Jean (otakumom) I love this series so far. It really does an excellent job of capturing the disparity of attitudes of the public versus the military and even the infighting within the various factions within the military. I also love how the individual recruits must deal with their own moral dilemma of personal security versus a better future which may result in your death and that better future is a gamble to begin with.

Mikasa and Armin are my favorites but if I had to pick one. It's Armin. I'm not sure if he's fleshed out in volume 1. Like Yasemin, I'm also all caught up with the series.

All I can say is that this series shares a lot of parallels I found in Battlestar Galactica (the remade series).

I will also say that the manga and the anime, paired together seem to have a synergistic effect. At times, I know some people didn't think much of the manga's first volume or the anime (especially after all the hype) but I think they work well together. Plus, there is so much internal dialogue which if it is not your cup of tea, it might be off-putting.

Jean (otakumom) I love the dialogue because it give you a sense of how no one really knows anything. There is far more uncertainty involved all around. It's all a gamble and the consequences and its responsibilities rest with making those decisions. It does interrupt the flow of the action and I'm not sure if there's a more elegant way to do it. But I do love it all the same.

Atm (aryes) | 21 comments This series was interesting when i read it. It had gore, it had charisma, it had plot, it had a backstory, and it had women in it who were not damsel in distress. I especially loved that there were many twist and turns that surprised me. I usually hate gore, but i read this manga, before the hype happened. I admit it was good, and then i was on OtakuUsa.com, i realized that what i was reading was getting popular, fast! Wow, i congragulate the author and/or mangaka on their success!

Amy (amykate28) | 39 comments I really enjoyed this and I'm really looking forward to continuing the story. It's actually been awhile since I've liked a manga or dystopian this much. There's so many of both around that it's hard to find ones that stand out but this is one, for both categories.

The characters are all brilliant and realistic, although I did find the number of introduced characters in one volume overwhelming. I don't feel like I've really connected to any yet because there are just so many of them, whereas mangas like FMA introduced their characters at a slower pace which allows an emotional connection to develop better and for story progression to happen at a better pace because you aren't trying to keep up with too many people at once.

The world is interesting and I can't wait to find out more about it and see more of it. There are plenty of questions I already want answered just from the first volume the main ones being:

Is this settlement really the last of human civilisation? Or do they just not know of others because they can't travel far because of the Titans?

What are the Titans and where have they come from?

I can't wait to see where this story and world goes and this is definitely a case where I want to check out the anime as well.

Grace (fives) | 33 comments I watched some of anime (And I got a few big spoilers from my sister) before I read the manga, so I kind of knew what was going to happen. But, I have to say a lot was shoved into the first volume, so if I had not seen some of the anime then I would probably be confused.

I really hate to say this but...
The art is awful.

I really want to read the second volume to see if it's very different from the anime.

My favorite character would have to be... Eren.
Out of all the characters, it would be Eren. (Because I really don't remember any of the character besides Eren, Mikasa (I call Mikase My House, because her name sounds like the Spanish word mi casa which means My House!) and Armin.)

I kind of know what will happen, so I'll skip that question.

I do think that human race has a fighting chance because like everyone is really a (view spoiler)

Jennifer (The Nightly Book Owl) (misscupoftea) | 6 comments Hey everyone! So I finally was able to get a copy of this book! (I know... so late) But anyway, I posted my review on thoughts on it in my booktube channel since I know this discussion was a couple of months ago! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgJBnX...

KWinks (icameheretoread) | 60 comments I wasn't able to get a copy of this until November because the waiting list for this title was crazy! Anyway, I read it and really enjoyed it. I just started an Anime Club at my library and the kids are CRAZY for this series. So glad I had read it and knew what they were talking about. They are also obsessed with Sword Art Online.
