Children of Morrow by H M Hoover? Sequel: Treasures of Morrow.Doesn't sound like the Obernewtyn chronicles by Isobelle Carmody.

Thanks for those suggestions BKL. I took a look at all of them and I think it might well be Children of Morrow,one of the characters is called Rabbit which seems to ring a bell.Oddly enough, I remember very little else about the book, I wonder if perhaps its was an extract in an exam or something. Oh well.
Just bought a copy of it from Amazon for the princely sum of 1 pence! (plus postage of course)
Awesome, I'm glad you found it. I read a book in school about kids with telepathic abilities and it was The chrysalids by John Wyndham..but looks like you already found the book! Great!
You know what Sarah, it WAS the chrysalids! I even recognise the title and having read the wiki entry on it, it is defo that book. Although the children of morrow did seem close. Oh we'll, I will have two books to read!Thanks for mentioning the Chrysalids!

It would have been sometime between 94 and 99, sorry for the sizeable window.
What I remember about the book, it was about a group of children who lived in a farming area and all had telepathic powers. Their abilities and people with those abilities were not allowed to be part of society. The children ended up either escaping or trying to escape over a nearby border before they were caught.
That is pretty much all I can remember about it. I found a thread from a couple years ago looking for a sort of similar book but it involved the children having been kidnapped or held against their will this did not.
Hope someone can help as I have been racking my brains about this one for a while.
