Bodhi (insanereads) Hi. I'm new to Goodreads and I am very much looking forward to participating in the 2014 reading challenge. I like a lot of different kinds of books including mystery, horror, romance, and comic books, but right now, I'm trying to make it through my first Jane Austen novel.

mussolet (sovotchka) | 615 comments Welcome everyone and happy readings 2014 :).

@Angelina: That was my plan as well (no self-help, no short stories, and the like), but my standards were slipping over the course of the year. (I also planned to only buy 25 new ones and that went out of the window in March or something.)

message 257: by Chellie (new)

Chellie I'm Chellie, and I'm in my first year at university. I've always enjoyed reading and want to dedicate time to read things that aren't assigned for classes.

message 260: by Erika (new)

Erika (erilynnek) | 34 comments Hello! My name is Erika, and I'm a part-time teacher and librarian, and a full-time mother of four. Since the focus of my job has changed from high school to elementary, I haven't been reading as much YA as I used to, and I miss it. I'm challenging myself to read 50 books this year...I have favorite authors that I like to keep current with, and I sometimes read books they recommend via twitter or their blogs. I also would like to re-read some classics that my son will be reading in his first year of high school next fall, some that I haven't read since I was in high school myself, or some contemporary fiction that made me think so much the first time that my brain hurt (I love that!).

message 261: by Dawnmarie (new)

Dawnmarie | 1 comments Hi everyone! I'm Dawnmarie, a 40 something, home school mom (which means I educate my children at home), avid reader of all genres (except modern horror - love a good Poe-esque tale). I'm not usually a joiner, so this is a stretch for me. Currently reading Eat, Pray, Love... somehow I never got around to it. I minored in English Lit in college.

message 262: by Erica (new)

Erica (ericaomi) | 4 comments Hello I just joined the reading challenge for 2014. My name is Erica and I am an anthropology professor, but love reading fiction.

Tessa!!! Yayyyyy you joined :D Tessa and I met in school and have been friends for a few years now. Lol last night on Facebook I received a hilarious post on my wall about maybe stalking me on goodreads while I was updating and adding a flurry of posts. I invited Tessa to join our group. I'm sooo happy! I've tried to get so many people I know in real life to not just join this group but even join the site and you are the first friend I've managed to lure here mwahaha

message 264: by Emily (new)

Emily Buckner | 9 comments Hi, I'm Emily. I'm new to the group. I'll read just about anything, but my favorite genres are romance and science fiction. I am going to try to read more non-fiction this year.

I am writing a post for 2014 reading challenges and started poking around the internet to see what was happening. I never knew Goodreads had this group and am going to share my reading challenges and this group with my blog visitors.

My tastes are all over the place. I love literary fiction, but also graphic novels, dystopian, and some nonfiction.

message 271: by Reija (last edited Jan 01, 2014 01:15AM) (new)

Reija | 307 comments Hi, I'm Reija. I was bookworm as kid but somewhere in teen years I kind of lost interest. I found reading challenge (50 books in year) in my favorite forum then and since that year I have read, more and more each year. I have tried to find some inspirating group, and yours challenges sounded the best!

I like magical, that something you know, in books and/or shortstories, but checking my books, looks like those are rare, maybe because I like to pick books by cover or title and you never know what to get.. I don't mind crime or death nor romance too much tough. I hope to find here some lovely books I have never heard before.

message 272: by Luna (new)

Luna | 15 comments Hi, im Susy and i have always been a big fan of reading. Here i know that i'll keep all my books on record and want to read more. I pretty much like to read any kind of book. So.any suggestions from anyone would be great. This year im going for at least 2 books each week.

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments Welcome everyone! I hope you enjoy our group. Take a look around: try some challenges out, join some buddy reads and have fun! I look forward to discussing books with you.

message 283: by Julie (new)

Julie Montgomery (montgomerycaskey) I'm Julie, from Los Angeles in the US. I've been trying to read through all the introductions but I may have to count the task as one book read LOL. I stopped reading years ago when I fell in love; for the first half of my life, books were my escape from my unhappiness. I think I was afraid if I kept reading I would avoid real life, so I stopped. I bought myself a tablet a month ago and have read several books already, and I am finding that reading is actually enriching the real world and my relationships (go figure!). I love YA dystopian stories and southern lit. Excited to get to know new people. :-)

message 284: by Terri (new)

Terri (chadswifey) | 5 comments Hi! I'm Terri, from a small town in southern West Virginia. I'm 33. I've been married for almost 12 years. No children, just a 5 month old Beagle.

I take moods where all I do is read and the out of the blue I stop. I have a wish list of over 500 books and a full Kindle of unread books. I have so many that I can't download all my purchased books to my Kindle!

I read just about everything I can get my hands on. I do tend to lean towards YA and historical romance. The only genre that I usually steer clear of is horror. I tried reading Stephen King's IT and PET SEMETARY and freaked myself out so bad with each that I didn't sleep for days. Granted, that was many, many years ago, but I haven't tried again!

Excited to be a part of this challenge group and get to know you all!

message 285: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi I've just joined and I hope I haven't set myself an unrealistic target but I do read an awful lot, because of pain I'm unable to do much, I read all genres except Horror and GLBT and I usually manage a book a day but I've started to get too involved in social media and there are so many good books out there that I find out through blogs it's hard to stop.

message 286: by Brian (new)

Brian (brianfinn) | 638 comments Welcome everyone!!! Please hop into any challenge or discussion you want and happy 2014! May you all read the best books you can find.

message 287: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Long time member of Goodreads, first time joiner of this group. My goal is less about quantity and more about exposing myself to a wider variety of books (though I wouldn't mind trying to hit 30 books this year).

Neelima | 2 comments Hi, i am neel from new jersey. I used to be an avid reader but the last couple of years have been so busy with life, that i dont get a chance to read much. I am joining this group hoping to get back to enjoying books again.

Jackie - Fire & Ice Book Reviews (jackiefireicebookreviews) Hi Patty, welcome to the group, and good luck on your challenge!

message 293: by Brian (new)

Brian (brianfinn) | 638 comments Welcome Ashley, Neelima, Stefanie, and Patty! We will be sending welcome messages to all of our new members soon with more helpful information about the group and the various activities in which you can participate.

I actually just sent a request to Goodreads to try and work out some kinks that will hopefully be resolved soon. We have been gaining so many members that our Welcome Committee cannot send enough messages without reaching a maximum daily limit for messages! :/ Please bear with us, enjoy, and ask here if you have any questions. Again, welcome!

message 297: by Mary (new)

Mary Kate | 4 comments Hi everyone! I'm Mary Kate. I am new to Goodreads, but am excited to start! I read quite a lot, and the genres are pretty varied - currently I am on a murder mystery kick again, but I also love the classics, fantasy, science fiction, regular fiction and comedy books. When it's cold outside, I like to snuggle in with a Jane Austen, when my mood is down I read some Wodehouse to pick me up, and when I want to exercise my brain a little I like to delve into Lincoln's biography or Teddy Roosevelt's, just to see what great things they were up to. I love the challenges - something to give my reading some focus! I look forward to them.

Kim Lobdell | 8 comments Hi, I'm Kim. I have 3 girls who all love to read. I read everything and will try any book whose cover catches my eye. I have discovered many great books at the $1 store. My dream is to have a library of books like the one in Beauty & the Beast. My husband says if we ever move; I have to leave all the books because there are too many to move. My goal this year is 50 books - a challenge I have also given to my girls.
