Blagica | 12942 comments welcome Himanshi have you found a book that combines the two?

message 1653: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Meyer (euxxth) | 105 comments hello! I'm Patricia. I live for a good fantasy novel and action. Outlander has made me love historical fictions!

This is my first challenge I've been a part of (being a newbie to GR) and I'm loving it! slightly lost but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it soon.

I love Sci-fi because of Doctor Who but I haven't found a Sci-fi that really speaks to me so if anyone has any book suggestions in any genre, please feel free to reccomend your favourites!

Depends on what you like about sci fi. I like sci fi/dystopia that make me feel and think and where I sit afterward and think "is humans really capable of this?"
If that is your type too, I recommend Never Let Me Go, The Unit and The Long Walk. If you are not so much about feelings maybe some other have better recommendations though:)

Among 89 books Never Let Me Go has made the deepest impression on me this year :)

Welcome ^^

I love sci-f/dystopians! a large portion of the books in my TBR pile are of that genre. I'll definitely look into those novels, Thanks!

message 1658: by Buddy (new)

Buddy (buddy327) | 6 comments Hi all! My name is Buddy. I'm currently reading A Man Called Ove and hoping to finish it this weekend. Looking forward to participating in the 2016 challenges!

message 1659: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello! My name is Monique, I'm 27, I live in Canada and I am currently going through a career change. Not sure whether to be excited or nervous about that but we'll see.

My 2015 reading goal was 60 books but so far I am at 121 books. To be fair though some of those books are short stories or novellas so the number is probably closer to 100.

I will read just about anything but I prefer fantasy, dystopias and some chick-lit. I have recently discovered a passion for romance and graphic novels.

message 1660: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12942 comments welcome Monique way to go on your 121 books! do you have a favorite of what You have read so far?

Blagica wrote: "welcome Monique way to go on your 121 books! do you have a favorite of what You have read so far?"

It's always hard to pick a favorite but I'd say my favorite series from 2015 would be Legacy Code by Autumn Kalquist, The Expanse by James S. A. Corey and the novel Uprooted by Naomi Novik.

message 1662: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12942 comments will have to look into them. since joining this group my lists of books seem to get bigger instead of smaller.

message 1663: by Sam F (new)

Sam F | 1355 comments Hi! I'm Sam F from Canada - I know it's late to join for 2015, but I'd love to try some of your challenges for December and be ready for 2016. I enjoy the challenges in order to read a wide variety of books - things I might not otherwise think to pick up or something recommended. Or they just help me decide what to read on my TBR list/shelves, that is far too long. I'm looking forward to participating. Thanks!

message 1664: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12942 comments Welcome Sam, we have a number of monthly challenges every month two for December and a Group read as well feel free to jump in.

message 1665: by Debra (new)

Debra | 489 comments Hi! I'm Debi. I like to read mysteries and chick lit. I wanted to join this group because the challenges looked fun and I can never decide what to read next...I thought this might help :)

message 1666: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12942 comments welcome Debi, this group is really good about giving recommendations you will have lots of fun, we also have a challenge idea thread if you have a challenge of your own in mind.

message 1667: by Sam F (new)

Sam F | 1355 comments Thanks so much - I love the idea of the Advent challenge. I've been trying to get through a few larger reads - I finally finished Wolf Hall, but I'm still working through the Game of Thrones series. The challenge will definitely inspire!

message 1668: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12942 comments I have the first Game of Thrones read so far they are on my list for next year.

message 1669: by Emily (new)

Emily Elizabeth | 4 comments Helllllllllllllllo all ! My name is Emily and 2015 was my first year to actually work on a reading challenge.

At the end of 2014 my helpful Goodreads app told me I had completed 9 books in the year -- which was shocking to me as I couldn't believe it would be that little, so either I wasn't reading worth a darn or I wasn't keeping track worth a darn.

I committed to being better in 2015, set a goal of 20 books and so far I've hit 35! It helped tremendously that I started listening to books on my commute.

I will post my list on the personal goal page. Just wanted to do the intro.

I want to join a group to see what others are reading and do the group reads.

That's me, yay!

message 1674: by Ornina (last edited Nov 29, 2015 04:49AM) (new)

Ornina | 40 comments Hello. My name is Ornina and I have just joined the group. I like that the deadline for each book is a month and not a week which is more encouraging and achievable for me.
I will join the reading starting Dec 1st. However, I have the habit of reading several books at the same time. Do you guys think that is a good habit, or should I stick to one book at a time?

Welcome! This is a great place to be:) If a group read isn't to your liking you don't have to read it either, but there's a lot of fun stuff here :) I also read more than one, it depends on the reader I think, I can't do else, and some are on different platforms like kindle, hardback, paperback..

What do you like to read?

I love a good read in general. I have an infatuation with the classics and I have made it a mission of mine to read as much classics as possible, so i am digging my way through Jane Austen's full collection.
In addition, I love political books and inspirational/philosophical books.
That is why I read several books at the same time because I just cannot choose.

Nice, maybe we can team up for some classic buddy reads next year? I read many things, but a lot of classics, I'm doing the 1001 books you must read before you die list, so there's a lot of classics there :)

message 1678: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments And you're welcome to join Shirley buddy read in January if you haven't read it and want to ^^

I love reading biographies and memoirs, especially WWII memoirs and history books. My favorite series is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

I have a long list of books I'm reading or want to read and I would really love to make a bigger dent in it.

Blagica | 12942 comments hi to all the new comers this morning! Alison have you read Child 44?

Ornina, what is one of your favorite classics? I tend to lean more towards reading Shakespeare then classics lately not sure why.

Hi! I just joined yesterday and looking forward to...lurking ;-)

I really like to read almost anything, though I do enjoy Nancy Drew and manga. They are completely mindless and escapist reading.

message 1690: by connyx (new)

connyx | 4 comments Well uhm, just joined and wanted to say HELLO.
I'm from europe and a bookworm. But damn, I just have not lots of time to spare to do just that. So I'm very happy if I find the time and strength- yep, I know this sounds odd, to read because that's just like escaping somewhere else.
As for genres I'm reading.. that's not easy to answer because there are a lot. Give me a book, I look at it's cover and read what it's about on it's back and choose to read/buy it or not. At least that's how I usually end up with 5 books after spending some time in a bookshop while not looking for something specific. LOL.

Happy reading everyone!

message 1691: by Dani (new)

Dani | 1 comments Hello! My name is Danielle/Dani and I'm 22 and graduated college in May. I want to keep up my reading outside of school. I am very much a completionist, so I hope these challenges motivate me! I like literary fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, poetry, and some YA to keep me going when everything else is too dense. Looking forward to next year, happy reading!
