Stephanie (stephec) | 12 comments I can’t place what genre this book would fall into, horror maybe… It’s about a family/man and wife who befriend a pregnant stranger. The stranger has the baby and leaves it on the their door step. They decide to keep the child and raise it as their own. The baby is a girl, her name could possibly be Bonnie but i am not 100% certain - I do know that she had blonde ringlets and was super cute. As she grows up the family is plagued with tragedy, their children start to die in unexplained accidents (i.e. falling out of a tree, drowning in a pond…). The father becomes suspicious of the young child and starts to develop a theory that she is the blame for the deaths. When he tells him wife that he thinks that child is responsible she doesn’t believe him. His suspicions end up destroying their marriage and in turn their entire family – exactly as she planned.

This book may have been published in the 70's or 80's again i am not sure. I read it when I was 17 but the book was old even then...
I remember the copy of the book I had was black and it may have had a picture of the girl on the cover but I’m not certain. I would LOVE to know the name of this book as I cannot find it anywhere and have searched the internet for hours looking for any book with a small murderous girl but nothing had come up…

Thanks,
Stephanie

Tressa (moanalisa) | 43 comments You're thinking of The Godsend by Bernard Taylor. It was made into a movie in the late seventies, I believe. I have a 1st edition hardback copy of this spooky book. I can't believe the mother was so stupid not to see what was going on in front of her eyes!

Erica | 47 comments Oh, a great Netflix suggestion! I am also posting to fondly recollect "The Bad Seed" (not an adopted child) one of the first "grown-up" books I ever read. I even drew illustrations for it.
