Scavenger Hunt VIII

Duration: October 1 to December 31, 2013

•This “Challenge” works in conjunction with the other challenges you may participate during this time frame.

•While you are fulfilling the requirements of your other challenges, be on the lookout for the following items - they may be on the cover or mentioned in the book. Most items are specific, but if in doubt about an item – just ask!

•You may use a book to fulfill multiple items (you do not have to read 50 books for this challenge...do not worry!)

•When you find one of the items, list the Book Title and Author (or link the cover), date it, & rate it. Then specify where the item is found within the book

•Books that are used must be read during the period of this challenge, the challenge does not start until 10/01/13, but you can get your lists together early. Good Luck & Happy Reading! ☺

Hahaha Dawn, I so picked aquarium because that was one I didn't get the first time and I wanted to conquer it. Glad you're in again!

I use a half sheet of paper with all my words as a bookmark. I note the page number as I'm reading then when I'm done with the book I update the list and make a smaller bookmark for the next one.

I don't do as well with e-books, but sometimes I have my list near by and highlight as I go then update my list afterwards.

message 13: by Paris (last edited Sep 30, 2013 02:58PM) (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments I do exactly what Dawn does. And then sometimes I completely mess up and forget to pay attention and if that happens, I just do a search either in the ebook or on Amazon to see if the book has the item in it. That way is far more time consuming, but it's not too bad.

You should give it a try Belinda. It's a lot easier than you think and it's a ton of fun. I have never once finished completely, but I always enjoy the challenge.

Totally feel your pain. Both the books I'm currently reading would knock a bunch of words off the list.

Quick questions: I need to find the item don't I? Not the word as in words with friends. And I started my book yesterday, can I use it?

Woohoo!! Yay!! Anything read after it became October 1st works for the challenge. And yes you have to find the item. For example (thanks Suzanne for having posted already...), here is what you're looking to do...

13. Peanut Butter: "When the rain began to fall we made our way quickly back to the house and ate peanut butter and crackers for dinner."
Uncharted by Tracey Garvis-Graves - ***** - 10/2/2013

If you have any questions about whether or not something would count please post it here and I will let you know.

I looked through the thread the last time the word aquarium was in the mix and it was a little unclear...are we looking for an actual aquarium to show up in a scene or does someone saying "we went to the aquarium" work?

Ok, I've been reading down over the comments and I think that I may have to give this a try. Especially since the book I started last night has a couple of the words in it LOL. I'm going to have to write them down and keep them with my NOOK cover or I'll totally forget, thanks for the idea

Not really my call but I'd say either. I know last time I got approved to use "fish bowl" on the last day of the hunt.

Belinda ... I use audiobooks, but I get the text version out of the library and find the page numbers there.

That's a common saying, but I don't think it would count as a catch phrase unless the person who says it says it more than once.

Think "Bazinga" from Sheldon Cooper (Big Bang Theory) or "Jinkies" from Velma (Scooby Doo) or "Live Long and Prosper" from Spock or even "Excellent" from Montgomery Burns (The Simpsons).

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 527 comments I'm guessing that by Stilettos you mean shoes. Can I use stiletto as a dagger?
Or if it has to be shoes, how about high heel?

message 36: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Tea, I am looking for stiletto heels. High heel would work as long as it mentions that it's a high thin heel and not a high wedge or anything of the sort.

message 37: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 527 comments I thought so :(
It was only said that character was wearing very high heels. I'll keep looking. Somebody has to wear stilettos :P
Thanks.

message 38: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Sorry Tea. There's definitely gotta be somebody wearing them in one of your books.

I used a reference to a character wearing a "short skirt and needle heels"

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Book Concierge wrote: "I used a reference to a character wearing a "short skirt and needle heels" "

That totally works. The definition of stiletto heels is a thin, high heel.

Paris, if you say that it has to be heels I'm o.k. with it I just wonder why wouldn't stilettos (daggers) be allowed as long as there're at least two of them? The list says "stilettos" not "stiletto heels".

message 42: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Zuzana that is a great point. Okay, I'll take stiletto dagger as long as it's more than one stiletto dagger.

message 44: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments hahah don't worry about it Zuzana. I'm the same way. In fact, after I said that I was looking for heels, I thought why not the daggers if there was more than one. Thanks for bringing it up so I could change my answer.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 2461 comments QUESTION re: iPad/E-reader

Reading a book written in 1997. The terms iPad and E-reader weren't in common use then. But the book takes place in the future and the characters read on a "ROM tablet" ... sounds like an e-reader to me. What say you?
