Kezyuh | 7 comments Hello. My Name is Megan. I was heavily into the YA genre for awhile. Now all the stories seem the same so I am taking a break. But I love reading so I am just jumping around- mostly going off of recommendations or well known books. I am currently reading Don Quixote, which is rather funny and I recommend if you are okay with a lengthy book.
I am obviously new- and you can probably tell that I joined to get more suggestions on books to read.

message 1308: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (soldiergirl) Hey all. I'm Jen, and I'm a bibliophile. (Hi, Jen)
lol. No but seriously. I'm a big fantasy reader and enjoy the challenges on GR. Some years I haven't been as proactive about keeping track, so here's to improving that record this year.

message 1309: by Mary Pat (new)

Mary Pat | 2186 comments Greetings All!

My name is Mary Pat and I am a 60-year-old single mom with a crazy job as an IT Manager for a healthcare practice. I also write and hope to finish several projects this year. (I wanted to mention my writing but also want to stress that it is not my reason for joining the group!) My 18-year-old son graduates from high school in June and heads off to start his own life and I am looking forward to returning to some of my own pursuits.

I tend towards science fiction, fantasy, chick lit and, more recently, memoir but love all kinds of stories. I am fairly tolerant and will try almost any kind of book but if the writing is poor or lackluster, it is likely I will not finish it. I tend to figure out the story line fairly early but great writing, great characters and great creativity will keep me there. I especially love when a writer can surprise me. An author who can keep me guessing and engrossed until the very end is likely to get a five star rating!

In joining this challenge, I hope to average a book a week and to vary the kinds of material I read. I especially hope to work in some classics! And some day I want to read a book a day like my 83-year-old dad! :)

message 1310: by Gabs (new)

Gabs Hello,

I'm Gabs, I'm 20 years old from Bulgaria and I'm in love with books and reading, I've had a Goodreads profile for about an year now, and I finally decided to be more active with it. Also this year I ambitiously embarked on the 50 books challenge despite having a ton of side books connected to my studies to read and getting hooked on Wheel of Time (I managed to sneak some of the books in my challenge but I get the feeling that I'll be reading both the Wheel and all the other books at the same time)
Anyway, I'm always grateful for recommendations and I like being a part of such a wonderful community that is Goodreads ^.^

message 1311: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments Hi :)

I'm 29 years old and love reading. I love studying the Bible, but I also read lots of novels. My taste is quite varied. I get "periods", like fantasy, and then novels, classics and so on:)

I'm not a fast reader though, so I spend some time deciding what to read. 40 books a year average is my guess, but I have so much I want to read so I made my goal 50 books. We will see how it goes :)

message 1312: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Welcome everyone! I look forward to getting to know you all better this year.

This is kind of like a support group for readers, except we only encourage your habit! ;)

message 1313: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments updated my reading challenge to 60 books, I found the challenge from pinterest and it's so amazing! It will keep me reading different kinds of books and books I never get too :)

message 1314: by Robyn (new)

Robyn | 27 comments Hi! I am Robyn. I joined this group last year and had a lot of fun with it. Unfortunately, some medical issues interfered and I couldn't focus on much of anything, even books. That's bad for an avid reader. :-(

Anyway, I am feeling better and hoping for a better 2015. I am looking forward to getting back in the Goodreads game. My favorite genre is historical fiction (heavy on WWII Europe), but I also venture into Contemporary Fiction, Science Fiction, and maybe the occasional Romance.

Happy to be back and looking forward to reconnecting.

message 1321: by Chris (new)

Chris (klevin13) | 62 comments Hello, just found this group and made a challenge topic. I like the idea of it a lot. I'm Chris, a 25 year old in Alaska. I mostly read fantasy I suppose because they tend to be fun to read and fly by pretty fast. I also like classics although I don't get through as many as I tend to spend more time on them than the average book.

message 1322: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments Chris: You live in Alaska? My big dream is to travel to Alaska sometime, if I get to, where should I go?

message 1323: by Chris (new)

Chris (klevin13) | 62 comments Well Anchorage is the "big" city. That's where I live, and the city itself is pretty unremarkable as far as cities go. It's a pretty good hub if you want to do any outdoors stuff though (but why would you ever come here if you didn't?)..tons of hiking, fishing, camping, etc with beautiful scenery literally minutes outside of the city. Rent a car and have an adventure! The further outside of Anchorage the better it gets (until you get to the desolate wasteland that is Fairbanks and beyond).

The southeast (Juneau, Ketchikan) is also really cool but kind of closed off and unaccessible. You pretty much have to fly or take a boat to get there but its seriously the most relaxing place I've ever been too. Just tiny towns on the water and beautiful sites. I'd love to live there if it were possible to find a job.

message 1324: by Dana (new)

Dana (danalibrariana) | 42 comments Hi Chris -

I moved from Anchorage, AK to San Jose, CA two years ago. I'd lived in Anchorage for 11 years. I don't miss the winters (although it looks like you've had a mild one this year) but I do miss the people and the scenery.

Sounds amazing! Someday... When I go I want to stay at a calm place with beautiful scenery if possible and enjoy relaxing and the beauty.

I'm not really the extreme sport type, I just want to see it, to look at the mountains, go for walks and read in a beautiful setting. Maybe a weird dream, but I'm 29 now and I think I have had it since I was probably little, maybe 7/8..

message 1326: by Giorgia (new)

Giorgia Hi I'm Giorgia, I'm 16 and I'm from Italy. I like reading YA books (I really enjoyed the John Green's ones), fantasy (or should I say fantasies?), and in general every book that makes me cry. I'm a fan of the Harry Potter saga and the Hunger Games trilogy. I'm currently reading an Italian book about numbers and maths (Il Museo dei Numeri, Piergiorgio Odifreddi). That's all.
P.S. : please tell me if there are mistakes in this comments and in the others I'll write, I still have to improve my English. Thank you xx

Not a fan of full romance, nonfiction, and books about girls/boys/people on farms or living in little towns attending to their lives.

message 1331: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (8rittany_) Hello :) I'm brittany. I work graveyard shift and find myself bring able to read mostly during that time. It's nice to escape. I have over 400 books in the app that I want to read, a couple I started and didn't finish, some I would like to compare to the movies that were made after them, and some I added to my list based just on the cool looking book cover lol

message 1332: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (8rittany_) Laura wrote: "Hey, everyone! I've joined this group to motivate myself to read more. My boys are in college so you'd think I'd be plowing through books now that I'm not hauling them to baseball games and tennis..."

message 1339: by Barry (new)

Barry Cleary (bcleary22) | 359 comments Today's a good day to read a book!!

Hello everyone! I'm Barry and I have recently had the pleasure of getting back into something that I truly love to do. That would be, of course, reading. I have always loved mysteries, thrillers, horror novels, crime/suspense and some of the old classics, but I just have not had the time to devote to reading the past 4-5 years.

I was able to read 14 books last year, so I set a goal of 20 this year. I am also trying out several new (to me) authors and I have yet to be disappointed.

Some of my favorite authors include: John Sandford, James Patterson, William Kent Krueger, Richard Layman, Bentley Little, Frank Perreti, Randy Alcorn, and Dean Koontz. While these are the staples I often return to, I have gained several new ones of late and I am looking for more.

message 1340: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi im 28 and joined goodreads in december 2014 I have read many book but decided I'm only going to put the books in read shelf as I read them instead of getting feed up trying to remember book I ve read before this way I can keep a record of them. I love to read anything but not a major fan of poems.

message 1341: by Anissa (new)

Anissa Michaud | 287 comments Hi, I am Anissa..28/F/WY. I have been on Goodreads for about a year now but this is my first foray into joining a group. It seems like it will be fun even though I am not the fastest reader. I most like historical romance/fantasy but I am open to expanding my reading horizons. I think the book club I started at work is a step in the right direction but I am open to any suggestions.

message 1342: by Christine (new)

Christine Peterson | 20 comments Hi I am Christine. I have been on Goodreads for 3 years now. I like to read many different genres. I used to be one of those people that could only read 1 book at a time, but now I seem to juggle multiple books depending on what mood I am in and what sounds good to read.

My goal is to read 60 books this year and I am well on my way with 17 read so far. I cannot pick a favorite book, but some of my favorite authors are: Laurell K. Hamilton, Katy Evans, J.R. Ward, Christina Lauren and Stephen King

message 1343: by Chasity (new)

Chasity Hi! I'm Chasity. I have always been an avid reader but honestly I haven't been reading as much as I would like in recent years because of being busy with other interests and college. I'm really looking forward to this year and working on this challenge though I'm still kind of trying to work out how many books I want to challenge myself to read.

I like to read fantasy, historical fiction, and graphic novels particularly though I'm interested in all books with a good story!
