Jeff Horton | 30 comments Hello Everyone.

Like most writers, I occasionally receive a negative review on one of my works. Sometimes I can see that the reviewer has some legitimate points, while at other times a review strikes me as being full of hatred, loathing, and is unnecessarily combative. The latter I most often tend to attribute to persecution tied directly to the Christian undertone prevalent in my writing.

I hope that when you give anyone a review, you will try to be fair and objective, and not lash out against the author because of his or her religious beliefs; it does both the author and the reviewer a disservice to do so.

If you are a Christian, PLEASE support Christian authors, filmmakers, and other such artists. We may be a thick-skinned lot, but we really need your support.

Thanks, and have a blessed weekend...

JWH

Stacy S. (Skye35) | 8 comments What gets me is that some people know they don't believe the way we do. Yet, I have seen them seek out Christian books just to bash them. Not only that, but they make a point to troll Christian discussions to do the same. But, if a Christian decides to go to a non believer's page, they don't think that's fair and they should leave.
So much for freedom of speech.
So far, my Christian book hasn't gotten hatred.

message 3: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle To be fair:
I do that to atheists, Muslims, Mormons, J.W.'s, Cults, Charismatics, etc.

If someone's work is truthful. Then it's worth it. But don't expect the world to applaud you. Even the Bible gets endlessly abused - but it's still standing strong. :D

message 4: by Stacy (new)

Stacy S. (Skye35) | 8 comments I never seek out atheist's books. My opinion would already be biased because I believe in God. So, I don't see a point in reading something I don't believe in.
I'm not religious. Jesus was always ticking off the religious(Pharisee) people. Jesus isn't religious and neither am I. But, I don't judge others based on their denomination.
The Bible will continue to be bashed until the end of time. But, it will always win.

Merrillee Whren (merrilleewhren) | 7 comments How do you know the belief system of the author unless the book is specifically labeled Christian?

message 6: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle I find serious theological flaws in many authors who label themselves Christian.

Trust no-one. Compare everything to the Bible.

message 7: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle Stacy it's very useful to read a few things by people who believe different than us. Surprisingly: most of Christianity believe's differently than the actual Bible.

Here's an easy test: Ask people what they think of Homosexuality, Catholicism, World religions, Hell, Sin, And that Heaven is about Jesus and not so much US. You'll get some nasty answers...

message 8: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle Zhang (up above) is a good test subject:

How do we know for sure Zhang is really a Christian? Anyone?

Send for his book. It's free.

message 10: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle That is a good start Merrillee.

Do you recommend the same for Benny Hinn, Muhammad, Sun Myung Moon, Joseph Smith, Deepak Chopra...Satan?

You're dealing with bigots, Stacy. A bigot is someone with contempt and intolerance for those with opposing viewpoints, and it is a sign of the times, politically. Impossible to say what the true motive is; my guess is that it's a personal grudge against some Christian. And this is their way of lashing out. It's disappointing, specially in the land of the free. But as author Jeff posted above, Christians need to wake up and start pushing back. We're being marginalized.

message 12: by Merrillee (new)

Merrillee Whren (merrilleewhren) | 7 comments If I know ahead of time that the author isn't Christian, why would I send for their book. You asked if this person is Christian. If you can't determine it ahead of time, you could by reading the book. Since it's free, you aren't supporting the author with your money. You may find a Christian author. I was only answering your question. You don't have to get the book if you don't want it.

message 13: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle Actually I agree with you Merrillee. I was just curious if you had any deeper thoughts on the issue. :D

Lately i've been reading lots of resources from false religions. Very enlightening. Seeing how things contradict and twist the Word of God is one of my passions.

message 14: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle My favorite technique for buying used Christian books (or NEW ones) is looking at who reviews and supports the authors work. This tells us a great deal about the trustworthiness of the Author and his content.

If you see a book with scholastic support from MacArthur, Sproul, Swindol, Geisler, Rhodes, and Joni Eareckson-Tada you KNOW what you are getting into.

On the same note: if your purchase is told to be Holy Spirit annointed by benny hinn, Todd Bentley, Joel Osteen, Rob Bell, or Tammy Faye Bakker then you have to be just a little skeptical in the theological truth department.(Or buy it for some comedic light reading.)

Merrillee Whren (merrilleewhren) | 7 comments I wish I could remember who said it, but I heard a quote from someone who basically said that none of us has all the correct answers on what the Bible teaches. I think that's a good thought to have in mind when we are reading books that talk about the Bible or theology.

Merrillee, The problem is that I HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS. But, then, that's just me! LOL! Love your work, girlfriend! Harriet

Reader58 | 1 comments As this forum is dealing with supporting Christian authors, I am currently reading a book titled The Monsters Within by Corvus Winchester. It is obvious that his Christian beliefs are a strong influence in his works and I just love this book. It's a little short, but it kind of reminds me of Frank Peretti's earlier works. Check it out!

Billie Turknett (billieturknett) | 2 comments I support all things Christian but, I do my homework first. I look up reviews, discussion groups, blogs, etc... until I find the information I need to know and then I'll decide if I am going to purchase it and if I get it and it is not biblical then I'll lay it down and not share it with friends or family. Why would I promote something that isn't biblical?
Thanks Jeff. It's a great topic.

message 24: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle Good comment Billie.

Yes, many things that claim to be Christian ARE NOT. And yet the world is overflowing with gullible folks who call themselves Christian. It's very sad. (They are usually too lazy to see what God had to say about the issue. That is what the Bible is for.)

Many just want to join the country club. Yet they refuse to get out their Golf Clubs.

If a nation went to war and destroyed all enemy nations and the conquering nation was left with only friendly nations, due to the existence of invisible evil forces, some of the friendly nations would become enemies and the conquering nation would be back where it started from before the war (see Obadiah 1:7).
