Some writers must chain themselves to a desk in a room with complete silence in the air. Still others must be around people where social time is part of the writing process.
The best method? Whatever Works For You!
I agree!
its also another reason I don't have a cat.
Writing for me has never been an issue, its just editing and finishing it off where I'm still trying to find my perfect zone.

I like to write some place quiet but I can write just about anywhere give me a pen and paper, yes these days sometimes I even write with a pen and paper, mostly though I write on this computer thing. The truth is I write in my head, so when my wife is driving which is all of the time I write/compose and when I am in bed asleep I write. Writing for me is a bit like a disease or a sickness it just happens whether I get it down on paper or not it has to happen there is no escape, lucky for me that I enjoy it.
My friend's dad bought me a posh fountain pen in Iran. Loves it I do.
also you can get hypoallergenic cats :D

I wrote a detailed plan for a novel in my old Unis library. Something about being around so many books lol. I wrote most of my first novel with the movie Signs on repeat in the background lol.
I dunno what it is about that movie but I always watch it when I'm stuck with something ...

I cannot write when I am with people I know. I don't know why but if there is a chance they look over at my screen, I won't write. Most of my writing is done on my computer at my desk in my room, but there are so much distractions around. Today O got a bit of writing done in school during a free period, though my 10 inch laptop isn't ideal.
The best place were I have written, is somewhere far away from I live. I've been on holiday to Finland in September and I found this gorgeous spot in nature at the sea where I could look out over the city... it was amazing! Especially the visits of the crows. But well not a good writing spot in winter and well Helsinki is two and a half hours flying away.
The only thing that is a must for me to be able to write: a comfortable chair and not being disturbed. Well that are two things.

@Carry - I never had the problem of people around me being curious about what I'm writing. lol :/ That view seems phenomenal. :D I was in New York City in March 2012, and our hotel room was on the 37th or 38th floor, and out the window you can see other buildings. It's awesome at night. I loved writing there. :3
@Steven - The dining room in my house was my primary spot for a while, but my dogs are distracting. xD
@Mary - Quietness is an absolute must for me, too--for writing, but with editing, I can have more noise.
@Bitten Jewels - People are my top distraction. lol

The only cofee shops around here are Starbuck's and they're always busy and they're expensive. :/ I hate brightly lit places, too. The library here is huge, but it's illuminated with those long, pale white lights--like my dorm room. I want orangish-yellowish light dammit! lol Thank goodness I have a desk lamp with that color of light.

I don't like people looking over my shoulder either, Carry.

I liked hearing the hum of New York City traffic while writing. I think that's why a good chunk of my story takes place there. xD

There was lemon trees inside the cafe ^.^ and it was full of rich looking people :p The culture of this city is known for its nonconfrontation, therefore I bought one coffee and sat there for 6 hours without the staff disturbing me:p
It was an expensive coffee afterall.

Looks cozy! No coffee shops like that around here. Did they have fluorescent lighting? (I hate fluorescent lighting...pale light gives me a headache)
I didn't know you did hard copy edits. :3 It gives your eyeballs a break from screens. TV, computer, iPod, DS---off.. it's good to get a break from screens lol

I can't afford to print usually but its my birthday next week so I got some ink early for a present :3
And no florecent lighting, it was dim chandeliers and mirrored walls with big windows. I shoulda taken a pic inside :3 (didn't really want to advertise where I was too much lol) Its helped alot, I got in abit of a rut.
